It was a cool, windy night, and Jet hummed as he padded alongside the moonlit river, dipping the tip of his tail into the cool waters. He flicked his tail suddenly, startled by the coldness of the river, and, by pure chance, a few drops of water hit a passing leaf. 'I'm so ninja.' he thought when he saw the wet leaf, the moisture clinging feebly to the earth as another gust of wind blew.

He turned around quickly, strutting away as if splashing a small, moving target accurately with a simple flick of his tail was nothing, in case anyone happened to be watching. He had to keep up appearances, after all.

Despite his now overflowing confidence at what he had just done, his ears were erect and alert for dangers that lurked in the darkness. But there was no need to worry, for the night was calm and silent, and many Lera and Putnar were asleep, to escape the cold temperature he felt so strongly, as his winter coat had yet to fully grow in.

He wondered if maybe it was best to simply leave the den like that. His family was large, and he could have easily stayed warm had he chosen to stay with them. But he had grown up on his own, and although he loved his family more than anything else in the world, sometimes, it was comforting to return to the aloneness with which he started with.

"I'm so totally a ninja. With spider senses."

How long was it now that she had seen the dying sun shed its waning light over the soft luscious earth beneath her paws? Or even since the moon started peeking out from between the stubborn lurking clouds in the sky. How long was it indeed?

It was silent. Not a ruffle of the fur, or the soft growl of a Varg could be heard as she stalked her Lera. Her ears flicked quietly and her eyes narrowed in determination as she locked in on her prey, which was a rabbit of course. Who's soft gray-brown pelt was masked with the darkness of the night and the eerie glow of the moon. Her heart pumped fiercely as the adrenaline slowly filled through her body. The moment was near, and soon her patience would be rewarded.

Suddenly, without a moment's notice the rabbit's ears shot straight up and it sprinted for the narrow hole just ten hops away from it. The hunt was on. The Putnar's muscles rippled as she sprinted for the rabbit. Ba dump ba dump ba dump.

It was anyone's game, but the Lera had gotten lucky this round, for it managed to wiggle into the hole in time to narrowly avoid getting it's tail clawed up by the Putnar. Growling softly to herself in frustration Starpelt set off for a new course. It wasn't long before she stopped, pausing to sniff the air.

Varg...

Another Varg was near. Beyond near, another Varg was standing in front of her, the only thing blocking his sight of her being a lone oak tree.

Jet continued on his way, his hum softening until all that was left was the quiet tread of his pawsteps. He made his way into a nearby forest, the canopy of leaves above darkening his vision momentarily. A few lengths ahead, however, by a lone oak, there was a break in the trees. Through the gap, a large sliver of moonlight shone, almost luminescent when next to such aphotic figures.

Once he reached the oak, he looked up towards the moon, Tor, with his half-closed eyes, the corner of his lips tugging up to form a smile. But as soon as it had come, it left, and he turned around swiftly, facing the tree, ears pressed forward. Despite his sudden action, there didn't seem to be any aggression about him; not even a strand of fur raised or a fang bared. Only a simple look of curiousity, although he seemed to lose even that, his demeanor changing almost to disinterest, when nothing happened after he had stared at the tree for a few long seconds.

Starpelt waited patiently as the humming died down and the other Varg realized that he wasn't alone. Her fur bristled with unease and caution as he spun around to face the tree she was behind. Her ears twitched as she waited for his reaction. Would this encounter end as a fight? Better yet, did she even have any fighting skills? A few seconds, transforming to a few long seconds passed and neither of them seemed to have made a move. From what she could tell the tension was slowly evaporating from the other Varg?

She debated between coming out to relieve both of them from their tension, however, if he did indeed prove to be a fighter, would that really be wise? And then there was the latter, staying behind the oak until either he left or came poking around the bush.

Jet sat, scratching his ear, his eyes still on the tree. Regardless of whether something was behind the tree or not, he debating simply leaving it. After all, if whoever it was (if there was anyone there in the first place), had yet to come out, it meant that it didn't want to show itself, for one reason or another.

But there was also the possibility that it was someone dangerous, just waiting for him to turn around so that his unprotected back could be attacked, and he couldn't let that happen, seeing as, in his opinion, everyone in his family looked up to him as a hero, and it would be devastating to them if he was killed. He, as said hero, should prevent it, right?

And so, with newfound determination, he stood and walked forward, towards the unknown.

Starpelt merely stared as the bushes parted to reveal Jet. With the little moonlight she had she could determine that his pelt was various shades of blacks to whites, but what's more, what was important here and now however was his stance, his position. From what she could tell he didn't look like a fighter, but your could never judge a varg by his cover. That was the first and last mistake many a varg could make and she decided that she'd be smarter than that, and avoid making the mistake at all costs.

