So I've been reading Tarot since I was about 12 years old. My grandmother taught me the basics, and the rest was self-taught. Her great aunt read tea leaves for a living back in the late 1800's, and I even have the cup she did it in. ^_^

I had a discussion with a friend a while back about the validity of Tarot. I don't believe you need to be psychic to use them properly and effectively. I don't claim to be psychic in any way, shape or form. I see Tarot as a sort of "third eye on the world". It lets you see your situation from an outside point of view and really let you think about your options or the path you've chosen. I've read for friends for years, and have had to actually cut some people off because they were running their lives by my cards.

Does anyone else read Tarot? Do your friends become dependent on what you tell them? Do you believe in them as a psychic look at life, or otherwise?

i read! not very often, and i'm not very good yet.
i fully agree with you on that a tarot deck is used to make you look at your situation from a different perspective.

i have three decks.
Osho Zen - that use to belong to my husband. he used it while he was at college and it picked up alot of angst and stuff. when he met me he stopped using it and it sat on a shelf for a year. i was organizing some stuff and picked it up, and it bit me. i put it back where it was and my hand started tingling. and not a very pleasant tingling. told my hubby about it later on and he said that he doesn't use it anymore and i could have it. went back up to it and poked it a few times and picked it up and set it down a few times...but it didn't seem to object this time. so i've been using it ever since. it's my public deck.

Joseph Vargo's Gothic Tarot - my private deck. i don't let anyone touch it.

i also have Jessica Galbreath's Enchanted Oracle.

I used to practice (I'm not really that good at it) but lately my deck has been collecting dust, but I've thought about getting back into it, but I simply don't have the time or patience and anything worth doing is worth doing right, wouldn't you say?

That's very true.

I have two decks. The Rider-Waite and the Arthurian Legend deck. I only read with the Rider-Waite, I bought the Arthurian Legend because it was too beautiful to pass up. ^_^

I read Tarot on occasion, and have gotten some really accurate results, which is kind of creepy. My girlfriend is so much better at it than me, as her readings are always accurate.

I've always been , how do i say it, (loss of terms) keen to knowing things, not psychic, but similar. I started reading tarot about 7 years now, and my cards are always accurate for myself, friends, acquiantences. Whether they say their question out loud, or have a question at all, if they are lying to themselves about a situation that only themselves know about, I'll find it or hint toward it without any prior knowledge, and its amazed some people. I'm always asked for readings, and by people who have just learned that i do tarot from my friends high confidence in my ability. I think because i'm an empath that my ability with that heightens while reading tarot, because I know that i'm extremely sensitive to others. I know sometimes what they are thinking before they do, but its not esp, i get waves of feelings from people and that forms words in my head and the next thing i know the person is talking about it and i didn't pry. And is works through my cards even better when someone is being deiceitful. I scare people sometimes and have turned many a skeptic to a believer. i love it.

I'm usually pretty accurate too. I've never been completely wrong, sometimes the details get a little sketchy, but on the whole I get it right. Most of the time my friends don't have specific questions in mind so I do what I call a "How's my cosmos?" reading. I use the World card as a significator, then do a five card spread, with each card representing, (from left to right) far past, recent past, present, near future, and far future. It usually ends up pretty accurately.

Honestly, my learning in tarot is a culmination of several different books, including the 'quicky tarot' deck I started off with. Oddly enough, this set up works really well. It's just four cards in a line....

1 2 3 4

1. Current situation/task at hand
2. Past influences
3. Present direction
4. Possible outcome

Simple, but really effective. My boyfriend has recently begun reading Tarot as well. ^^

I have the Celtic Dragon deck, which was always my favorite and one I use for 'public' or acquaintance readings.

My boyfriend had commandeered my unicorn deck, which he's been using for me and his friends.

Last but not least is my Alice in Wonderland deck, which I reserve for family and close friends. Mostly because it's harder to read because they use different terminology (Oysters, Peppermills, Hats and...oh, the last suit just slipped my mind! rather than Pentacles, Staves, Cups and Swords, respectively).

It's not stupid. It's advanced!

It takes a lot of time and patience.

I have two decks; I've been on-and-off teaching myself in between school work and my writing and such. Divination has always fascinated me and I just love the mystery and such of the tarot.

Well Tarot doesn't connect with everybody. If you want to try divination but Tarot doesn;t work for you, there are plenty of other methods out there. I-Ching and Norse Runes are two popular ones. Just avoid any Rune books by Ralph Bloom

I also have been learning on and off for a few years now, but I've been to busy recently to actually set time aside for it.
Also I very rarely get an actual "me time", through a culmination of my sister, boyfriend, niece and parents always being in.
I find it very hard to concentrate on something so meaningful if there are people around, even my boyfriend who is trying to be more open with my beliefs and practices.
