Twilight. The time when Herla lay thier heads in rest and the fireflies rub the sleep from thier eyes. The sun hung low, it's pink and orange lights playing reflections off of the soft water, casting its shimmering colors unto the leaves of the trees. Frogs slipped into the auquatic home, their daily songs being replaced by the harmony of the crickets. A spectacularly beautiful night, the earth dampened by a mornings rain, the scent fresh in the air. A soft breeze cooled the area, and the fireflies, lifting into the air, carried their light to the eyes of the forest. Calling out the rising moon. Sweet, sweet fireflies. A glowing reminder of the beauty of this new, strange, world. Thier lights played a sweet song to the lone Herla. A strange reminder of her home, a world of lights on color. She lifted her nose, catching the winds sweet scents. She sighed, shaking her pelt lightly as her own body joined in the display of lights. She danced with the fireflies, the white patterned lights of her hide mimicing their exotic displays. When the time of dancing had ended, Moki was enthralled. This world has so much beauty in it! From the birds in the sky, to the worms within the ground. "Everything is filled with life." She mused, dropping her nose to a Honeydew flower, one of millions. Her eyes were ones of a fawn. Everything was new to her, exciting, beautiful, and terrifying. She layed on her side, the beads in her hair clicking with her movements. She could only stay still for a moment, sitting back up. She rose once more, trotting to the water. She rose her front hooves, crashing into the water with a small splash. Little did she know, she was not alone. A growl alerted her to the presence. "Hello?" She called, moving towards the foriegn sound. She dropped her head, getting closer to the sound until the beast jumped out. It's jaws wrapped around her muzzle, she shrieked in pain, rearing back and kicking her legs violently until the wolf let go. She turned and ran, moving as fast as her legs would allow. She was not left to her own, the beast ran after her. She shrieked in terror, eyes shutting as she willing the nightmare to vanish.

With the darkness came silence, and with the silence came relief. Kisharon's eyes moved across the the dark shadows of the landscape, framed by the faint light from the fireflies. White wisps of air escaped his maw, floating upwards and disappearing into the night. Away from the sky, away from the twinkling stars and glows of the night, Kish turned his eyes downward. The water below him drew around his hooves and the reflection of his gaze and his markings stared back upwards, and his lip curled.
There was something about this place...
A firefly fluttered past his face and the Herla followed it with his eyes. It was too serene. To calm. This much tranquility and something was bound to break in due time. And he had a stabbing feeling of how that was to happen.
He's coming.
With a frustrated jerk, Kisharon reared his front hooves upwards. There was a crack as the ice on his legs moved and pulled from the water's now frozen surface.
The sound of a shriek, of a snarl, of mayhem pulled Kish from his thoughts, and his ears perked. Perhaps his past wouldn't be haunting him and breaking the tranquility this night.
At the sight of the blue doe with glowing blue markings, trailing what seemed like blood and being chased by a beast, Kisharon's ears perked and he charged forward. His rather large frame halted behind the doe and before the wolf, his head down and his horn glistening in the light of the fireflies.
The Herla's lip curled and his brow furrowed, his breath escaping his nostrils and maw in a cloud as he snarled.

The beast charged, blinded by hunger. He didn't seen the intervention until it has to late, crashing into the horn, and the Herla, with a yelp. The beast fell back, impaled with an icy wound. It growled meekly, life fading from it's body. The thinned and patchy grey fur tinged with it's own blood. It staggered, fighting death for a short while before it fell limp, warm blood pooling onto the ground.
Moki stopped running, turning quickly to watch with horror. Her eyes closed, the scent of blood hanging in her mind. She approached, movements almost jerky as she hesitated. Golden eyes flicking from the body, to the iced over Herla. Should she be afraid? She went to the body of her attack, pressing her nose to it's shoulder. "Go in peace.." She muttered lowly. Pity for her attacker. She withdrew her nose, taking a few steps back, eyes locked on the male.
Her body cringed, heavy breathing causing the trickle of her own blood to half spray from her mouth. She didn't know... She didn't /what/ to say. Her eyes stayed locked on his, legs quivering. A doe stuck in headlights.

The icy buck watched the doe silently as the walked to the fallen wolf, murmured her words of a heartfelt goodbye, and turned to watched him. Blood from the beast dripped down his horn, falling in a thick stream down past his eye, and falling to the ground, dripping from his chin. Icy blue eyes looked her over, from the blood from her mouth and her quivering eyes.
There was a momentary pause as Kisharon turned and walked away, only to return moments later with a plant in his maw. He walked towards her, his large body over her smaller frame, and broke the plant, liquids seeping down his maw. "Your wounds," he started, his words quiet and low, "can be treated with this plant." The buck brushed the plant across her muzzle, gently against the wounds from the wolf, before stepping back and turning his eyes to the creature.
"You seemed upset to watch the beast who tried to kill you die." Kish turned his gaze back to the other Herla. He was trying to figure her out, trying to decipher her motives, but to no avail. He wasn't quite used to such a showing of care for one to didn't seem to deserve it.

She stayed still, body still braced for flight. As he left she relaxed, legs almost giving out on her. She wobbled, attention turning to the fallen wolf. She mourned for him, his life, his family, his pack would miss him.
When he returned to her, treating her wounds with a plant, she stayed still, motionless. She only watched him, golden eyes trailing his every move. She was slightly comforted, but his question confused her. Of course she was upset. She spoke, slowly at first. Her voice accented with her homeland.
"Are you not?" She asked, ears tilting towards him. Was it not his culture to cherish life? Did he enjoy death? Beads clicked together lightly as she moved, stepping forward to lay a bunch of Honeydew flowers on his body. "Do you take joy in death?"

