Hoshino swam through his lake happily. The ocean wasn't for him. Too big. Too wide. Too... Salty. Eugh. The lake suited him well. It was small and homey and safe. And he got to meet all sorts of interesting ponies who came to the shore. So he swam, happy as a clam... or rather the escapee from a clam shell. Singing happily to himself, he headed for the surface, to see what the world would greet him with today.

Dacian trotted along the lake shore, watching the rippling waves as they rolled in from the main body of water. "I"m bored," the yearling mumbled to himself, and swished his tail in thought. Then, as was typical of Dacian, a bright (or not-so-bright) idea popped into his head, and with a whoop of delight the earth pony stepped back several paces, then plunged headlong into the water. He managed to make decent headway for a while based on pure luck. But alas, seapony he was not, and neither did he know how to swim. So it was that as he got further out, the more desperate his splashes got as he tried to keep his head above water.

Hearing the splashes above him, Hoshino powered his tail and swam faster for the surface. They didn't sound like happy splashes, but with non sea and mer ponies, he could never tell. They had an awful lot of limbs. he popped up beside the yearling. "Are you okay, or do you need help?" he asked

Dacian burbled as his head went under the water, his only answer as he fought valiantly against the evil, evil non-frozen water than wanted to take him down. He'd win! He'd beat this without help! He. . . .was sinking. Uh-oh. Snorting in a panicky fashion, his hooves continued to beat futilely at the water, while he was eye-to-eye with a seapony for a minute - was he going to watch him drown?

He supposed that was answer enough. If he was wrong, the yearling would probably hate him, but it was worth the risk. He dove under and swam until he was below the earth pony then pushed up from below, trying to help keep him above the surface.

As soon as he broke the surface, Dacian blew water from his nose and edged backwards to where he could at least gain some sort of footing. "Um.... thanks," he told the seapony hesitantly, then laid his ears back and scowled. "But I was THIS close to figuring out how to swim! Really, I was!"

He broke the surface again and shook the excess water from his hair. "Didn't say you weren't. I can't tell with you Earthies."

"... Well I was, so there."Dacian said, trying to regain some of his lost dignity and failing miserably. "Who are you, anyway? Is it fun to live in the water? Do you like swimming all the time? You're a seapony right, I haven't seen many of you what's it like to be able to breathe underwater?"

"I am Hoshino, I wouldn't know what it is like to not live in water, since I wouldn't. So I can't answer if it is fun. As for swimming, do you like walking all the time? Same thing. Yes I'm a Seapony. What's it like being able to breathe air?" he responded at the same pace he had been questioned at.

He blinked, surprised. "It's hard to?" he asked. It didn't seem that difficult to him. He moved like a current. Best thing then was to ride it.

"I dunno, no-one has yet, so I thought it was," Dacian said,shrugging and treading water a little bit. "Maybe that means other ponies are just stupid?"

"Or maybe," Dacian began, thinking hard for a moment. Thinking was difficult for him, he was more an act-first-think-afterwards-if-necessary type of pony. Maybe you're just really, REALLY smart," he said, beaming at his own cleverness. "My name's Dacian!"
