~Make a Mob Contest~

Starts: Now!
Ends: 10pm CST, May 24th

The quintessential part of Azeroth and the connecting Outlands are the Creatures that live in it, from the mundane such as Humans, Wolves, and birds, to the fantastical such as the dragons, worgen, and hippogryphs, to even the downright unusual such as Spore Walkers, fleshbeasts, and Yogg-Saron.

With Deathwing on his way to bringing a grand Cataclysm upon the land of Azeroth, many new creatures will be appearing in the lands.

It is Your job to make a new mob/Species for the expansion, and the winner gets Moam, an Obsidian destroyer from the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj.

Full Size Uncert
unmasked

(Note: Even though in game they are aligned as Neutral Evil, He is NOT "Neutral Evil" like they are in game, but rather more on the neutral/good side of the spectrum, and just happens to look like an obsidian destroyer. Due to his genetics he cannot be an Evil Character.)

(Also Note: Art is not the most important part of this contest. biggrin The Concept is far more important then appearance.)

~Suggestions~

When designing your species, try to think of differences between males and females if there are any, different colorations for different breeds, clothing they'd wear if they're humanoids or human-like demons, etc, or if they're the only one of their kind and acting as a sort of Boss Monster/important NPC in game.

~Rules~

1. Mules (accounts less than 2 months old or with under 1000 posts) are NOT allowed.
2. Pictures must be 500x500 and under 100k. Please link to Larger images if you have them.
3. You MUST use your own artwork -- if you are found posting someone elses art you will be disqualified for the event.
4. You are allowed to do collaboration with someone you are co-owning with. However it counts as both of your entries so you can only post it once.
5. You are allowed to edit your entry until the contest closes for judging.

Username(s): Pollack.
Creature Name: Aldonza.
Catagory: Beast.
Entry: This brightly colored little bird one of the weaker monsters in the game. It's coat is easy to see against the deep green forests it lives in. Still it'll stalk you till you have your back turned, then it will jump out of the bushes and attack you with it's sharp claws on it's webbed feet, or bite you with it's bill full of teeth. If you do hurt it the little bird will let out a loud cry, calling it's family to come help it. Then shortly you'll have a whole clan of about 30 Aldonza's on your hands to kill.
My entry.
Size(s): About the size of a medium dog.
Environment: In the thick forests.
Common abilities: Tracking, Biting, Clawing.

Creature Name: Twisted Flytrap

Catagory: Beast/Plant

Entry: Well suited for dark caverns, swamps, and dank recesses of strongholds, Twisted Flytraps are near impossible to spot for the average adventurer, their only give away being their glowing eyes and faint iridescent skin. The goblins working for Deathwing created these creatures from mad experiments with plants and beasts, but not even they will go near the territory of these frightening creatures now.

Living on a diet of carrion and fresh meat (when adventurers are stupid enough to stumble into their territory), Flytraps are deadly, quick, and cunning. Their enormous mouths can bite men in two and their tails are capable of emitting poison either to sting or spray at unwary prey.

The cavern variety prefer hunting alone due to their much larger size and can be very territorial. Swamp versions and some dungeon varieties (noted by their red or blue tones) do hunt in packs and tend to be smaller than their cavern cousins. There are rumors over extremely large Twisted Flytraps being kept as "pets" in some strongholds and keeps, these particulars being monstrously giant, extremely strong, and should not be approached with a group less than five strong adventurers.

However, many warlocks and a few mages do pay well for the tumors attached to these creatures' flanks, finding that they work well in enchantments and spells. They're a rare commodity, though, since most are killed by these creatures before obtaining the tumors. That doesn't stop people from questing for the rare ingredient.

Should one be lucky enough to best a Twisted Flytrap, drops may include high-end hides, leathers, gems (rare), and weapons or armor (possibly from previously digested adventurers).

Creature Name: Lava Stalker
Catagory: Elemental/Beast (not sure if this would be considered an elemental)
Entry:
These creatures are the minions of the mighty Deathwing. They spread across parts of Azeroth, living in the giant, lava-filled crevasses that scored the land when the Cataclysm begun.

Reasons for looks: They swim through the lava, the only noticeable body part to unsuspecting victims is their shark-like fins. These act as a last minute warning to whoever might be straying too close. (This is also a reason why they have horrible posture and hump-like backs). Their bodies are made from the lava itself, therefore they cannot stray too far from the lava before they cool and start to slow and become "statue" like. (Good tactic for those who are too gutless to fight them). Their tails have fins on them to help them propel through the lava. These Fire-elementals have a lower jaw that resembles their master, Deathwing himself. This makes it easier for them to spew lava onto their foes.

