He'd found where he belonged. He'd been accepted into these lands, into a clan...he was home. But his mother wasn't sure that this was her home, and so Helaku paced through the pridelands, a thoughtful and faintly confused look upon his face.

He dearly hoped that he wouldn't accidentally trespass on another clan's land (did they take offense to that? he would need to find out), but he needed to think, to breathe. He needed to come to grips with the idea that he was an adult, and wouldn't always be able to run to his mother with problems. He would hunt later, to thank his new clan for taking him in. For now...he walked, and he thought.

Oh it was a beautiful day! The little lioness bounded into the sunlight, a broad smile on her maw as she gazed up at the clear blue sky. She sighed in contentment as the sun warmed her fur, there wasn't a cloud in the sky to block the wonderful beams. Ah, she could smell flowers, hear the song of birds, such a pretty day!

The hare hopping between her paws was not nearly so enthused about said 'beautiful day'. Oh no, he was at the moment far to busy avoid being stepped on by the over-excited lioness to enjoy the warmth of the sun, too worried about the trouble he -knew- she was going to get them both into. Just once, once he'd like to have a peaceful relaxing day, to enjoy the sun by just laying around, was that too much to ask? Really?

Apparently it was...

Just laying around in the sun? Where was the fun in that? No, such a beautiful day demanded to be enjoyed, to be explored.

"Look, Tauron, a butterfly!"

She squeaked with delight, following after the floating insect. Sigh, it was going to be one of those days wasn't it...

Helaku's eyes wandered as he did, flickering from grass to tree to bird to sky and back again without really seeing any of it. They almost flickered right past the little lioness and hare, too, but he wasn't that lost in thought. Mane tousling as he gave his head an abrupt shake in an attempt to clear his head, he gave her a sheepish 'sorry, wasn't all here' smile as he trotted over. "Hello." ...Right, best to remember to introduce himself before he was mistaken for an intruder. "Helaku, of Bird clan."

She was far to occupied with chasing the beautiful butterfly, paws bounding across the earth without a thought to where they landed. She hadn't the slightest idea of where she was going, where her paws where, or what (or who) she might run into. A canyon wall could have been right in front of her and she wouldn't have noticed it, much to Tauron's dismay.

"Nita, watch where you're going!"

The hare hopped ahead, trying to place himself in her path in the vain hope that she would listen to him for once in her life. But alas, his pleas fell on def ears.

"You worry too much, Tauron."

Hmph, one cannot help but worry when you are considered edible to the vast majority of predators...or when your friend was about to step into--LOOK OUT!

It was only a moment before that she had noticed the stranger, turning to face him with a grin. And that was when it happened. Not paying attention to her paws, Nita had turned and stepped right into hole, sending her sprawling into the dirt. Ouch...

Wow, that was a deep hole, she hoped that wasn't anyone's burrow. Oh Nita, you might want to take your paw out of said hole before you find out it is indeed occupied...

Well she looked friendl--oh no.

Helaku froze, ears flattened as he stared in helpless horror as the lioness was sent sprawling. Once he could convince his muscles that yes, it was a good idea to move again, he leapt forward. "Are you alright? Does anything hurt? Can you get up? Are you stuck?" There were little worried crinkles around his eyes, and he kept shifting from foot to foot as he tried to inspect her for injury.

She looked up at him with a somewhat sheepish grin, though her mood seemed otherwise unhampered by the fall. She'd just tripped, that's all, it wasn't the first time, wouldn't be the last. No need to worry, no reason to get upset, she was perfectly fine.

Tauron sighed, shaking his head. This was exactly the kind of thing he had warned her about. She needed to watch where she was going or next time she might walk get hurt. Sigh, she never listened to him! What if there had been a snake in that hole?

"I'm fine."

Or at least she had been until something caused her to jump with a loud squeak! YIPE! There was something in that hole and it was after her paw!

"Well...okay...if you say so." Helaku didn't look entirely convinced (she had just faceplanted rather neatly in front of him), but on the other hand he had a niggling feeling she was telling the truth. A feeling that, coincidentally, vanished as she yelped. She wasn't lying, but she most certainly wasn't fine now! "...Are you sure you're okay?"

...Well, crap. That came out a little more 'are you really telling the truth' than he'd meant it to.

He knew it, he just knew something like this would happen! But did she ever listen to him? Oh no, don't listen to the bunny, he just worries too much. Yeah, you just think about that while that while your paw is being gnawed on and maybe next time you'll listen. Hmph!

