Duncan retraced his footsteps again and again, pacing with a straight back around a small estate that had sprung up in the divide between Dream and Nightmare Valley. It was owned by a wealthy merchant who was working both sides of the land, but worried about Nightmare marauders, so he had hired Duncan as a guard. The estate fronted the sea of the south side; apparently the owner had a thing for ocean views.
"What's cracking, Dun?" asked Adalric, melting out of the shadows.
"You shouldn't be here," said Duncan quietly.
"I'm not stealing," said Adalric. "Not right now. Now I'm kind of casing, decided whether or not to steal." When Duncan growled and reached for his weapon, Adalric put up his hooves. "Hey! I might decide not to! Besides, who talks to you nowadays? I thought you'd like a bit of conversation on your rounds. I'll walk with you."
Duncan frowned but nodded. "Walk with me if you want talk." He continued following his own steps.
"Okay! Just let me call in my friend-"
"Friend?" asked Duncan.
Truant appeared suddenly between Adalric and Duncan. He looked at them both and then smiled mischievously.
"It's just Truant. He wanted to go somewhere new."

Sabina swam about in the ocean and was a tad bored. She swam toward the shore to see who was about. She poked her head above the water and scanned the shore. "Oh!" She saw three males walking on the grounds of someones home. She ducked under the water and swam closer to shore. She hopped onto a rock and watched to see if the others noticed her.

Duncan stared watchfully as the bubbles around the mer girl gave way and she sat on the rock. Well. She was entitled as long as she didn't get any closer.
"Ooooh we have company!" Called Adalric. "Hello there, sweetheart!"
Truant turned and sank onto his haunches. He waved and winked to the girl.

Sabina smiled at the males. "Hello! I've never seen you three about. What brings you here?" She waved to the dark one.

Duncan moved toward her as far as his occupation would allow. "I'm working," he said.
"He's the muscle hereabouts," said Adalric. He stood at the edge of the sea. "I'm Adalric, darling."
Truant shadowed Adalric and stood between Duncan and the sea. "I'm skulking."

Sabina smiled. "Ah! That's good. Nice to know this place is being taken care of." She went back into the water and splashed them on shore. She giggled. "Adalric! Nice to meet you! Do the other have names. I can't call them worker and skulker?!" She came as close as she could to shore.

Duncan blinked and cleared his throat. "I'm Duncan," he said.
Adalric grinned. "He's not a talker. I am a great listener though."
"They call me Truant," said Truant. "No idea why..."

Sabina smiles. "Nice to meet you all! Maybe you ran away from your school a lot." She giggled at her fish humor. "Ah so what kind of things do you guys do on land?"

"School?" asked Truant. "I don't think I went at all... and we call it absenteeism."
And absenteeism is actually a word! WOW.
"I do mostly security on land. I work the sails on ships when I out of port."
Adalric toyed coyly with his pearls. "I... ad to my collection. And what does a lovely sea-platter like you do under the sea?"

Sabina looked confused. "Oh really Truant. I didn't know." She looked to Duncan. "Oh that sounds fun and intriguing." She eyed Adalric's pearls. "That sounds fun. I have a collection as well. I collect seashells, swim about and play with my fish friends."

"You have fish friends?" Asked Truant. "That's... different..."
"Fish are very intellegent," said Duncan.
"Yeah. Swimming into fish nets," said Adalric sarcastically.

"I have a nickname," said Adalric, nudging Duncan.
"I hear that."
Truant smiled. "I don't think you can make a nickname out of my name... Sab?" He asked hesitantly.
(So how do you think we're going?)

(Good Actually?) Sabina smiled at Truant. "Hmm. I like challenges. Truan, you can call me Sab or Sabby." She eyed Adalric with askance. "I had to your name is hard on my tongue." She smiles at Duncan. "I could give one to you as well Duncan, but I like your name the way it is." She flips her fin a bit.

"I would have thought you'd have tried 'Rick'," Adalric chuckled.
Duncan smiled. "Thankyou," he said modestly.
Truant shrugged. "Grisamara called me 'Un-Tru'."
(Any one of them that you like in particular so we can move this along a tad?)
