Some of you may remember a while back I had a pet rat my bf rescued from his work. He wasn't wild, just an escapee from the pet store next door. Well it happened again, though this time we can't tell if it's a mouse or a baby rat. We named him Mouse (after the dog in The Dresden Files), and so far he's been eating his way through a mountain of food. So far the cats haven't noticed, though we are keeping him in a back room for a while so that he can calm down and become more acclimated to everything. Our only worry is Albedo, our feral cat, but as long as we're careful, Mouse should be okay. What's funny about this is a week ago we had the "no more pets" discussion. But animals in need have a way of finding us, and those that are needy we can't turn down.

This animal is from the store? If not, if wild, do be careful of disease. I don't think I would make pets of wild mice or rats. Those should be taken to a field or something at least 5 miles from where you live. But I am not very good with mice or rats so that's just me.

No, he's not wild. We are still being careful of disease, however. My bf debated releasing him, but he wouldn't of survived, he's way too friendly for one thing.

So is it a rat or a mouse? Are you in a house or an apt?

It's a mouse, and we live in a house. He almost escaped the other day when we were cleaning his cage, took over half an hour to catch him 'cause he zoomed everywhere. Luckily the room we're keeping him in doesn't have much stuff in it otherwise he'd be gone. But he seems to be settling in nicely, doesn't eat near as much food as he did the first day, hehe.

Wow... You take in rats and mice that find their way into your home? I would totally freak out if a mouse popped its head in my home. I would be standing on the sofa and screaming at Omega to kill it! >.< And then he would definitely be getting me a kitty, no buts about it.
Of course... If they really aren't wild and they are escaping from the pet store... then shouldn't you give them back? Maybe they should know their animals that they sell are getting away and finding refuge in your home... They should definitely fix their cages or something.

honestly, the idea never crossed our minds. We're of the if it needs a home, we supply it kind of people (only if they really need homes though, bf won't let me bring home those that can easily find one). Which makes me sad sometimes, 'cause I grew up giving a home to all animals, which makes it hard for me to say no. Probably why he does it, lol.

The cats I have are all descendents of a stray I rescue out of a trash dumpster it was drowning in when it was a kitten.

Ithieldin The cats I have are all descendents of a stray I rescue out of a trash dumpster it was drowning in when it was a kitten. That is awesome. Our feral cat was rescued from the wilds of Jack in the Box. For a cat that lived the first ten or so weeks of his life next to a dumpster, he is surprisingly happy with staying indoors and getting all the love he can squeeze out of us and our other cat.

Yea, thats cool to. I was never a cat person, dogs my whole life. I came out of the dr's office one day, and heard this horrible keening, I came over to the dumpster, and their where two tiney kittens up to their necks in back water clinging to a board. I climbed in and picked them up, they where back with crap. I had trouble getting out, and some old people came out of the office, and I asked them for help with the cats, and they said they are not cat people. I eventually got out, and took the kittens home with me, they groomed each other on the way, and both ended up being pure white, one with icy emerald eyes, and one with icy blue. I named them emerald and sapphire. Emerald died in just a couple of weeks, but I had Sapphire for almost a year. She got out of my house, and had kittens, unfortunately she died from eating a poisoned frog not long after, but I kept two of her progeny, one of those got out, and had kittens, thus I caught on to the whole spaying thing at that point and kept four of them. 3 siamese, and one black with a white chest and paws. There names are Sophia, Mia, Silver, and Spooky, and they are the most loving cats you will ever see, completely intrested in humans. They live their lives for me and my girl friend it seems.