Oh dear, it seemed she had stepped in someone's burrow, someone who did not appreciate their house being invaded, or maybe they were just grumpy.

The little lioness gave a small whine, trying to pull her paw from the burrow and away from whatever was attacking her.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to step on your house."

With a weak 'I'll do my best' grin for the lioness' rabbit friend, Helaku stepped closer to the hole. Crouching down so that he could see better, he tried to peer inside. Foot, check. Teeth of angry small mammal, check. "We're sorry we disturbed you," he echoed, vainly hoping that maybe it could be reasoned with. "If you could just let us get out of your home, we'll be on our way..." Slowly reaching a paw inside so that he could attempt to pry her foot away from the territorial creature, he yelped as the little beast decided to n** HIM instead.

Grrrr...there went that idea. Oh well, they'd need lunch after this anyways. The next time he reached his paw in there, he was much quicker...and his claws were unsheathed. Take that, soon-to-be snack.

Ow, why was it being so mean? She hadn't meant to step in its burrow, she had tripped. If it would just let go and stop biting her she could pull her paw out of its house. Whine!

Tauron muttered to himself, hopping on the earth above the burrow in his own attempt to shake the rodent free. Hmph, it really was being a very grumpy and unreasonable gopher, especially seeing that it was attacking something that could EAT IT!

"Hey! Let go before these lions eat you!"

Stupid gopher, get eaten then.

Another yelp, a jump, and a flail later, Awinita had at least pulled her paw, and the small gopher, from the hole. Owwww...

Oh, hey, her paw was out...and so was the gopher. That was rather unfortunate for the gopher, but quite fortituous for Helaku and the lioness (who he really needed to ask the name of after this).

Crunch.

It was much easier to convince a cantankerous little rodent to stop chewing on somebody when they weren't alive to protest. As Helaku saw it, it'd been given plenty of fair warning--now, it would be a lovely little snack. Laying it down in front of her, he eyed her paw. That...looked rather painful. "Would you...like me to find a healer? ...Do we have healers?"

A twitch of her tail, a soft sniffle, Awinita looked down at her paw, at the gopher, the paws of the other lion, Tauron, then back to the gopher. Oww, her paw really stung, why did the gopher have to be so mean? If it hadn't bitten her it'd still be safe in it's hole and--

Oh dear, the tears started to fall, running down her cheeks to fall on the ground at her paws. She hadn't wanted to kill it, she'd just wanted it to let her paw go! Why couldn't it have just let go? Whiiiiine...

Tauron just shook his head with a sigh. He supposed he'd have to scold her later, when he wasn't so worried about her paw. At least maybe next time she'd listen to him and watch where she was going. Or maybe not, why start now, she never had before.

...Oh no. He'd meant to make her feel better by offering her a snack, not send her into tears with it! Feeling like a right b*****d for having essentially caused the whole mess to begin with, he took a deep breath and went with his gut feeling--the part that wasn't sinking into the earth at the moment, anyways.

Dearly hoping that he wasn't about to earn himself a smack in the face, he scootched closer and cuddled the little lioness against him. "Hey, hey now, it's okay now," he murmured. "I didn't really want to do that either, but I thought you might like something to eat after getting stuck in there and...I don't really think it was about to let go if I didn't."

Please, gods, don't let his instinct fail him now.

How silly she must have seemed, sobbing like a little cub who had just lost its best friend. She didn't mean to, she really didn't, she knew the lion had only done what he thought was the right thing (what was his name again?), she didn't want him to feel bad. But she couldn't stop.

Had her sister seen her at that moment, she'd have yelled at her, telling her she was being stupid for feeling bad for the gopher. Chepi was mean! Chepi would have eaten Tauron, she'd even tried. But Daddy wouldn't let her, so there!

But this lion was nice, he didn't yell at her, she liked that. A paw raised to wipe the tears from her eyes, tears gradually fading to a sniffle as she leaned against him. He was soft and fuzzy, and warm.

Helaku simply stayed still and held her, silently thanking the gods that he hadn't been knocked into next week and casting about in his mind for something to say. He wasn't sure that pointing out that the gopher had been living alone and probably wouldn't be missed would help--in fact, he had a sneaking feeling that would just make things worse. What to say, what to say...oh, right. In the fuss, introductions had been completely forgotten.

"I'm Helaku, of Bird clan." A pause. "...I'm new here."
