User Image"Face it, Complex, we're lost!" whined Deviant. "And I'm starting to get hot!

How the two oddly colored puppies managed to get out of the den without being spotted was anyone's guess. Complex liked to attribute it to another growing superpower he had: invisibility! Stupid boy. More like no sense of direction, she thought with a snort as they walked, trying to keep as much to the shade as possible. Why were they even out and about again? Oh right, apparently her brother decided to follow after some dumb bird to see if it would teach him how to fly. Jeez. "Cooooom!"

"We're not lost!" Complex assured her with a grin. "We're following a bird, and birds always know where to go! That's how they migrain."

"That's migrate."

"Oooooh. Is that what it was? Whoops!" He laughed a little.

Deviant huffed and rolled her eyes, now beginning to pant. The terrain about them wasn't always flat, and the changing inclines were beginning to wear on her little paws. This wasn't what a prince and princess should be doing! But nooo, he just had to follow the bird! "Look, we can't even see it anymore. Let's just turn back before we get scolded."

"Juuuuuust a second. I'm sure it went this way. Oooh, and then I can fly us back and Mom and Dad will be proud of me!"

Right, or I'll come back with your splattered body . . . Or you'll come back with mine. Or we'll both die because you're such an idiot! Deviant continued to whine periodically as they walked along.

The little female knew she was all alone -- for now. Thankfully though, she wasn't too worried. Adelia and Adenru always came back for her no matter how far they roamed and she always delighted in their company. It never occurred to her that their . . . treatment. . . of her was perhaps not the sweetest or kindest. But sweetness, kindness. . . those emotions weren't meant for one of her type. She was ugly, she was of 'poor design' as Adenru liked to say, and easily forgotten about.

But that was OK. The little one was easily subserviant and while she didn't always understand why black and white was such an bad colour, she knew she was close enough to it to see Adenru look upon her with disappointment. Oh well. At least he hadn't eaten her like he'd originally tried to do. Ms. Adelia was nicer than Adenru, though Nawiri would never admit it. She would groom her and while sometime she was rough and demanded respect, Nawiri looked upon her as a surrogate mother. Adelia didn't mind if she snuggled up to her and she always defended her from Adenru's wrath (usually) . . .

So Nawiri could only say she was lucky. Very lucky. If they hadn't found her so many weeks before, she would have surely died. So it was with this knowledge that the little grey pup made sure she stay within the commanded 'territory' Adenru had chosen. It was a small spot of land, with a stream not far where the woods opened up a bit. It was quiet and there were many hiding places just in case something big and mean tried to eat her. . . .

Speaking of which there was something or someone approaching. The little pup had been rolling around carefree, sometimes chasing her tail, other times batting at her shadow. All this stopped though when she heard the soft shuffle of something nearby. Occasionally there was the soft whine of what sounded like another pup. . . . Still, Nawiri couldn't help but worry. She didn't want to get in trouble or get eaten after all, so it didn't take long for the little one to zip beneath a nearby bush.

Holding her breath, the red and blue eyed female waited for the others to approach. She caught sight of something very bright and unnaturally pink as well as something black nearby. They looked small and similar in design to her. But so oddly coloured! Still, the surrounding foliage might be deceiving her and she didn't dare run out in case there were bigger, hungrier ones nearby.

She was of the wrong design, after all. And ugly. No one wanted to be around an ugly girl like her. Hiding her nose under her paws, the charcoal pup waited to see what might happen next.

God, it was really starting to get hot now, what with the sun peaking out and them constantly moving and all. The breeeze was hardly comforting to the mostly dark-pelted female, and a scowl set into her features before long. "You know what? I think I'm going to leave you to your stupid bird search and go back to the where it's colder. And you'll be alone. We'll see how long your search'll last when you don't have anyone to talk to!"

. . .

"I'm serious, Com! I'm leaving you!"

. . .

"For real!"

. . .

"Dung it, Com, stop ignoring me! I'm leaving you alone to be eaten! THAT'S BAD!"

"Huh? Oh!" Complex seemed to come out of a small daze, tail wagging as he looked at his sister. "Okay! Tell Mom and Dad I'll fly back as soon as possible and I won't bother anyone while I do, promise!" Happy with this parting statement, he returned to sniffing out the bushes. Maybe birds hid there?

"You idiot! Getting eaten is so not good!" Growling a sigh, Deviant forced herself to continue after him. "Now I have to stick around so that you don't die on me. God!"

