 Jet peered out of his den, tail wagging eagerly. He had seen a butterfly fluttering about near the entrace of the den, and was anxious to find it. It was always enjoyable to chase after the things, as they were a challenge to catch. Well, not as much, as he was growing much larger, but still.
Seeing it retreat into the forest nearby, he followed it in a leisurely pace, breaking into a run when he was sure his adopted family couldn't see. He bounded over logs, veered away from trees that loomed suddenly in front of him, and relentlessly chased the butterfly. He let it go ahead often, of course, because it would be boring if he caught it right away, and when it decided to land and rest on a flower, he let it be, and looked around.
Realizing he was farther away from the den than he had ever been before made him excited again and, with a skip in his step and his tail raised high, he proceeded to inspect everything in the immediate area.

 Ginger sighed and flopped onto her side near a patch of flowers. She had been following a similar butterfly for hours and was now feeling rather exhausted. It was true that she was in a very unfamiliar area and had no idea how she’d managed to get so lost, but there would be plenty of time to worry about that after a quick rest. Besides, it really wasn’t like her to worry.
Lying on the cool forest floor Ginger found herself getting sleepy as her eyes started to close. She was just drifting off when she smelt something strange. Sitting straight up she sniffed the air for the unfamiliar smell. It was definitely animal, and male…that’s all she could get from the scent without getting closer. Finally giving into her curiosity, Ginger began to follow the scent until she saw the young male nearby.
He seemed friendly and rather excited about something, as Ginger slowly approached him, giving a little yip to let him know she was there, “Hello”

Jet jumped in surprise and turned around quickly, assuming it had been one of his adopted siblings, who had followed him out here (most likely Bramble, from the pitch of the voice). He was tensed, ready to pounce playfully on whoever it was, when he realized it was a stranger he had never met before.
"Oh." he said, surprised, quickly straightening himself. "Hello." Despite the fact that he was embarassed, he wondered where she had suddenly come from, and what she was doing there.

Ginger giggled at the stranger’s behaviour; “You’re funny” she wandered closer to him and sniffed at his fur, before bounding around him playfully, “What were you looking for?”

Jet flickered his ears, flustered. It seemed she had noticed. But at least she didn't dwell on it, and he was glad for that. As thanks, he let her sniff him, and even wagged his tail as she bounded around him. She was like a fox, or something, appearance-wise, he thought, as he took note of her appearance.
"Just looking around." he replied when she spoke, sitting and curling his tail around his paws. "You?"

Ginger sat down in front of him and tilted her head to the side as she listened to his answer. She wondered slightly if he was telling her the whole truth or not, since he did seem slightly unnerved when she’d spotted him “Oh I see… not looking for something, just looking around?”
To his question she looked down at her paws for a second before answering, “Nothing much, just exploring I guess… Do you live around here?”

Jet nodded. It wasn't a lie. Sure, at first, he had been looking for, and chasing, the butterfly, but he was done with that now. Proof? The butterfly just fluttered in his line of vision, but he did nothing to chase it. Instead, he returned his attention back to the female.
"I see." he said, nodding. He had been doing pretty much the same thing. "I guess, although... not really." he muttered. He lived close by, meaning he could get there in under a day, but it wasn't so close that he actually came here all the time. It was his first time coming here, after all.

Ginger’s eyes followed the butterfly as it fluttered past, her mind wandering as she resisted the urge to bound after it. Snapping back into reality she giggled at the male’s answers, “You don’t say much do you?” she looked him up and down, “…I’m Ginger, what’s your name stranger?”

Jet shrugged, frowning. He hadn't really thought about it before, and he talked plenty of times when he was with Loopy and the others. But he guessed that, because the female hadn't been around him much, he seemed to be more of the silent type.
"Jet." he replied, smiling. "It's nice to meet you, Ginger."

“Ooh Jet, I like that name! Nice to meet you too” she smiled at him sweetly, unsure what to say next. She couldn’t help but feel he didn’t seem that interested in talking to her; but being the positive pup that she was she pushed those negative thoughts aside. “Er, sooo…What’s your family like? Do you have lots of brothers and sisters to play with?”

"Thanks." Jet replied. "I like your name, too." He nodded lightly, cocking his head curiously at the sudden silence.
It wasn't that he was untalkative. More as if he were unsure on what to say around strangers. Possibly because of the one time another Varg almost ate him when he blurted out that he didn't know mates could be same-gendered. Possibly.
"Yep." he replied when she finally spoke, smiling widely at the thought of them. "We're not family by blood - well, a few of us are. But we were adopted." he said proudly. Most were ashamed to be adopted, but he was glad he ended up with Loopy and the others. Maybe not so much with Balin, but still.

“Ohh adopted…wait, huh? Not a family by blood? How’s that work?” Ginger tilted her head as she tried to work out what he meant, since she’d never heard of such things before.

"It just means my parents now didn't give birth to me, or the others." Jet explained. "But it doesn't make them my family any less. We - my siblings and I - owe a lot to them. We wouldn't have survived without them." he said, nodding.
He would have continued, but realizied something. "What about you?" he asked. "Where's your family?"
Usually, pups wouldn't stray too far from their family, and it didn't seem as if any Varg had been in this area for a while. But then again, he wasn't experienced, and it was his first time here. Perhaps her family was a bit farther off?

Ginger nodded as she finally understood what he meant, “Oh yes, I see” the idea still seemed a little strange to her but it sure sounded like a kind and loving family to be a part of.
To his question she looked away slightly, “Well, my family are wonderful” a small smile crossed her face as she remembered them, “I have two brothers and a mother who cares for us all …my daddy left to go hunting one day and never came home, I really don’t know what happened” she looked down at her paws for a second or two, “but I’m, no, we’re alright really” she didn’t want to mention that she had wandered away from them nearly two days ago and hadn’t been able to find her way home. It was her problem and she didn’t want to worry Jet with her problems.

"Oh." was all Jet could say. He was the one who left his parents, not the other way around, so he had no idea what to say to make her feel better. Obviously, 'I'm sure you'll see him again one day!' wasn't going to help.
"Well, that's good." he said, after an awkward silence. He wasnt really the comforting type, and he was sure it was obvious by then. "Maybe... he'll come back one day?" he still said, trying to perk her up, but his assurance came out as more of a question than anything.
