The confines of the wicker basket which had been her home grew steadily smaller. Soon, there was no room left in her dark comfortable nest to move around. It was time for her to leave the shelter and comfort of the known, and take her place in the much wider world.
It seemed to be a warm day, and the little filly had grown restless after staying in place where her mother had set her basket. After waiting a few moments to make sure that her mother was absorbed in her grazing, and the crazy flutter wasn't around, she quickly bounced away.
Once she felt she was far enough away, the little filly finally lifted the lid off her basket, and took her first steps out into the world. Rolling the basket, she tipped herself onto the soft spring grasses of the meadow, and struggled to get her four legs beneath her to stand upright.
Huffing as she finally stood upright, her stub of tail flicked this way and that, she held her head up proudly.

A small figure with wings trotted its way through the walls of the proud trees of the land. These barriers where nothing new to him since he had made his way in and out more times then he could count or more like more times than his mother would ever know about.
Chuckling to himself and letting out a sigh of amusement, the young foal galloped his way near of the forest and stuck close to the lining shrubbery.
"I wonder what....what?"
Ziatus blinked when he his mind swore it saw a bouncing basket making it way along the other side of the bushes. He did a double take and stumbled to a halt as he eyed it or more like what was making its way out it. Of course, a foal. A foal with a horn. A girl foal with a horn.
"Trying to make a good first impression for the trees?"

Zorana heard a voice and tried to turn just her head to face it, but being just newly out of the basket, she didn't have very good control over her body just yet. What was meant to be a simple head turn ended up with almost her entire body shifting, and she started to fall. Not having any grace yet, she toppled over into a tangle of limbs.
With a good deal of effort, she managed to get her limbs sorted, again, and she got to her feet. This time luckily facing the creature to whom the voice belonged. Her eyes took in the brightly colored foal. He looked nothing like her or her mama. He had wings. She screwed up her face. The wings didn't look like those of a butterfly, so he wasn't a flutter. And the only other type of soquili she'd heard of that had wings was the Kalona, but really, he didn't look that scary.
"Why'd I want to do somethin' like that?" She honestly was confused. Why would anyone want to make an impression on trees of all things.
"Are you kalona?" She wasn't frightened, but if he was a kalona, according to her mama he'd be dangerous. And she didn't want to end up as a snack, or something. Besides, if he wasn't, he was something she didn't know a thing about, and she was a curious foal." You really don't look scary, but you have wings..."
Her voice drifted off. And she unconciously tossed her short mane. "I'm Zorana. Who're you?"

Ever so slowly, the young foal's brow raised at the show spilling out before him. Though he knew that control over the body did take a bit of time to get the hang of, and he himself had to go through the same thing, still, he couldn't help but hold back a chuckle at the sight of it all.
Zaitus shook his head in amusement and let out a sigh while calming himself. However, his brow still remained raised when he caught sight of the female looking him over.
He rolled his eyes.
"I didn't mean it to be serious or anything. It was just a joke since it looked like you were. You know?"
He flicked an ear and let out an amused scuff. "And no, I am not a Kalona, though I have met one before! He's not mean like others say Kalonas are, at least, he is not mean to me anyway."
Zaitus chuckled to himself when the thought of his "teacher" popped in to his head. Yes, Illiand was a Kalona, and yes, some would say the foal is insane for hanging around him, but that did not matter to Zaitus. To him, the stallion was sort of someone to look up to since his father was a rare sight for him.
Shaking his head, the foal grinned and made his way through the shrubs to step closer to the filly. "My name's Zaitus, Zorana. What are you doing stepping out of your basket with no parent around? Running away from them or something?"

"I thought that jokes were supposed to be funny," She tilted her head slightly, curiously. " 'Cause that one really wasn't. Or maybe you just need to work on your sense of humor?"
At least, that is what she had gathered from listening to conversations around her while she'd been in her basket.
She perked up when she heard that the colt had met a 'lona, and it wasn't the nightmare that they were usually portrayed as. She wriggled with excitement and tried to get her questions in order. There was so much she wanted to know!
"If you're not a 'lona than just what are you? You mean, 'lona's don't eat foals for snacks? How did you meet him? Are lona's as scary as they're said to be?" All the questions just came out in a rush. But once they were said, she realised just how much she'd asked and winced. Perhaps Zaitus wouldn't want to allievate the curiousity of a curious young filly. Perhaps she'd detained him from something important. Her ears drooped slightly and she hung her head a little bit. "You don't have to answer my questions. Sorry. I'm just really curious."
Zoey instinctively stepped forward, kinda wobbly like but getting steadier by the moment, to meet the other foal as he stepped towards her.
She grinned. "My maman is grazing just over -that- way,"she gestured over her shoulder and towards the open plains." I'm not running away. I'm just trying to surprise her a bit."

Zaitus shrugged at the comment while his eyes turned to the canopy of the forest. He watches as a few birds flew overhead, and a few squirrels jumped from branch to branch. His wings lightly fluttered as a chuckle escaped his lips at a thought that passed.
“I guess others wouldn’t get my humor anyway unless they are like me or they can laugh at themselves. Others have told me I can be a little mean at times, but I don’t care. I don’t have to be nice to anyone unless I want to be nice to them anyway.”
It seemed like it was only a second before the silence of the forest was crashed by the motor that was Zorana’s mouth. His ears flicked wildly, his eyes setting in to a glazed and widened stare, as the words dances and meshed around in his head. The young colt figured if he thought hard enough and just took his time he could probably layout a few of the questions, if not all of them.
“Huh, right.” he shook his head and watched at the filly took the time to approach him.
“Well…” his tail flicked for a moment. “I’m a wind Soq to start with, My kind don’t have bat wings like the Kalona’s do, which I guess they could eat foals, but I think that is more of a skin walker type of deal. Wind soqs have bird wings like Angeni, except most Angeni have 4 wings if I remember right…”
Chuckling, he couldn’t help but grin and brighten at the questions relating to his teacher, though sad to say he didn’t get much from the rust of it all. “Maybe I can answer the rest if you ask slower this time around instead of making my brain spin.”

Having never heard of these other breeds before-excepting skinwalkers which were a favorite scare tactic her maman used to get her to behave while in her basket- Zoey listened to Zaitus' description, determined to learn more, and to be able to double check the facts she was given.
She felt kinda embarassed about asking so much, but she was new to this world, and there was just so much she wanted to see and do and know.
"I'm sorry." Zorana took a deep breath and tried to get her thoughts in order so as not to overwhelm Zai, again.
"There really wasn't much else. How did you meet the kalona? And are they really as scary as they are portrayed?"
Waiting to see if the colt would answer her last few questions, Zoey decided she was bored with just talking. Perhaps a game, she pondered. The forest was too closed in for tag, which would likely be her favorite game, now that she was out of her basket and could run, but she remembered the game she played so often, even before her emergence.
"How 'bout a game of hide-n-seek?"