"Awww, that's nice of you~" her brother answered sincerely. He had such an awesome sister, wanting to look out for him like that! "Um . . . I don't think I smell bird here. I smell something else."

Deviant took a whiff and immediately stiffened into a crouch. "Wolf," she muttered, tugging at her brother's tail to retreat from the bushes and get closer to her. "We better leave, Com. It might eat us."

"But maybe it saw the bird . . ."

The little pup froze as the two conversed. On the one paw Nawiri was absolutely delighted that she had been right and the splashes of colour had been pups! Now that they were closer and surrounding foliage wasn't in the way, she got a good look at the pair and was surprised at what she saw. One was bright pink with wings and stripes and colours! And the other one, who seemed to be his sister, was purple and black and green and full of stripes and things! Surely this must have been what Adenru meant when he talked about being of perfect design and colour. . . .

Even the stripes on her paws weren't stripes so much as bland thick lines and scribbles. And her coat was made of ebony and ash with no lovely colours on her at all. Still, the little Nawiri wasn't able to fret about her pelt long as she noticed that the pink one was coming right towards her! He was sniffing in the bushes and, while his sister pegged her right by dubbing her a wolf, it didn't seem to stop the pink one.

One red and blue eye stared at the pink one before she tentatively sniffed back, reaching her nose out to his own. Slowly, ever so slowly she reached out and pushed aside the foliage so the two might better see her. Giggling softly, abashedly, Nawiri twisted her head to the side and added, ". . . I din' see any birds here. Just the ones in the trees. But please don't go! I . . . I wouldn't ever eat anyone." She added, reaching out coyly to play with her tail.

She'd never met other wolf pups or wolves before. Honestly she didn't know what to expect.

Whoaheyanose! Blinking curiously, he matched the speed that this snout was moving forward as he himself inched back, for one reason or another not displaying any fear – then again, superheroes were never afraid! And it was just a snout. Who was a’scared of noses anyway? Only . . . the snout was connected to a face, and the face very dark for the most part, so its two eyes stuck out to him even more: blue and red. Hey, Dad had a red eye too! And Mom sorta had blue eyes. With his green eyes, it was an epic color triad with hers! Complex wagged his tail. ”Hiya! I’m Complex,” he introduced himself immediately, since that was what wolves did when they met another wolf right? “And glad you said that! Dee –”

“ – Wants you to get the heck away from him,” Deviant growled, though her high-pitched voice turned it even less threatening than it originally was. She glared at her brother briefly. “You don’t just go around giving your name to strangers! Much less peasants! Think for once!”

Complex chuckled. “Well if she gives us a name, then she won’t be a stranger. And besides, maybe there’s royalty around here too. ‘Member that Mom and Dad met a prince and a queen once while they were travelling?” While his sister deteriorated into dark grumbles, he took the time to fully step back and appreciate who they had stumbled across. “Whoa . . . stripes!” he observed smartly with a big grin. “You looked like a masked hero! I could use a sidekick . . . Could you help us? We’re trying to find this red bird, but I think it flew a little too fast for us to follow. Well actually, any ol’ bird will do I think. Well the ones that can fly, at least. I hear there are birds up north that can’t! Can you imagine?”

Aw dung, now we’ll never leave . . . Deviant didn’t relax even when she saw the other pup’s demure behavior. After all, it could be a trap!

Nawiri was oh so excited to meet others her age! Her little tail was already wagging happily and while Complex retreated, she herself stepped fully out of the bushes. She was a small thing thanks to her ill-health but thankfully today she was feeling better than usual. She had no fever and her bones weren't quite as achey . . . . Still, compared to Complex and Deviant she didn't look entirely well or filled-out.

Nawiri's eyes looked from one to the other and back again. It was strange, really, but the pink male seemed ever so nice and friendly! But his sister, as pretty as she was, didn't seem quite so open. To show she could oblige, she did duck away from Complex, taking a moment to lick at some of her disheveled fur. A hero and royalty, wow!

Really . . . this was too great a thing to come true!

"Oooooh - should I . . should I bow?" She added with a little giggle, lowering her head and keeping her tail half-tucked while it wagged. "I've never met royalty before though Adelia and Adenru are very important! Not me though. I would never make a good sidekick or royalty. . . " She added solemnly, looking back and forth between the siblings.

