Another AIM RP log from Mouche and Death! Chandra hated days without a breeze. She just hated them. The world seemed to stop working properly, and it got so nasty and humid. She'd been lounging in the shade all day, too tired to hunt or be active, but it wasn't working- she was still hot and grumpy. It seemed like going for a swim was the best bet for cooling off, but the water was so muddy. Growling, she prowled irritatedly until she found a patch of water that was relatively clear. It was actually sort of pretty, for lovely water plants liberally covered its surface. A note of warning chimed in her head, though, for growing up, she'd often been cautioned to stay away from places like this, where she couldn't see well under the water. Gavials, the long-snouted predators, often lurked in such places, and a hungry gavial would love to make a fine meal out of a little lion cub. However, she was a grown lioness now, and well-equipped to handle any stupid reptile that would dare to snap at her. Shaking her head, she ignored her mother's words of warning. She was parched and overheated, and the water here wasn't muddy, just covered with plants. Looking warily behind and around her, for she feared an ambush by a rival female far more than a gavial, she daintily entered the water. She made a face as her fur stuck to her body. She wasn't in this river by choice; really, she wasn't terribly fond of swimming. But it was very, very hot, and shade just wasn't cutting it. So, slightly less grouchy than before, she kicked away from shore and started paddling in slow circles. It beat panting to death.

Ares was out and about on this hot day looking for Chandra, he wanted to thank her for all of her help she had offered for his only daughter Circe. His bright blue eyes scanned the lands in attempt for the light colored femme that seemed to be pulling at his vile, strong and warrior heart strings. If he had one that is, it was notible that he did take care of Circe very well, so it was plausible. He moved with a gracelike perfection yet still came off as masculine and deadly. It was perfected, he was a perfect preadator to all those he deemed prey. He moved with a quicker pace as he scented water in this unbearable heat but not only water but the sweet, sweet scent of female. He could only guess it was Chandra because it was familiar.

The water was, despite how wet it was, very comfortable, Chandra had to admit. She kept her head above the water to watch for any approaching kinsmen. She could see the silhouette of a male in the distance, and she squinted as he approached, attempting to see who it was. Although his pelt's individual markings were still unclear, she smiled widely. She knew who this was."Ares!" she called. It had to be him, she'd recognize that well-toned physique and powerful stride anywhere. Perhaps she could have some company and flirt with him a bit, even though it was hard to look lovely when one was soaked. Something hard brushed her back paw, but she ignored it. Silly turtle. Maybe she could catch it and they could share it as a snack.

Ares smirked as she called out to him, "Good afternoon," he moved closer but he was still a few yards away. He took longer strides not wanting to seem too eager, yet happy to see her. He didn't want to come off desperate, after all what da'lin lioness wouldn't want him. He would have to keep her on her toes until he was sure she was his, and if it came to that, he wouldn't listen to anything else. He would rip apart anyone who tried to touch her, actually now that he was contemplating it. He would probably do that now, ever since there first meeting he could feel something that wasn't like the rest of the females had met. Perhaps lust, powert, and significance...he could only hope for the best.

So he wasn't repulsed by the nastiness of her wet appearance, or perhaps he couldn't quite see her yet. Chandra liked to think it was the former. It would mean that he wasn't just after a pretty face, but that he actually admired her mind as well as her body. She'd worked too long to cultivate her intelligence for it to be ignored... by anybody. There was that hard thing again... Stupid turtle! Snarling mentally, she called out again. "It's awfully hot, no? Why don't you join me? Come in the water; there's a turtle right near my paws. I'll bring it up and we can have it for a snack!" Airily, she dove under the water, taking a deep breath. It was much murkier than she'd thought it would be, and she had to keep her eyes clenched shut, for grains of sediment were getting under her lids and smarting. She felt around blindly for the shelled reptile that had been bothering her... only to feel sharp teeth snap tight on her paw. She roared with pain, but, being underwater, no sound was heard above. Kicking and lashing out with her free paw, she struggled to the surface, wrestling with the gavial the entire way up. After what seemed like an eternity of pain, her head finally broke the surface. The damn crocodilian just wouldn't let go, and with its long snout, it was able to keep its vital parts well away from Chandra's teeth. She kicked at its armored belly with her back paws, but it was doggedly tenacious and kept hanging on, intent on a meal. She knew that her paw would be mangled, but that wasn't her current concern. All that was really on her mind was survival.

Ares watched as she didn't come up he saw the bubbles. He saw the crimson start to paint the crystal clear, yet blue waters and snarled as he saw the gavial. He made his way into the waters and opened his jaws wide against the bottom of the gavials neck, it was softer scales easy penetration. He could taste the blood and it made him thirsty, his eyes grew in rage as he tasted more and more, hearing Chandra's own roaring and cries out for her paw. He snarled once more gripping the thing, but as it thrashed the water made him slip but he chewed and advanced forward on the lizard. Unknowing how to help the female anymore, he could only hold on for the ride.

As Chandra battled the beast, she heard the roars of another lion and felt a heavy weight land on the crocodilian. Ares. Great. This had to happen in front of him. The one lion she didn't want to see her at her weakest... She smelled blood and it wasn't her own; it was her attacker's. Ares had been able to find some purchase, and the creature was dying, she could tell. She was only dimly aware that he was saving her life, and certainly her paw. With him holding the beast down, she managed to bring her jaws down on its narrow snout. Clenching down, she let her anger and pain and humiliation flow into the bite. It was no surprise when she heard the creature's jaw break with a horrifying crunch. Painfully, she wrenched her paw free. It was a bloody mass of pain, but surprisingly not too flayed- just many puncture wounds. With time and help, she could heal this and, most likely, not suffer any permanent damage other than scars and a slight limp. She'd just have to tuck it under her body when she wasn't using it. She almost wished she hadn't been able to- living with such humiliation would be more difficult than dying. Whimpering, she licked her paw as the pain bit into her vision. The gavial was a dead creature; she felt like she was on the way. She needed to get to shore and fast, before the scent of blood attracted more of the bloodthirsty reptiles. Fighting back the urge to scream, she tried to paddle to shore.

