 A deep breath, a gentle sigh, the little lioness breathed in the morning air, stretching under the warm sun, another beautiful day. Not that it wasn't a beautiful everyday, the sun stirring her each morning with a happy song in her ears.
There had been a change in the lioness, the always cheerful lioness had become...even more cheerful. It was as if she spent every day walking on the clouds, dancing to her heart's content. When was the last time she had stopped smiling? Ever her sister could not have caused it to fade. Every day was a new adventure, a new game with her knight in fuzzy armor.
She wondered what Helaku was doing (it seemed she wondered that a lot since the day they'd first met). A question that would surely be answered soon as she set off to find him, making her way to that place where they always met.
"Isn't the sky beautiful today, Tauron."
The hare shot her a glance as hopped at her side. His life seemed to be getting more complicated every day.
"It is."
Not that there was anything different about the sky today than the day before.

Helaku couldn't stop thinking about Awinita. Her gentle nature, her innocent curiosity, her infectious happiness--all of it had charmed him, captured him as surely as any well-crafted trap. He knew she needed a protector, someone to make sure the Nita he knew never faded, was never broken into someone realistic, grounded, and...lesser somehow. He...he wanted to be that protector.
He'd fallen in love with her, as surely as the sun rose in the morning and set in the evening. He simply couldn't imagine his future without her anymore.
When one lived in a pride that they were determined to make into the home they felt--no, knew--it would be, it only made sense to ask around and find out what the customs were. Courtship customs, in particular. Armed with his new knowledge, he set off for what had become something of a meeting place for the two. He couldn't say he had a plan (this was Nita, after all), but he knew what he wanted to do.

Her tail twitched as she pranced along the way, humming happily. She was going to go see Helaku, Helaku, Helaku, she was going to see--
Ah, there he was!
"Helaku!"
A happy squeak, Awinita bounded to her friend, not stopping until she had butted her head against his chest, brushing against his soft mane. She liked his mane, it was soft and fuzzy, and his eyes, so deep and kind, and...well okay, she liked everything about him.
Love? Yes, that was the best word for how she felt (though Tauron certainly would have called it 'twitterpaited'). Were there words to say how much he meant to her, how special he had become? Heaven help anyone who tried to keep her from her Helaku!

All hopes of explaining his feelings with some sort of romantically eloquent speech vanished as Nita butted her head against him. Were there even words for this? She made him happy, gave him hope that as long as there were bright sunny days, flowers, and butterflies in the world, everything would be just fine. He could only hope that he made her even half as happy, and that she wanted him to make her happy forever.
"Nita." Chuffing happily, he bent his head down to bump his forehead against hers. "How are you today?"

She had no clue as to whatever his intent might have been, no idea of the words he might have said. She just wanted to be with him, to share his company and nuzzle into his soft mane.
"Great, how are you?"
Eyes bright, she looked at him with that warm cheerful smile, a small purr as she licked his nose (she liked doing that). What would they do today? Watch clouds, chase butterflies, look for flowers, or maybe they could go for a swim, or they could go exploring. Whatever they did she would enjoy, so long as she was with him.
Tauron gave a small huff, resting in the grass a few feet away. Just once, could we please have a quiet day?

Helaku let a small, happy sigh escape him. Yeah, he could definitely spend the rest of his life like this. "I'm doing good." Truer words had never been spoken.
Cheeks warming at the lick, he briefly pondered sneaking one himself. No, not yet. He had something to do first, and things to say. He'd start off with the strangest question first. "What is your family name, Awinita?"

Her eyes had turned to the sky, gaze caught by one particularly fluffy cloud, trying to decide just what its shape reminded her of. Was it a mouse? Or a bunny, maybe it was...
She blinked, turning to look at Helaku with a somewhat quizzical expression. Her family name? Why was he asking--oh! She had never told him before, well that was silly of her, she'd have to tell him now then.
"Kidudushi."
She smiled, happy that he knew her full name. A gentle nudge against his fuzzy mane, her eyes looked skyard. Well, that cloud didn't look anything like a mouse or a bunny now.
"Do you have a family name?"
Silly Nita, she'd just realized she'd never asked his either.

Helaku shook his head. "No, I'd never heard of having a family name until I came here. It's interesting." And sensible--he could see how it could come in handy in keeping track of family lines. As for Helaku, he seemed...distracted, almost, yet more focused on Nita than ever.
He was a man on a mission.
Standing up, he padded over to a nearby tree, rummaging around in a slight hollow by its roots. Returning to Nita, it became apparent that he was carrying a handful of flowers in his mouth--and a feather, too, sticking out of the bundle. A feather for his clan, and flowers because Nita liked them. Laying it all down in front of Nita, he took a deep breath.
"Awinita Kidudushi, will you marry me?"

Her head tilted curiously, watching him for a moment. He didn't have a family name? There were other prides that didn't have family names? She had never thought of that before, did they--
Oh, flowers! The smile spread across her maw, Helaku had brought her flowers! Such pretty flowers, they must have smelled as beautiful as they looked.
She had raised a paw, the start of a bound that would have surely carried the cheerful little lioness to his side. But he was already laying them at her paws, his words stopping her mid-bound.
Marry him, he wanted her to marry him? Really? He wanted to spend the rest of his life with her? She loved him, she truly did, how happy he made her every day they met. He was sweet, kind, and gentle, she'd have happily spent every moment of every day with him.
Her thoughts passed in a moment of silence that may have seemed an eternity to poor Helaku, and yet it passed in an instant.
"I will!"
A broad smile, Awinita bounded to his side, pressing her body against his as she snuggled into his mane. Silly Helaku, of course she would.
Oh dear, if Tauron's jaw had dropped any further it would have touched the ground.
What? Tauron's jaw had nearly hit the ground as those words hit his ears. M-marriage? He had been right, his life -had- gotten a lot more complicated, and after there were married there would be--oh no, MORE OF THEM?! Someone just eat me now...

Helaku's heart had seemed to stop for a moment with the inevitable nervousness that seemed to infect every male, no matter how close the couple, at the moment of proposal. As she snuggled against his side, a sigh of relief that he hadn't even realized that he was holding whooshed out of him. Even if he wasn't quite done with this leap, the first giant step towards takeoff had been taken.
"So...your parents...do you think...they'll approve?" Each few words came between swipes of his tongue, as he started to groom Nita.

A purr rumbled through her as she buried herself in his soft mane. Mmmm...so soft and warm, she could have stayed there forever, just her, her knight, and a bunch of pretty flowers, what more could she ever ask for?
"Of course."
What a silly question, of course her parents would approve. Who could possibly not like Helaku? Except maybe her sister, but Chepi didn't could, so there, nyah!
"Do you want meet them?"
She smiled, looking up at him. Silly Nita, she hadn't even introduced him to her family yet? She really was scatterbrained wasn't she.

"Well, then..." Bumping his forehead against hers gently, Helaku carefully 'detached' himself from Nita and stood. Giving her a mischievous grin, he crouched and sprang into a run. "I'll race you there!"
...He'd let her win, so that he didn't get lost.

"Hey, wait up!"
With a bound she was after him, delighted laughter in her grin as they charged through the grass. Hah, she was going to beat him!
Every day should be this beautiful, this full of life and happiness. The sun so bright, clouds dancing through the sky, birds singing, butterflies, flowers, and Helaku at her side.
In a moment, life had changed. It would never be the same again, it would be much better than it ever had been before.