How nice it would be to have a sibling, a playmate. Someone to talk to when the days grew lonely, someone to support you when your soul felt weary. Often Nawiri wished she had a sibling but . . . the truth was . . . it was never meant to be. "My names Nawiri. . . and it's. . it's very nice to meet you both!" She added, smiling shyly at the two.

It was a little difficult keeping up with the two of them. But hadn't Complex said something about looking for a bird? And a . . a sidekick? "Oh I . . I could never be a sidekick. I . . . I'm of poor design, you see and . . .while I don't know what that means I . . I think that means I can't be a sidekick. But birds do live here. . there's a nest not far, way up in a tree!" She added, trying to be as helpful as possible.

Wow. New friends. Hopefully they could be friends because Nawiri didn't have a one.

Poor . . . what? He blinked, confused. “You have four legs, two eyes, two ears, a nose, and a tail. I think you’re of just fine design!” Complex said with a nod, though the exact definition of “design” was beyond him. She was just a little on the thin side, but really who cared about stuff like that? “Plus you can walk and talk! That works. And no worries about the bowing; we wanna keep a low cover.”

But . . . she smells weird. Not outright bad, but something was . . . off. Deviant couldn’t place a paw on it exactly, and this made her more suspicious of the seemingly shy pup. “X,” she said to her brother, using his heroic alias, “do we really have to do this? We’re already kinda far from Mom and Dad, we should be getting back.”

“Dee, c’mon. Pleeeease?” He pouted, green eyes wide and bright. “Just one tree, that’s it. Promise!”

Deviant stared long and hard at him, trying to see if the sheer force of her glare might mitigate his attempt to persuade her. When nothing happened after a solid five seconds, she growled a sigh. “I hate it when you give me that look. So much.

“Yay!” Giddy, he turned back to Nawiri, tail wagging furiously. “Thanks for volunteering showing us around, Nawiri. Alright, lead us to the tree! Maybe if we stack on top of each other, we’ll be able to reach the bird’s nest.”
PostPosted: Wed May 12, 2010 5:39 pm

The young pup looked curious at Complex as he told her he didn't think her poor of design. Nawiri herself didn't understand Adenru's views not . . . not entirely but after being told so gruffly so many times she unfortunately believed it. "Oh I know I'm scrawny but . . . he rescued me with Adelia and he's awfully big and smart so I'd imagine he'd know why. And I don't want to be left alone again so I don't mind. . . Having such an ugly sooty coat doesn't help," she added with a soft sigh, her eyes looking forlornly over at Deviant. "Yours is awfully pretty with the purples and greens and oranges. . . Surely you're not of poor design either!" She added with firm nod and smile.

In the presence of royalty. . . how amazing was that!? Nawiri wasn't very lucky and wasn't very important, so she felt both honored and guilty she was with a prince and princess. They must have come from a magical place or at least some sort of kingdom; and if they were royalty than their parents must be a king and queen! It was amazing! She'd have such stories to tell Adelia whenever she returned . . .

Realizing that she was going to help them made her heart soar. Giggling, the young pup was quick to scurry forward. "I'm glad to help! You're the . . . you're the first strangers I've met since Adenru and 'Delia," she chattered, her shyness ebbing away thanks to her puppish excitement. Never had she been around others her age much less such important figures! Really . . . it was too much.

"This way though, it's not far, promise." She chirped, scurrying forward as fast as her little paws could take her. She was thin and weak and unfortunately was panting by the time she maneuvered around a few trees and up a small hill. "But there - see up there?" The tree was a young sapling, but it was huge compared to the pups. On one of the lower branches there was indeed a small nest, with a robin settled within. The little bird eyed the three pups, not entirely pleased her nest was of such notice.

Complex nodded as their new friend spoke to show that he was listening, every once in a while looking at her when doing so – though mostly he was focused on where his paws went. Once, he had accidentally stepped on some burrs and heavens it had taught him the crucial lesson of watching where he was going. Beside him as always, Deviant said nothing nor so much as inclined her head to Nawiri, more wrapped up in her darkened mood about this whole stupid deal. Really, who went bird talking! “Well let’s not be strangers after this, ‘kay?” Complex said once Nawiri was done, giving her another smile and seeming pleased that she too was excited about this like he was – unlike his sister. And oh, how gleeful he looked once they reached the tree, his green eyes fixated upon the disgruntled robin like it was an awaiting savior. Sure it wasn’t the red bird he saw earlier, but a bird was a bird!