Ares dropped the carcass and went to Chandra staying by her side adamently as they made it to the shoreline on to real ground. He looked at her paw which was ina bloody mess, but it didn't seem as mangled as he thought it might've been. His ears were laid back on his head, unknowing what to do besides stand by her and protect her from anything else that came there way. He decided to question, "Do you want to go back to my place after you rest a bit?" he rose a brow curiously. He wouldn't allow her to be by herself while she healed. It was dangerous for a lone lioness, even for a da'lin that was injured. He wasn't thinking she was weak or anythingjust a bit foolish after going something she didn't know really what it was. Poor girl, she'd learn from it though. That was the important part.

She couldn't show weakness. Not in front of him, and certainly not in front of Circe. What would the little female think if the lioness who was setting herself up as her role model think if she saw her like this? Nothing good, to be certain. Gritting her teeth and pinning her ears back, she managed to scrub up the last of her tact. "N-no, th-thanks... I need to get back t-to my den... herbs there... need for healing... Ai!" she said as she attempted to put a little pressure on the paw. She knew she'd never make it all the way back to the cave she stored her herbs in by herself. Looking up at Ares with teary eyes, she conceded to her injury. "T-take me home... p-please?"

Ares watched her and nodded looking at her, it would be faster if she was on his back but he didn't want to let her loose all of her dignity and he was sure she'd disprove. If she became to much of a hassle then he might do it anyways, despite her voice upon it. He gazed at her carefully and bowed his hed again, "Which way?" he inquired with a monotone voice before peering up to the skies. He could leave Circe for the day but not the night. That would be unforgiveable and not good on anyones part. But he would see Chandra home safely.

"E-east," she squeaked out as she attempted to balance on three paws. "D-dead e-east... it's the sh-shallow cave with th' big dead tree in front... skull in th'branches... bird." Now that the pressure was off her paw, she could focus on stumbling along. It was nice, she had to admit, to have Ares along for help. If any female saw them together, it would show that even while wounded, Chandra could still interest a male, especially if they were headed back to her den together. And no male would dare to attack her, not with Ares around. "Not t'far from here. Then y-you can leave... take care of Circe." A whimper ran through her voice, and she willed it down as best as she could. This weakness was appalling, but she still needed to say something. "Thank you," she whispered.

He nodded, the directions were not too hard to follow and there were easy landmarkers in case he sort of got lost, though he doubted this was possible with Chandra with him. He walked near her just in case she need to lean on him at some points, he was her rock he had decided. Whether she liked it or not she was his and he wouldnt hear a word otherwise. He would make it known of course but in his mind she was only his. He smiled to himself at the thought. "No need to worry of Circe, she will be alright." He nosed her cheek gently. "You were quite the fighter out there," he smirked while looking a head. He was trying to cheer her up rather than bring her down. Getting low on yourself was never fun.

"I was an idiot. I knew the danger, and yet I still went in. I... don't want to think about what would have happened had a real fighter not shown up..." She paused as the realization of her situation hit her. She would have been dead had he not showed up. Dead. Gone. No more. Chandra loved life. She loved manipulating males and destroying the egos of females. She loved basking in the sun on days when it wasn't sweltering, and she loved curling up in a cave at night. The thought that it all could have ended in a snap of some stupid reptile's jaws chilled her to the bone, and her resolution steeled. She was a verbal fighter, not a physical one, and she needed to understand this. Willing herself to ignore the pain, she pressed on, not saying anything else. When they reached the mouth of her cave, she quickly sat down, taking all pressure off her mangled paw. "I...er, I might need help... could you stay a little while? Just long enough to help me get a few herbs down off the higher formations..." The inside of Chandra's den was a high, dry cave with several flat protrusions of rock sticking out. A lion on their back legs using one paw to support themselves against the wall could easily put things up there, which is what she did to store her herbs. But with her paw, she knew she'd have a hard time getting things down. She could do it, but his help- and presence- would be most welcome.

He shrugged, "Lions make mistakes, its your ability to recover and learn from them that makes a Da'lin stronger than Zahina. I've noticed Zahinas do repetitive nature, which astounds me, if something does not work the first time why try another?" he inquired to her as he shook his head. He didn't think Chandra would ever really be dead, he hadn't a clue what sort of thoughts were rummaging around in her head, perhaps he didn't want to know. Maybe he did. He was quite reserved sometimes, "Er, sure," he replied. "Do you need me to get something from one of those ledges?" he questioned again as he rubbed past her in the cave flickering his tail on her side, a very possesive and dominant move. His ears flickered as he looked at her, "Well?"

"You're better to me than I deserve, Ares. You know that?" Chandra forced a smile as her paw throbbed. She'd picked a winner, that was for sure. "See that one with the dried herbs with the little red flowers? The one three back from the front entrance? If you could bring that whole bundle down, there's one in there that'll numb this up and one that will clean the wound and heal it some... I used the second plant on you once..." Gritting her teeth, she rose to her paws and moved to the far side of the cave, where a small spring bubbled. It came from deep within the earth and was very cold; perfect for cleaning wounds, though it wasn't quite enough to be a steady source of water. She wondered why on earth she hadn't stayed in her cave today, but shook those thoughts from her mind. What was done was done; now it was time to fix her mistake.