Soon enough though, an awkward silence filled the air as both vargs stared one another down, neither of them daring to move a muscle, for the wrong movement, could and most likely would initiate a fight. Relaxing her tense muscles, Starpelt sat down, as if showing the other varg that she wasn't looking to pick a fight. "I'm Starpelt.", she growled simply.

Jet poked his head between the bushes, ears flickering as his eyes adjusted to the sudden lack of moonlight in the shadow of the large tree. He was surprised to see someone really was here, a female by the smell of her ((if people could tell gender by smell alone, I'm sure many awkward situations could have been avoided :'D)), and she seemed to be alone, too. He continued to watch her as he wondered what she was doing here, and realized she could be thinking the same thing about him.

He blinked, surprised and cut off from his train of thought, when she sat, and mirrored the movement. "Hola, Starpelt!" he greeted, a friendly smile suddenly decorating his lips. "The name's Jet, but you can call me Jet for short."

With the awkward silence seemingly out of the way Starpelt felt that she could relax. Besides, this Jet was rather interesting from what she could tell at his first words. Was there really a difference between his name and what he wanted her to call him though? He could've said the two differently though... Shaking the ridiculous thoughts out of her head she refocused her attention on Jet. If first impressions made all the difference she was sure that she could befriend him easily. "Well it's nice to meet you Jet... Might I inquire what you're doing here?", she asked, genuine curiosity in her voice. Most varg didn't dare venture out into the night without a good reason for it.

Jet titled his head curiously when the female shook her head, but didn't inquire about it, instead curling his tail about his paws. He thought her name suited her. Her pelt was as dark as the night sky, and the dyes on her flank did indeed resemble the stars that decorated the sky.

"I wondered what it would be like out here," he said, shrugging, the smile never leaving his face. It may have made him look creepy, if not for his half-closed eyes and his demeanor in general, which made him seem more pup-ish than dangerous.

Starpelt blinked and smiled. That was a rather innocent answer, and she figured that she could relate as well. She'd come here to admire the night sky from a new perspective and to hopefully catch herself some dinner. Unfortunately for her though, she had not managed to the fulfill the latter. "It's certainly nice, huh? I came here out of curiosity as well I guess. Though my goal was merely to admire the night sky."

"It is," Jet agreed enthusiastically, tail thumping the ground happily. He was glad this female wasn't as aggressive as some of the others he'd met before, and he wondered if she was a wandering Kerl, living her life alone, with no responsibilities but with danger, or if she had a family to go back to, like he did.

"The night sky?" he repeated, glancing up through the trees towards the dark sky, the moon burning brightly off to the side of his vision. "I can see why you'd like to," he said, returning his gaze to her.

It seemed to her that Jet was a rather friendly one. In her days of traveling she'd never met anyone that'd just flat out attack if you got too close, but she had met many that were not kind to company, and on a night like tonight she was just glad that Jet was one of the friendlier ones.

Starpelt nodded in agreement with him, gazing up at it with twinkling eyes.

Jet, noticing the female had her bi-colored eyes up at the sky, followed her gaze, and watched in silence with her. The silence awkward, as most of his silences seemed to be, which he was glad for, and he continued to watch the seemingly never-ending sky and stars for a moment before speaking again.

"You know, some believe that a each star represents a deceased Varg," he mentioned conversationally, shivering lightly against the cold.

Starpelt couldn't help but blink in surprise when Jet mentioned that. She blinked a feel more times before calming her mind a little. He was just making small talk, it was possible that he too believed, but then again, it was also possible for him not to believe it. She simply nodded before speaking, "Yes, some do believe in that. I, am also one of those whom believes.", she spoke quietly.

She then noticed that he was shivering slightly, and couldn't help but find her herself cold as well. "Why don't we find shelter for the night? Some say that it's much easier to converse when one's at ease.", she suggested.

Jet shook himself, ruffling out his coat for added warmth, one ear turned towards Starpelt politely while she spoke. He was surprised with her response, but he guessed it shouldn't have shocked him so. After all, everything about her seemed to relate in some way to the stars, and now he wondered if the star-shaped dyes decorating her pelt meant anything. Not the amount of deaths she had seen (or caused), he hoped.

"I agree," he said, rising. He noted that he had not responded to her previous comment, but in truth, he wasn't sure if he could. He usually didn't think about what happened after death, and when he had mentioned it before, it was simply one of the many blurbs of randomness that seemed to enjoy coming from his mouth.

"I know the area pretty well, if you don't have a place in mind," he mentioned, padding around.