Note: I only have a rough sketchish type thing for you right now.

Linky (sorry originally it was a little over >_> )
This is a base model. Normally they have hair, and possibly some basic clothing. Females are far more feminine looking, if somewhat larger. They're known for their long claws on hands and feet. They are varied in color from black to tan, and can have various markings.
Size(s): Impish in size, though the two would be much hated rivals.
Environment: It's rumored that the Belool'n share a common ancestor with the elves, which is only strengthened by the creatures affinity to the woodlands. They come out in darkness and hunt in packs, living in tight-knit social groups. They have a language all their own, however it's seldom that other beings should hear them speak. Ruthless and conniving, these creatures tend only towards destruction.
Common abilities: Aside from incredible agility and stealth, the creatures are apt with controlling the natural elements around them. They usually move about on all fours, but they also can run swiftly on their hind legs.

An animated patch of fungus infested soil. Harmless on their own, but dangerous in packs. They multiply into the smaller slugs when hit with a critical, resetting the little slugs' health back to full (each little slug has the same HP as a big slug.)

They spray life draining spores at their victims, and if the victim draws close enough, the Funglug will drench the victim in an ooze that slows the victim down. They then devour their victims with their overly sized mouths.

Depending on their location, a Funglug's mushrooms can be a multitude of different breeds. The most recorded species of mushroom on one Funglung is 50! There is a widely-known rumor that a Funglug the size of a dragon and sporting golden mushrooms lurks in the deepest reaches of Azeroth.

Loot from a Funglug includes: Mushrooms, Gold, Armor and Weapons (rare), Gems (very rare), and Slime.
Size(s): Little Slugs: About as high as a gnome
Big Slugs: A head smaller than a Tauren
Environment: Swamps, Forests, Magical Forests, Magical Swamps, anywhere with mushrooms
Common abilities: Multiplication when dealt a critical hit, HP Reset when Little Slugs are spawned, HP Leeching spores, Ooze that slows the player down

Creature Name: Theratar
Catagory: He is believed to be at least a 95+ Elite Elemental Giant. He is a unique mob who starts out as a quest-giver, but at the end of the quest chain the player will be forced to fight Theratar. He is not tamable, he is immune to elemental spells, and cannot be banished by warlocks or crowd controlled by any other means. He was introduced to bring quests and questers back into the drastically changed zone of Desolace.
Entry:
From a neutral outpost in Ashenvale, players will be given a quest to go to Moonglade. There they will speak to Keeper Remulos where the following dialogue will occur:

"Greetings, (player name). Thank you for answering my summons for assistance. It is good to see you once more." He smiles at you, though sadness lingers on his features. "I'll not waste your time. The seed you brought to me long ago, the seed from my brother Zaetar, has produced a stunted and sad tree." He gives you a pained smile. "This leads me to believe that all is not well with my brother. I ask that you travel to Desolace and seek out a giant named Theratar. I hear he has news that might help you in discovering what has happened to my brother. But be wary, traveler. The lands of Desolace are not as you might remember them."

Upon acceptance of the quest, the player must travel to Desolace. Once a vast wasteland tainted by the Burning Legion, centaurs and undead, Desolace is now a thriving verdant paradise filled with lush lagoons, strange creatures and beasts, and many new dangers.

It is in Desolace, wandering the lush plains, that the player will find Theratar. He is a large wandering giant with unknown HP. Upon quest completion and quick introductions (Theratar was freed from undiscovered caves in Maraudon by the second Sundering), the following dialogue will occur with the well-spoken stone giant:

"Ah, so you were sent by Remulos? I am familiar with the Keeper. You are here to see about the fate of Zaetar?" The giant shakes his head. "His fate is grim. He is trapped against his will. Before she died and without Zaetar's knowledge, Princess Theradras stole a piece of his soul, hiding it away." Theratar gestures with a large, stony hand.

"I do know how to free him. It will require a special dagger. It will be up to you to collect the parts."

Theratar offers the first of three quests.

