 Ranger sighed and tucked his tail around himself as he rested in the shade of a tall tree. He watched as his younger brother Pace busied himself with a line of ants that were carrying a large dead beetle back to their nest. He often wondered how his brother could find interest in such strange things, but didn’t particularly care enough to pursue the thought. Pace was standing in what you could almost describe as a pouncing position. That is; his nose was on the ground between his paws and his rear was high in the air. Apart from his tail which was wagging slowly with contained excitement, he remained perfectly still as he watched the slightly blurry line of ants marching past his muzzle. Little things like this often amazed Pace and he loved to learn all he could about the world around him.
He could feel his brother’s eyes watching him, but Pace was used to this and paid him no mind. Pawing at the ground lightly, he watched as the ants scattered from their line for a second before quickly regaining order again, “How do you little guys do it?” he asked them in an almost whisper, “How do you carry something so much heavier then yourselves and work so well together as a pack? You must have a great alpha” he shuffled sideways to follow the group that had the beetle shell, desperately trying not to disturb them during his observation.

Ears perking as they rotated, trying to catch the direction he heard it from, Kaze lifted his head from his paws and looked into the forest. He thought he'd heard someone. Checking to make sure Kami still lay sleeping, gorged from a kill they were lucky enough to get. Nodding in silent satisfaction, he rose quietly and headed off towards where he was sure he'd heard something. Taking his time, he picked his way soundlessly through the loam until he rounded a huge tree to see two wolves together. Two males, and the younger one seemed fascinated by something on the forest floor. Curious, the older male glided behind the trees until he was closer to the lighter colored pup. Well, perhaps not quite a pup, but at the moment he sure was acting like it over a couple of ants.
Still, it was intriguing. he approached silently and laid down opposing the tawny wolf, his muzzle also to the ground as he studied the tiny creatures; his odd colored eyes studying, trying to see as this young one saw.

Ranger lifted his head, suddenly alert as the other male approached his brother. He didn’t seem threatening, but you could never really be sure. He cleared his throat to let him know of his presence, and resisted the urge to attack first ask questions later; deciding it was better to give the stranger a change before he tore him a new one.
Pace was deep in thought and it was only after he’d caught the stranger’s scent that he slowly looked up. His similarly mismatched eyes blinked to try and see him better. Pace’s sight was not fantastic at the best of times, but he could see well enough to get by. Although, it was often a challenge to get them to focus after he’d been staring at something so close for such a long period of time, “Hello? Can I help you?”

He heard the dark one's subtle hint and raised his head momentarily to nod at him, indicating he understood. There was no reason to fight, they were all without packs here, and what were they going to do? Argue over ants? But still, it tipped him off that these two were probably family, and he rested his nose back on the ground once more. After a moment it seemed the younger one finally noticed him. It was then that Kaze noticed this pup's eyes were so much like his own. Fascinating. There must be a reason for this. He wondered about their chance meeting and what would transpire. But something seemed amiss. Ah, right. The sight.
Kaze himself had an infliction, but it didn't seem to be as severe as this pup's.
"What do you see?"
He responded, still heavily curious to the tawny's behavior.