“Caaaaaan yooooooou uuuuuunderstaaaaaaaand meeeeeee?” he barked to the robin slowly, annunciating as best he could. “IIIIIIII neeeeeeeeed to leeeeeeeeean how to flyyyyyyyyyy. Caaaaaaan yoooooooou teeeeeeeach meeeeee?”

“Oh God, he’ll get his eyes picked out,” Deviant mumbled darkly, still observing Nawiri and contemplating her words. She had said “strangers” and not parents. Was this pup parentless? Great, peasantry that was both weird smelling and without a family. Pitiful thing.
PostPosted: Wed May 12, 2010 6:20 pm

Nawiri was tickled pink when Complex told her that they shouldn't be strangers! Did. . . did that mean they could be friends then? Or was it too soon to assume such a thing? Either way, her tail wagged and her chest puffed out a bit proudly at the fact that, no matter what they might be called, stranger wasn't going to be one of them!

Nope, nope, nope!

She had her first friend. Her very very very first friend. And Deviant too, of course, she wasn't going to leave the quieter wolf out of it either. The young pup was very glad that she could now state she had some friends. . . Already she had memories to keep when they'd leave and she'd be on her own again. "Of course not! We can be . . we can be friends." She added with a nod and little smile.

Upon reaching the young tree, Nawiri watched as Complex began communicating with the bird. As far as she understood, her tongue couldn't twist like a birds even when she tried to tweet and whistle. But perhaps Complex knew the proper way. . . ?

"I dun think so. . . the bird seems pretty nice," she added quietly to Deviant, half-cringing back just in case. Still, she hoped her friend could learn to fly even if it wasn't something wolves naturally could do. Maybe he was special? He was royalty, after all, and what did she know about the going-ons of such a species?

The bird gave a questioning chirp even as her mate appeared, zooming over to a different branch. The red-breasted creature gave another chirrup at Complex before shuffling out his feathers. Honestly neither Mr. nor Ms. Robin had much more to say to the yapping pup below. . . To them he just sounded like he was yowling and causing a scene. For now, they'd wait them out.

Again and again Complex tried, growing more high-pitched since that was the way of birds, yes? Much chirping! Deviant snorted after about a minute of this nonsense, plopping on her bottom to begin cleaning herself in what shade she could find from the nearby trees. “Let me know when he starts getting pecked at.”

Complex didn’t appear to hear this. Rather, he seemed more excited about two things: one, Nawiri called all three of them “friends”; two, the birds were starting to give him some attention! Though they didn’t appear to be understanding him well. “I think . . . I must climb!” he announced to them, even though Deviant wasn’t paying him much mind. “It might be a low branch, but I need some assi . . . assassis . . . I’ll need some help.” He nodded to the two of them. “Dee, can you be on the bottom? I think Nawiri’s kinda small, so I don’t wanna accidentally hurt her.”

What? She looked up between licks and glared at him. What, now he was more concerned with some stupid weird-smelling girl than his own sister? The nerve!! “Leave me out of this!” she replied, feeling very slighted by this, coldly going back to cleaning.

“B-But . . .” Somehow, Com knew the pouty face wouldn’t work. But he didn’t want to shake the tree either, in case it made the robins dizzy, or angry, or worse make the nest fall. His ears tilted back in thought. “Okay, then . . . I’ll go on bottom. Dee, you go on top of me. And Nawiri, you can climb on top of her. Maybe that’ll get us high enough to reach them?”

“Idiot.” Deviant stood up with a dramatic sigh, clearly oozing reluctance with this plan. “Fine. And when this fails, I’ll say I toldja so.” Complex positioned himself at the base of the tree and, grunting softly, his sister clambered atop him. “Hey! Stop shaking or I’ll fall off.”

“T-Trying . ..” Deviant was heavier than she looked!
PostPosted: Fri May 14, 2010 4:25 pm

Nawiri wasn't entirely sure about Complex's plan either. It was one thing to pounce on a stranger but to climb up two just to speak to birds? Nawiri's ears pinned lightly at the though, especially as she realized that it was she who was going to wind up the highest of them all!

But pride got in the way of common sense. It wasn't that high up anyway and besides, she wanted to impress her new friends. Deviant she was unsure about but Complex seemed to know a thing or two, and he was awfully friendly. Besides, Nawiri didn't want to disappoint or look cowardly in front of her new friends . . .what would happen if they didn't like her if she did voice her concerns?