The first quest, titled User ImageUser ImageCreating the Hilt directs the quester to collect a [Petrified Branch] from the Marrowdust Lagoon located to the south of what was once Mannoroc Coven. Upon completion of the quest, the following dialogue occurs with Theratar:

"Well done, (player name). Next we must collect the materials for the blade of this dagger."

The second quest, titled User ImageUser ImageThe Burning Blade directs the quester to collect six [Metal Scrap] from the Burning Blade Acolytes that still inhabit the northern area of Desolace. Upon completion of the quest, the following dialogue occurs with Theratar:

"Success, (player name)! The final thing we need is magic of the arcane."

The final quest, titled User ImageUser ImageNaga, Please. directs the quester to collect a [Shimmering Orb] from one of the naga Terrorlash Witches that inhabit the area formerly known as Sar'theris Strand, the western coast of Desolace. Upon completion of the quest, the following dialogue occurs with Theratar:

"Finally, Zaetar will be free of his bindings!"

After a moment, Theratar creates the dagger [Heartbreak of Theradras] and passes it to the player. (Upon mouseover of the item in the players bag, it is noted that the dagger possesses unimaginable power that is only suitable towards destorying Zaetar's prison). It is then that the following dialogue occurs:

"You are a hero, (player name). The final thing you must do is one of great importance." The giant pauses, almost as if unsure of himself. With great fervor, he speaks once more. "Plunge the dagger into my chest!"

Confused and horrified, the player will decline to do so, infuriating Theratar. This results in him attacking the player, leaving the player no choice but to use the dagger, plunging it deep into Theratar's chest. Upon doing so, Theratar begins to glow a blinding green hue before he shatters into rubble. What remains is the newly freed Shard of Zaetar. (A similar model to the old Spirit of Zaetar will be used, albeit smaller). The following dialogue will occur:

"At last, I am complete again! Thank you, (player name) for freeing me from my prison. No longer will Theradras keep me captive. Please, take this as a token of my undying gratitude. I must seek out my brother and put his mind to rest."

Because of the heavy phasing that will occur in Cataclysm, once a player kills Theratar he will no longer be seen. Instead, at the site of his death, a large mound of stones will rest. From the summit of these stones grows a single, fragile flower. A small plaque is left by an unknown being, which reads, "Though Theratar was the prison that bound the Shard of Zaetar, his soul was not chaotic nor evil. May he never be forgotten."

User Image
Much larger version here, if you like.
Size(s): He's a giant, so he's giant-sized.
Environment: With the coming of Cataclysm, Desolace has changed from the bone-riddled wasteland it once was to a lush tropical paradise. All signs of the Centaur have been washed clean from the rising waters created by the Sundering. Theratar wanders the verdant lands much like Rexxar did in vanilla WoW, though he is by no means as difficult to find.
Common abilities: Smash, stomp. Neither do much damage, as his point is not to kill the player, only to incite them to doing what must be done.
HP: Unknown. Being such a high level elite, his level is shown as a skull while his total HP remains a mystery.

Creature Name: Junk Raptor
Catagory: Mechanical/Elemental
Entry:
A creature borne out of left over sentient magical force or spiritual force and discarded armor and mech parts. It is a savage force with very little intelligence but makes up for its savagery, numbers and speed, and its will to feed off the magic of enchanted items. However, as much as they are made of metal, these creatures aren't that strong, only held together by the simplest of magic and the bonds between parts aren't very strong before they finally give in to a beating, in face, even showing magical sparks and aruas at the joints held together. However, these creatures also add in danger, not only for their hunting in numbers, but rather, the variety of weapons and armor they can assimilate into themselves.

These creatures will attack on sight, mostly aiming for equipments and other items the adventurer might carry to support itself. These creatures can be summoned by experienced warlocks and those inclined to the mechanical realm as well. May be tamable if well experienced enough.

Entry: "WHAT ARE THOSE?!" "Ums!" "THINK FASTER!" "They're Ums!!!!" "I KNOW YOU KNOW THIS, STOP ACTING STUPID!"
Ums are very special creatures, indeed. Their humps are their power source, and it is the magical body part that channels electricity through their bodies, also where their heart is located and a weak spot. Males have man parts and females have woman parts. The most generic ones are Eyeraep Yellow-Green and Black, and come in a spectrum of colors. Their electricity is an unusual color, like that of luminescent urine. They let their junk hang out proudly, not being of the humanoid variety. Despite all this, they aren't very important, in terms of common-ness. They reproduce quite quickly.
