PostPosted: Wed Aug 12, 2009 8:28 pm

They are similar in the way that each group THINKS their tastes in music are unique.

But in all seriousness, I don't know what you're talking about. Are scene kids listening to Pavement now?

I dunno. Anyone else notice that almost everyone in the acoutic/indie genre looks the EXACT SAME? Like, NSN has 10000 knock-off artists... so many look the same.

I feel like it's hard to imitate an artist who isn't really that original to begin with. I mean, Never Shout Never is certainly guilty of being derivative of other artists. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't give him credit for spawning an entire scene.

I don't see how he could be that influential considering how he's only been around for about a year. And besides, none of the artists you mentioned are particularly prolific. I'd hardly consider them to be representative of the indie music scene.

I suppose I can't argue with you there. I don't really care for Never Shout Never, so by proxy I don't really listen to the musicians that he is associated with. But from what I've read, he's been around since 2007, but didn't start releasing CDs until 2008. So that's two years.

Anyways, I feel like the person who had the most influence on the modern indie singer-songwriter label would be this guy.

im sure 07 is when he started picking up popularity, but he's been online since 05. also, he has a band "eatmewhileimhot" (formerly mister owl) but idk if that was before or after NSN