Nope.

So she'd go along with it, just to be safe. Better fall off and get hurt than go through life alone without any friends. Besides, she didn't think Complex or Deviant would let her get hurt anyway. So whatever did she have to worry about? "Ok . . . Here. . . Here I come. Are you sure you can hold two of us?" She questioned Complex, peering at him once before trying to maneauver a top him. Unfortunately, there wasn't much room to stand on the pink male with his sister in the way. And what if she was too heavy for him? Who knew, what if she was too heavy for Deviant!?

Still, Nawiri put on a brave face and eventually managed to get a top of Complex. She tried to move as delicatley as possible on Deviant too, but the black and purple wolf was intimidating and Nawiri feared she'd be far too heavy for both of them! "Sorry!" She apologized now and again, esepcially when she almost slipped and instinctively snapped at Deviant's fur.

Oh no . . this really wasn't working very well at all! Still, the charcoal female eventually fought her way to the top and used the tree to help support her weight. "N-n-now what?" She asked worriedly, glancing from the ground to the birds nest and back again. "Uh. . . C-C-Complex? Dee . . ?" She added after a moment, quite concerned.

While the mother bird stayed upon her nest, the male robin hopped closer. He wasn't a particularly aggressive creature but he also wasn't entirely pleased that pups were trying to get to his mate and their eggs! "I . . . I don't think this is a good idea!" She gasped slightly as the robin zoomed off its branch and past and around both the pups. He wasn't going to peck yet but he hoped his swooping and chittering was enough to warn them away.

As this was happening, it occurred to Nawiri that now that she was up on Deviant. . she wasn't entirely sure how she was supposed to get back down!

The tower of pups wobbled as Nawiri perilously climbed up both of them. “Watch it!” Deviant snapped as the frail thing caught on her fur to try and keep her own balance. And . . . ohgodwhoatheweight! She winced once Nawiri was atop her – skinnier or not, it was still hard to maintain her stance under the black pup! And she could feel Complex shaking terribly beneath her, which just added to her waning patience and waxing fear of falling. “What now, dunderhead?!”

It took Complex some time to answer, as he too was afraid of letting them fall. Like the heroes he so worshipped, he needed not only to be strong of heart, but strong in body as well – which wasn’t usually found in a pup’s scrawny limbs. Slowly he let his legs spread out a bit, hoping maybe that would help distribute the weight about and maybe not break his back, and the pink boy set his legs stiff. Still his breath was labored. “C-Can you ask it for me, N-Nawiri?” he asked in a strained voice. “Ask if it will . . . t-teach me how to fly . . .” He could heard it chittering, but he dared not lift his head and further strain more muscles. It’ll be over soon, it’ll be over soon, Com kept telling himself, sucking in breaths when he could. Heaven, it felt like he would be broken in half soon! But he had to hold fast not just for himself, but for these two!
PostPosted: Sat May 15, 2010 1:11 pm

Nawiri could feel the slight trembling of the wolves beneath her. Oh goodness, this was not very fun at all! Still leaning against the tree, the young pup tried hard not to reel from the vertigo. The little bird continued to swoop and spiral and tweet at the trio, trying hard to let them know their presence was unwanted.

"Can you . . Can you teach my friend down there how to fly, please!? He really wants to!! We . . We'll be on our way if you can or . . or maybe point to a bird who could!?" Nawiri babbled, ducking lightly as the bird got ever so closer in its swoops.

The female robin chirruped from her nest, but whatever she'd said Nawiri took it as a no. The male robin continued in its swoopings, this time reaching down to pull at a bit of fur from Deviant's tail, and then taking a moment to snip at Nawiri's nose. "Ouch! Complex I . . I think we need to find a new bird!" She whined slightly, ears flattening as she lowered herself against Deviant.

It was getting wobbly and she wasn't sure how she was supposed to get down. Oh goodness. . . . "They seem pretty upset," she added as the bird continued its agitated chittering. Nawiri's was trying to balance herself but it wasn't easy on Deviant's back, she felt it anytime the young wolf moved nad that in turned cause her to shift. But to shift the weight the wrong way would surely make them all topple. . . and the stupid bird wasn't helping! "How. . . How am I supposed to get down anyway?" She questioned, hoping Deviant or Complex might have the right answer. It was too high to jump from her spindly legs and yet there was no room on Complex to leap back down. Getting up was one thing. . .down was someting she hadn't thought of.
