 Guardian Odelia A large field of tall grass and few trees, this is a place made for both frolicking and hunting. The occasional junked car or decaying house interrupts the sea of grass and makes for a fun (albeit rather unsafe) hide away for fawns to play, and the lake to the west is a great place for fishing or swimming.
"There's nothing of interest to me here. I'm going back to the Delta." Appalled at the lack of moisture in the Plains, Xiphi started toward her home land with her typical confident gait.

Lucio stormed through the grass of the plains, hooves heavy and head held low. He originally came to to be alone with his thoughts, but as it turns out, thinking too hard just made him angry. Now in a foul mood, Lucio considered wandering the plains some more to look for a tree to carve up. Not like I'll be able to find a lot of trees here, though. Maybe I can just find Zeta and carve him up...
At that, Lucio brightened a little, a small smirk gracing his face. He continued his thoughts, his steps no longer so heavy. And after Zeta, I'll get the annoying little goody-goody! I'd like to see him stop me then~ He held his head up now, laughing. And then I'd carve up the stupid fairy, right in front of his sister. Of course, after that I'd rip her tongue out so I'd never have to hear her stupid way of talking ever again...
Now practically prancing, Lucio hummed merrily to himself, still thinking of his vile deeds. In fact, I'll take down anyone that tries to stop me! Even-
Lucio stopped abruptly when he saw someone else was in the plains. Frozen a little ways a way, he stared, then realized it was just Xiphi. He titled his head, thinking for a moment.
...I'd spare her. He cackled to himself, then pranced over to her, his previous bad mood completely forgotten.

The gray doe held her head low, scanning the earth for something edible as she walked. An odd hum caught her attention, and her ears perked. Xiphi spotted Lucio, eyes twinkling with slight recognition.
"Oh, it's..." thoughts and memories rattled in her mind for a name, but the search went in vain. "... you." She flicked her ears and rose her head as Lucio pranced towards her.
"What a pleasant surprise." As usual, her voice hinted dry sarcasm. She stepped forward carefully, as if Lucio's presence was appealing. The long tuft of fur on her tail swooshed across the arid ground as she spoke, "Carved up many victims lately?" A sly grin crept across her face as she paused for his response. An itch on the back of her mind pestered her concentration.
...What's his name!?

Apparently oblivious to the suspicious pause and sarcasm, Lucio straightened up, ears pricked and chest puffed out like a show dog. He looked down his nose at Xiphi, smirking, his visor tinting her red. "Yep. In the flesh. Scarred flesh, but flesh all the same."
Lucio liked to brag about his scars, but in his thinking session not too long ago, he realized perhaps having numerous scars wasn't something to be proud of. After all, didn't it only prove he was reckless and not too great and dodging? The thought of Zeta's flawless hide infuriated him, and his cocky facade faltered.
Lucio's eyes darted away for a moment, and his voice was less self-assured. "Oh, yeah, yeah. Plenty. In fact, just yesterday I roughed Zeta up a bit. Don't like him being around my sister, you know."

Distracted by the nagging thought in her mind, it took a while for Xiphi to react. Once she noticed the awkward pause she straightened up and pretended to have been pondering. "Hmm, yes. That Zeta again..."
She turned her head to the west, spying the glittering lake in the distance. Practically dying for some moisture, she faced Lucio again and said, "I'm parched. Care to walk with me for a drink?" She slowly started on her way, swaying her tail in an inviting motion towards Lucio. "Perhaps we can scheme the death of Zeta on the way." The doe grinned, whirling towards the lake again, and returning to her own thoughts.
Was it... Luke? Nah... Lou?

Lucio narrowed his eyes, somewhat annoyed. Something was off about his companion, and he didn't like it.
"Yeah, sure..." Lucio strolled at Xiphi's side, suspicion obvious in his voice. "As much as I like thinking of ways to kill Zeta, that can wait. Right now, I'd like to ask you something." He glanced at her, not waiting for an answer. "You're being shifty. I don't like it. What are you up to?"
And then it hit him. It could be a set-up! He dashed to block her way, standing in front of her. "You are up to something! What is it?" he questioned, his voice severe. "Why do you want to go to the lake so badly?"

Xiphi stopped, slightly puzzled by Lucio's paranoid behavior. "Shifty? Darling, I'm a delta herla. My scales get uncomfortable and itchy if I stay dry too long. They've been irritating me all day."
She submissively lowered her head, as if to reach out and touch him with her nose. "I have nothing against you. So, why would I be up to something?"

