As the summer was beginning to come to a close, Cheshire decided on a visit to the Meadow Lake for a little bit of relaxing and a little bit of fun in the water. Or maybe just a lot of relaxing. The ambient sounds of nature around the lake had always been soothing to Cheshire.
He comes trotting happily into the area, scoping it out to see if there were any other herla to be seen. Slightly saddened by there not being anyone else he convinces himself that it'll make it easier to relax out here that way.
The striped herla comes up to the waters edge, lowering his head and closing his eyes for a long, deep drink of the cool, clean water. He actually gets lost in thought for a moment, forgetting that he is still drinking and sucks up a minnow. Both shocked, surprised, and in a bit of pain he begins cough and sputter, trying to dislodge the wriggling minnow in his throat.

Emilias felt the cool breeze of the upcoming fall brush against her fur gently. She smiled lightly, shielding herself from view by distorting the light around her, a habit she's had ever since she was a fawn. And especially now that she's left the deep forest where she was born, and alone without her brother.
However, as she made her way toward the lake for a drink, she spied Cheshire, that strange illusionist who could make himself invisible too. She blushed a bit, glad her stealth mode kept her from sight. Her brother had always told her there used to be lots of herla like them that would run around invisible, and she wondered if Cheshire was like those Herla from her brother's stories... Though he used water to make illusions, while she used the sunlight.
She watched him briefly, until she heard him sputtering and coughing. Worried, she got closer to him and revealed herself. "Are you okay, Chesh?" she asked him

Choking, gasping, and sputtering were Cheshire's only answers to Emilias. Panicked from the sudden minnow in his throat, he thinks swiftly of a way to dislodge the minnow that is slowly suffocating him. Nimbly, he leaps a couple of feet into the air and turns up-side-down in mid-air, only to come crashing back down to earth. Thankfully, the small little minnow is rocketed from Cheshire's throat at incredible speed from the air suddenly leaving his lungs. The poor little minnow manages to land back into the lake and swims away as if nothing had happened.
Meanwhile, Cheshire was on the ground, trying to get the air back into his lungs with loud wheezes. He looks over to Emmy and sticks out his tongue playfully. "Hello... There... Emmy!" he manages to wheeze out, "I'm... Fine... Now..."
The blue hart gets enough of his strength back to make it to his feet, his shortness of breath almost gone at this time. He walks calmly up to Emmy and gives her a light nose bump. "How's Emmy today? Staying out of sight and out of trouble?"

Emilias watched as Cheshire gasped and somehow dislodged the minnow from his throat, watching it flop into the lake. That sure was interesting, and completely frightening. He almost choked!
However, she couldn't help a small smile again when he stuck his tongue out. "How you manage to stay so cheerful after near-death experiences really is a mystery..." she said, trying not to giggle.
She gave him a light nose bump back, blushing slightly at the contact. "I'm glad you're okay. I've been just wandering around as usual, you know... just watching other Herla."

Cheshire prances happily in place when she returns his nuzzle. "I get to live another day, that is a good reason to be happy, no? And another day I get to see you! Both are good, y'know! Glad you've been alright yourself. Perhaps you should try talking to other herla? Making friends makes life happier. I always enjoy new friends, like you!"
There was just something about her that made Cheshire especially happy. Perhaps it was that she always knew how he felt? Or that she was seemingly always happy to see him, too? The blue hart really had no idea, but he didn't care. Happiness is what mattered.
"Ah!" he interjected, "I almost forgot why I was here. I'm here to just enjoy the day. Relax. Be lazy. Maybe a little bit of fun and games. Would you like to join me, Emmy? I would be delighted if you would! It'll be nice, I promise you that!"

Emilias giggled. Cheshire's happiness, while rather odd, was incredibly contagious. "Yes, being alive is quite a good thing..." She listened as he mentioned talking to other herla. "I'm really shy around all the other Herla though." she said, blushing. "I always worry that I'll embarrass myself. "
She really did love how he could be so upbeat, he reminded her of the days before her brother became moody all the time late in their yearlinghood, back when they were fawns and would frolic together in the woods, playing games. The memories flashed across her vision, briefly distracting her before she remembered that she was talking to her very good friend Cheshire.
Emilias smiled. "A lazy day sounds like the most perfect thing, Chesh."
