I'm sure that at least some of you have read Nabokov's Lolita, but has anyone read Ada, or Ardor? The reason I ask is because in it, Nabokov makes a reference to Lolita, but in the form of a skirt. He uses the word "lolita" as a noun referring to the type of skirt worn by Ada, the main character. I thought this might be of interest to us, seeing as we love lolita fashion (the skirt he described was long, black with red accents, and frilly, if I remember correctly). Has this term been used by others in reference to clothes before this fashion started?
Oh, and if anyone is interested in reading Ada, or Ardor, I would highly recommend it. Like Lolita, its topic (incestuous love) is controversial, but it's a very good book nonetheless. 3nodding

Oo~ I loved Lolita. I have Ada, or Ador on my bookshelf along with the other Nabokov books I want to start reading. If any Nabokov fans here haven't read Despair, I highly recommend that one, too. heart Adokenai Hitomi I've read Lolita. it's pretty interesting; you don't know if Dolores is the seductress or the seductee. heart I love the way you put that! XD

Bunna Like Lolita, its topic (incestuous love) is controversial... 3nodding Thanks for the recommendations, everybody.. But isn't the topic of Lolita more to do with ******, less to do with incest? Humbert Humbert wasn't bothered about incest, neither was Dolores, and it was only quite mild because they weren't related (you might say, 'it's either incest or it's not,' but to me there's a difference).

I think she was the seductress overall, because she basically had Humbert around her finger after her mother got killed.
xD I loved the part after they had sex for the first time; he was so disappointed that he wasn't her first!

O-o Stuff like that fascinates me...I'm not into that stuff at all (which people seem to think and see me as a pervert for...? o-o;;; ) but it's just so interesting...I love controversial things like that. >w< I doubt my mom would buy me that one though. o-o; About how much do you think a good paper back of it would cost?

aside from the fact that i love and own Vladimir Narbovo's "lolita"; i do think she is the seductress over all. also has anyone seen "leon the professional"? it stars natalie portman and jean reno (also see "wasabi" if you like him and japan stuff). i for one love it to death it is very lolita-esque. personally if i had to recast stanly kubrick's version natalie portman would have been it....had she been alive and that age of course.
