As a child of the nineties, I love grunge. But seriously, who doesn't? Anyways, you may or may not be surprised to find out that it sounds even better acoustic (at least in my opinion).

So I have unplugged albums from both Nirvana and Alice In Chains, and I gotta say, it's good stuff. I was just wondering if anyone has any feelings on these albums or grunge in general.

Also, I'm just trying to keep the guild active.

I agree whole-heartedly. My dad and I had Nirvana's unplugged album, Sadly it was stolen.

If you get the chance I urge to to listen to Seether. They are a post-grunge band and the lead singer, Shaun Morgan, sounds eerily similar to Kurt Cobain. They also do the best Acoustic Concerts I have heard. I downloaded their Acoustic Album and listen to it all the time.

You've never heard of grunge? It was a style of music that evolved from alternative rock from the eighties and hard rock from the seventies. It was huge in the early nineties, and ruled rock radio for that time. However, it's a dead genre these days, due to the fact that most of the grunge bands have disbanded and popular modern rock trends have moved away from grunge and moved towards more post-grunge and nu-metal styles.

Anyways, I strongly urge you to check out some grunge. Nirvana, Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and Soundgarden are all fabulous grunge bands. And since this is the acoustic guild, you should particularly check out Nirvana and Alice In Chain's unplugged albums. Here's some videos you might be interested in.

@ Narcissistic Nectarine: Can't say I'm a fan of Seether. I've always found post-grunge to be a little on the dull side. Glad to see you're a Nirvana fan, though.

Sorry sorry sorry, sir.
I dislike grundge, the genre.
The only remotely grundge-y type music I listen to is Nirvana, even then I can easily get my full of it in short periods of time. e_e;;
Anyway Nirvana is great. ^^

I only play acoustic versions of songs now, and I think my versions sound way better than the plugged in ones.

I love acoustic music, but I think electricity has its place in music, too.

If you haven't listened to it already, you should check out Alice In Chains' Jar of Flies album. It's a lot more subdued than their other albums, and it does a great job of merging the acoustic side of their music with the electric side.

I'm not bashing electric music, I love it. I just gave up playing it is all. Alice in Chains is a favored band of mine, and that album moves me. Electric music definitely has its place, and sometimes it's better for certain songs to be played that way. I just prefer the rhythm I make for the songs I choose to play. I was kind of talking about the pop music I play sometimes. heh. I usually stick with folk, though.

I'm not a fan of grunge or metal but was instantly taken with Jar of Flies the first time I heard it. When a friend suggested I listen to "Don't Follow" I was skeptical as soon as I found out it was by Alice In Chains, since they aren't exactly my kind of band. Oh how wrong I was! "Don't Follow" and "Whale & Wasp" are my two favorite songs from the Jar of Flies EP.

I think it's sad actually how many beautiful voices out there are being wasted (imho) on what I call "screamer music". I can't sit through many of System of a Down's songs but was blown away at the tone of the lead singer's voice when I heard it during a quiet interval in a song. It's the same with Alice In Chains. I could listen to Layne Staley's voice more often had he recorded more songs in the acoustic style of Jar of Flies. Considering it was the first release of AIC to top the charts, it's sad they didn't do more in this style.

I listen to tons of screamo, metal, and hardcore, so harsh vocals have never really been all that much of an issue for me. However, even in AIC's more aggressive songs, the vocals are usually at least somewhat melodic (at least moreso than bands that legitimately scream).

But anyways, I strongly recommend you give their unplugged album a listen. I think you'll like what you hear.