Kisharon continued to watch her with a pang of curiosity. "I do not." His voice was almost stern as he spoke. The buck's ears flicked as she moved, and he followed her with his gaze. "Death happens. Often is is necessary. Often, for one thing to live, another must die. And in that struggle, one has to make a choice." His head turned to the side, and with it, his eyes fell to the mountains in the distance, to the stars sparkling in the sky. "This is the way that I have been taught. To show compassion in a world such as this, in the world I have come from, is to wish your own death"
There was a sort of ominous tone in his voice, but in it there was a hint of softness. There was an understanding of the doe's words. It was foreign to him, yes, but he couldn't help but feel a wish to understand the world as she did. How would it be, he wondered, to cherish life as much as she?

She listened, nodding lightly. "And for one to sacrafice it's life for another, is that not noble?" She asked, raising her head to meet his head. She brushed her nose across his cheek, wiping away the blood. She closed her eyes, moving back.
"I honor the sacrafice. Of the fawn who feeds the pups of the wolf, who will grow old and die. His body nurture the grass that will feed the next generation of Herla. The loss is sad.. But death should not be wished upon the mother wolf. She should be honored in her death for returning the life she took from the fawn. We are all one, children of.. life." She said, turning to folow his line of site.
"The trees, the grass, the birds," She paused, watching a lone firefly pass. "These... Are all us." She let her eyes fall to the ground.
"I mourn for you.." She finished, turning to face the wind.

"If this is truly what you believe," Kisharon watched her, not moving as she brushed the blood from him, "then I commend you for your nobility." A rather amused look ran across his face and quickly disappeared. "Life is more often than not the only thing we have. Most will give anything to keep it."
At the doe's last words, the buck turned his eyes to her. "To accept death is an incredible thing." His opened his maw to speak again, but quickly shut it. Her words were completely foreign to him, and there didn't seem to be much that he could say. Instead, he merely flicked his tail and gazed towards the sky.

Moki closed her eyes, a small smile playing across her face. She glanced back at him. "Of course, it is not to say you should march to the den of the wolf and lay down."
Her tail flicked to the side, brushing against her feathered necklace, straightening it. "Life is about making life." She stated, turning back around, eyes sparkling with a playful light, almost.. Mischievious. Her tail flicked across his icy flank, grazing his chest as she turned.
"Life is about living." She added, giving a small stomp to the ground. "And if not for you than my life would be ended. I thank you for that." she bowed her head lightly. "I am Moki."

Kisharon's brow quirked at the sudden change of tone, from serious to almost... playful. His eyes watched her tail as it brushed against him. Strange.
He returned the bow, flicking his ears gently. the ice around his front legs cracked as he bent. "There is no need for any thanking. It is my pleasure, Moki. I am Kisharon."
A firefly appeared out of the corner of his eye and Kisharon stood again, following it with his eyes. He flicked his hair gently and it blew in the slight breeze. Moki. His eyes turned to her, and another firefly flew between them. How interesting.

"Kee-share-own." She sounded the name out, saying it once or twice before it became familiar. "Kisharon." She smiled, watching with delight as the fireflies flew. One landed on her nose, crawling it's way across her glowing spotted hide.
She blinked, his face was still covered with the scent of blood. She aprroached, having to stretch to meet his face, tounge darting to clean the blood. What she didn't expect, was for herself to become stuck. She pulled, wincing lightly.
She snorted, struggling to keep herself high enough to avoid ripping her tounge off. Well, this was quiet the situation. A flurry of fireflies released from thier perches on the grass as she moved surrounded the two.

Kisharon, to say the least, was not expecting this. His eyes widened as she got stuck, and he was slightly bewildered as suddenly the sky around them lit up as fireflies took flight. "Ah- h-hold on." He shifted slightly, lowering his head to her level, attempting to gently ease her off. He couldn't say that had happened before, and he didn't know exactly what to do; how to separate them without hurting her...
"I-I'm sorry," he murmured gently, stumbling about a bit as he attempted to move without jerking. After the ice warmed a bit she'd probably separate, but until then...

Moki cracked a smile, one fore hoof resting next to him as she got to support herself. She laughed, wobbling and shaking. She was sure this was a site to behold, stuck by the tounge. "Cu-es! Yew 'ound mu weaness!" She tried to say, the words hard to form.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm down. She stayed, stuck to him, as fireflies had a field day in the air. Landing, and taking flight from the two Herla. "They seem to lik uhf." She tried to say.
She shifted, resting her forehoofs on her back, trying to let him raise his head. If her tounge wasn't practically glued to his head, it'd almost be like dancing.

Kisharon gave an awkward laugh, moving as she did, careful not to tug. "They do, don't they?" He blinked. Apparantly, with her warm breath, the ice had melted and he pulled away. Still looking bewildered, Kisharon looked at her. His cold, calm composure and fallen away and his eyes were wide and wild.
"I am... er... sorry about that," he said with an awkward smile, shaking his head. "Are you alright?" The fireflies continued to fly around them, landing on the ground nearby. One settled on the tip of his horn, out of his sight, and gave a gentle, pulsating glow.

Her tounge flopped, she pressed it to her nose for warmth. "I'm fine!" She said, looking to the tip of his horn. She moved her legs, standing on her own four feet. She gave a small stamp of her feet, excited.
The moon was high, the light was bright, and there were fireflies everywhere. She grinned at him. "I'm the one who got stuck, why would you apologize?" She asked, taking a few steps to steady herself.
The a gust of wind whipped her hair into a small orcastra of beads. "Oh!" She cried, her feathers blowing away with the wind. She lept up, catching one in her mouth and looking for the others.
