This book became very popular in 1960s counter culture. Your parents or grandparents may very likely have this book of prose in their personal library. The fans of this book seem to think so highly of it's writing that many of them will hand out copies to their friends in a fashion that would seem comparable to religious/philosophic texts. It's seen as a source of clarity and beauty. It's one of the best selling books of the twentieth century behind Lao-Tzu and Shakespeare.
