She had done a lot of exploring lately and had finally found a perfect spot for what she knew was coming. A nice secluded island that linked back to the main land and it had a squat tree that housed the perfect little hollow. She had checked and rechecked it and knew that since the right sort of plants grew on the tiny island most of the reptiles would stay away. She knew little ones would be safe there.
Now she just needed to tell Roshan. She knew he wouldn't like that he wouldn't be able to see it too or go with her but she would have others to help. The females of the pride were always willing to help out in these matters.

Roshan was frowning, or rather, sulking, as he sat atop the little hill that he and Umoja often waited for one another on. Over the past few weeks he had been spending more of these little trips alone, waiting for her to come back from her exploration of the swamps. It didn't make him feel any better to know that he couldn't go survey it himself, or that he couldn't be there to guard them while they were born.
"There are some flaws to this pride," he said under his breath as he lay his head on his paws - silently hoping that this would just be done and over with so that he could have his mate and his cubs protected at his side. His head lifted up again, ears swiveling as he heard the distant swish. "Umoja?" he called out, hoping against hope she was finally back to alleviate his anxiety.

"yes Roshan." She smiled as she padded carefully through the water toward the small hill. She smiled softly as she shook the mud off her feet as best she could. She had missed being able to explore with her mate but that was the way of things here. Hopefully things wouldn't seem as long once she had other things to worry about. She hated not being able to share this with him.

He huffed lightly at her comment, but tried to make his frown fade away as best as he could. "I don't think it's really going to hurt anything," he muttered, his tail twitching with his irritation as he moved over to make room for her.
"Any luck this time?" he asked, turning to look at her. He wouldn't ask where it was or any of the details, but time restraints were starting to get a little heavy, and it'd be at least a little peace for him to know that she had somewhere safe to be with them.

"it might." She Nuzzled him gently as she sat down beside him. "You should be smiling." She always liked it better when he was.
At his question she nodded. "I had some finally. I found what i needed." She hoped that would bring him a little peace at least. It would be easier to know that he wasn't completely worried that something horrible would happen.

"I'll try," he muttered, leaning his head into her nuzzle and offering her the best smile he could manage. Probably fake, but it was for her benefit. It was hard to truly smile through the anxiety he was feeling at that particular moment.
"Good," a sigh of relief blew out from his maw as he nodded, taking a moment to reaffirm that everything would be just fine without him. "I can rest a little better knowing you've got it planned now." He frowned again for a second, then turned to look at her. "Do you know who is coming to help, have you talked to them all already?" Spirits help him, but he felt painfully lost in this ritual.

"i promise i'll be safe." She nuzzled him again as she snuggled against his side. He would be there in spirit and she knew that the other females wouldn't let her come to any harm.
"I know who will be there." She nodded. "And i have given birth before. I am sure i will be alright. You'll be there with me in my heart and that will keep me and them safe." She licked his cheek gently. "Everything will be alright and before you know it we will be with you"

"I'm sorry I'm being such a worry wart," he muttered, sighing deeply and leaning against her as she nuzzled into him. He couldn't explain to her all the irrational fears he had. Growing up with Do'al and Makri and the rest of his family, then finding her and the tragedy that would befall them. His life had been.. something to make the most stable lion paranoid.
"It's just.. I've never really been in this situation before. I don't know what to do, what to expect." He groaned softly and buried his head against her neck, wishing he could hide all his fears away with the action. He'd never known he was a father before, and he probably would have been just as worried then as he was now. He tried mumbling against her next before he realized she probably couldn't understand, so he pulled away to speak instead.
"I only wish I could be there to make sure nothing goes wrong. It's hard to fight instincts."

She licked his cheek gently. "you're allowed to worry Roshan but you should know that i will be alright too. I finally got you back and we have another chance. The world is not cruel enough to make us go through something so terrible again." Not so soon. They needed this and she believed that everything would be fine.
"My instincts are telling me that in not too long we'll have the dream we've always wanted."

"I hope you're right," he murmured, his eyes closing slowly as he felt the warmth of her tongue over his cheek. "I've always trusted your instincts, though, so why should I bother to question them now?" He managed to open his eyes a fraction and look up at her, putting on the best smile he could manage. He still felt afraid, deep down, of all the little things that could go wrong, but Umoja was a natural at soothing away worries. He had to assume that it would be something vital to her being a good mother, which he had no doubt she would excel at. "This time, we'll make our own dreams come true."

"You worry because you care about me." She smiled softly at him. "It makes me feel special that you worry, even when there's no reason for you to." She rested her head against his again. "It is natural for you to worry ... we did not exactaly start out with the best of experiences with families."
She was worried too but she had let the worries go in the face of having Roshan with her and having a second chance.

"I should try to worry less," he murmured, but he did manage to offer her a gentle smile as he leaned his head into hers. He took a deep breath, his tail flipping behind him as he tried to relax and think about the things that were to come, all the things that would be facing them in the next couple of weeks. He realized, in the end, there wasn't much for him to do. That would be the hardest of all - being idle.
"Maybe I'll try to find a friend to talk to or something while I'm.. waiting, but I promise I'll try to relax."

"You should. It will give you wrinkles." She smiled as her tail wrapped with his. She knew he meant well but all the worrying wouldn't do him any good.
"Friends would be good. Maybe you could talk to that nice male that showed us the way in when we first came here? He seems like he would make a good friend for you." Roshan and the male had seemed to have a lot in common at least from what she remembered.

He simply chuckled as she teased him over wrinkles, silently wondering how much wrinkles would really affect him beneath all his thick, dark fur. It was an amusing image, though, even if it was something he'd rather not have happen. So he relented and let himself relax into the feel of her tail wrapping around his.
"Domevlo? I thought about that, actually," he admitted, nodding his head a little as he recalled their hulking swamp guide. "He seems nice enough, and maybe a little lonely. Maybe he'd appreciate having a companion for a little while." He certainly didn't expect to have time to spend gallivanting with friends once the cubs arrived, but maybe it'd be worth it to occupy himself with some companionship in the meantime. "I'll go talk to him later, I think." He offered her a smile of reassurance, meant to be a promise, and leaned his head into hers.

"Good." she closed her eyes as she rested against him. Domevlo seemed like he would make a good companion for Roshan and she was sure that her mate deserved a few friends after everything that had happened. "You will have to tell me how things work out once we have time."
Her voice was soft, almost sleepy, as she nodded a bit. She liked hearing about things Roshan did while she wasn't around. It was always soothing listening to him talk and she knew the little ones would like his stories too.