Lucio glared at her for a moment longer, considering her words, before turning around to look at the lake in the distance. He spoke to her, his words blunt, still staring at the lake.
"Zeta is a delta. Those two that hassled me not too long ago are deltas," he dug his hoof into the ground, irritated. "I don't like your kind. Bunch of arrogant know-it-alls that have nothing to be proud of in the first place." He sounded like he was about to continue, but merely took a breath and exhaled harshly through his nose.
"Go on then," he growled, turning to look at her. Lucio still wasn't done questioning, though. "But if that's true, then why don't you have anything against me? I know everyone doesn't like me. I'm not stupid, it's obvious by how they treat me. So why don't you?" He stared at her expectantly, same stern look on his face.

Xiphi bit her lip, hoping she got his name right. "Lucio, you have never wronged me. Never harmed me. I have no reason to treat you like an enemy." She cautiously inched forward, trying to reassure the Blood Fury. "I don't understand the way the others treat you. It doesn't seem fair... and I hope you don't discriminate against me because of them..." She casually broke eye contact and began wandering towards the sparkling lake ahead. Gently brushing against the buck, she turned and asked, "...Will you come with me?"

Ears and eyes trained intently on Xiphi, Lucio listened, his serious expression never leaving his face. When she moved towards him, however, he tensed. Obviously, he was still paranoid, but Lucio tried not to show it. When she finished, he spoke up, his words calm but with an accusing edge.
"I don't care that they treat me like that. I expect it. I'm just wondering why you wouldn't automatically think of me as a menace like so many others do. You've seen me, I'm sure. At least heard of me. Even now, you see my scars. Herla I have never met before walk up to me and and give me crap because of what they've seen or heard."
His only reaction when her smooth body brushed against his own was to furrow his eyebrows and wrinkle his nose, stepping back. "I'll tell you right now, I have no valuables. What you see on me now is all I have. And don't think just because you befriend me you suddenly have your own personal bodyguard. I don't know what your game is, but I can tell you right now, I'm not playing."

Xiphi sighed with a frown. "I've heard what you've done. Perhaps you're just misunderstood... Quite like me..." She sounded slightly hurt as Lucio backed away in distrust.
The doe dared not approach him again as she spoke, her voice serious, yet unusually gentle. "I doubt this tension between us can last forever, Lucio. But, it's up to you. I can wait."
By now, her tongue was ready to dry up and crack off. The extremely thirsty Xiphi eagerly faced the lake again. "For now, though, I really need some water." The dry sarcasm quickly returned and she licked her maw, trying to regain some moisture, to no avail.
Xiphi walked disdainfully across the arid ground, careful to stop if Lucio had anything else to say.

"'Just misunderstood?'" Lucio scoffed, looking incredulous. Offended, even. His tone was derisive, though he did feel a pang deep down he didn't want to admit. "You're kidding me. You're trying to make me out like I'm some wounded little fawn? I don't need your pity."
He was silent as he listened to Xiphi's next words, ears pulled back and teeth bared in a sneer. "That sounds like a challenge. Why so determined, hm?" Still, despite his harsh manner, he began following her obediently.
Now settling into a sullen mood, he stared down at his red hooves as he treaded after the doe. To his dismay, his white bracers were now stained and dirty, but he figured that would be his excuse for going to the lake now, to clean them. It wasn't like he was afraid of leaving Xiphi or anything.

Xiphi let her tail sway as she walked, deciding it might be a good idea to remember this guys name. She had almost let it slip away again. She heavily doubted this buck would let her nickname him, so it was best to stick with Lucio... despite how difficult it was to remember.
The doe quickly glanced over her shoulder as Lucio was looking down. To her surprise, he was following her! Maybe I'm getting through to him after all... Unless he just wants to murder me. She thought, smirking as she hastened her pace towards the lake. "Is it just me, or is the sun getting hotter?" She said, directed to no one in particular. A shiver trailed down her back, causing her frills to wiggle. It was as if she was trying to shake the itch away.

Hearing Xiphi speak, Lucio glanced up, still in a bad mood. Though now he was more frustrated at himself for still following her and not knowing what to say... So he fell back on the same tactic he always did when he couldn't come up with anything. Insults!
Quickening his pace to keep up, Lucio lifted his head and began. "You deltas are so weak. Honestly, you get shriveled up from a little sunshine?" He smirked, wondering if it was possible to get the doe riled up. "I guess that serves your kind right for leaving your filthy swamps in the first place."

Xiphi snorted as another shiver caused her to writhe. She couldn't come up with a defense, not in this condition. All the sounds she could muster were grunts and huffs as she galloped for the inviting lake.
Finally, they arrived. Xiphi bounded into the water without a second thought, the pain instantly washing away. She spent quite a while completely submerged. She thoroughly enjoyed the relief, bubbles spilling from her nose as she sat on the muddy bottom.
