User Image I'm all ready, Raine thought. She stared up the enormous mountain. The Sun was glittering off the landscape, showing off the true magnificence of the terrain. white was everywhere, with a bit of green peeking through the ground. The air was crisp and she could her the wind blowing gently through the brush. "This is going to be fun," Raine said to herself with a small smile. She saw dark clouds blowing in from the east though, not a good sign. Nonetheless, she began trudging through the snow, nimbly leaping from rock to rock up the steep snow covered slopes. As she ascended, she wondered what she would find up there. An abominable snowman? A pack of wolves? A snow rabbit? Oh wait, there it was. Such an adorable little creature! And she continued on.

Hours later, night was approaching. She saw a ledge up ahead leading to a cave,a place to rest for the night. She was so tired! She spent the day admiring the snow and little animals and plants up the mountain. But now, she began to feel chilly and it had also began to snow. Worry lines knitted across her forehead, she was afraid that she would be caught in the blizzard and began making her way up there. The snow came down harder and her vision started becoming blurry. She was feeling tired after so many hours of climbing, she was not used to this terrain yet.

The ledge was not far away, just a five foot jump. Across where she stood and the ledge was a deep hole. She begun feeling a sense of fear that she wouldn't make it across but she mustered all the strength she had and leapt. She sailed though the air and just caught hold of the ledge. "AHHHHH!" Raine screamed. She was holding on with two paws but she just couldn't pull herself up, she was just too tired. She tried pulling herself up but she her paws could not find any handholds on the slick rock.

Kori purred as he rolled around in the soft white snow. Nothing lifted his spirits more than rolling around in Mother Nature's lush white blanket. He grinned as he saw his familiar float down towards him, hovering slightly above his nose.

''Come on, let's go explore some more!''

He laughed and bounced off, leaving his familiar desperately trying to catch up with him. He noticed a ledge, and quickened his pace, running with full force.

''WHEEEE!!''

He leaped, and his familiar gasped in horror, if it was possible to imagine facial expressions on a butterfly. Instead of falling, he gently floated down onto the next soft patch of snow, giggling as he did so. When he finally landed, he looked at the butterfly, still smiling.

''Oh, quit being such a worrywart! You no nothing bad will happen as long as you're here!''

The butterfly flapped furiously, not happy about being taken for granted. It zipped about, as if trying to tell Kori that he shouldn't be so reckless, regardless of that fact. Kori seemed to ignore it, and ran, forming a somersault and rolled straight into a tree, dumping a cascade of snow on his head. He began to laugh, but stopped, as something caught his ear. A sound... no... a voice?

He perked his ears to listen better, and he froze stiff when he realized what it was. A cry... He hurried towards the source of the sound. His familiar staring at him puzzled, but followed him nonetheless. When he finally reached his destination, he gasped.

It was another wish, and it seemed like she was in trouble. He watched her struggle, legs dangling while her two front paws desperately gripped onto what appeared to be a slippery ledge. Worriedly, he looked at his familiar, who nodded a silent agreement. He faced the wish and hoped his voice reached far enough.

''Don't worry! Help is on the way!''

Determination in his eyes, he took a running leap off the mountain ledge he was on, and slowly floated down towards the wish.

She scrambled on the ledge, desperately trying to find something to hold onto. She then heard a male voice in a distance, but the adrenaline and blood pumping hard in her ears prevented her from making out what he said. She then saw a blue wish appear from on the ledge and grab her paw. Her eyes widened at the sudden appearance of the wish out of nowhere and grabbed his paw as he pulled her up. She dangled from his grasp and tried to pull herself up.

Slowly but surely, she was pulled up and she collapsed on the safe and reassuring feeling of a solid ground beneath her. She caught her breath and turned to see the blue wish beside her, just as tired from the effort. He had the most gorgeous green eyes she had ever seen and his coat was a shock of blue and white. Around him fluttered a small butterfly which seems extremely anxious for him, flying from his tail to his head.

Raine blinked at her hero is a dazed stupor, still to shocked to say anything. Then the snow started to fall harder and wind picked up, making her shiver. She tried to say something like, "lets get in the cave," but her voice failed her.

With effort, she picked herself up and walked over to the wish. She mentioned to the cave with her paw and began stumbling her way into it and collapsed in the shelter again.

Heart pounding and breath heavy, Kori trembled slightly, still trying to process what had happened. It had gone by so fast. One moment, he had jumped, his mind only set on helping the poor wish. Landing a safe distance from the ledge, he had grabbed her paw and pulled with all his might, not use to having to use his physical strength, as leaping and floating was effortless, thanks to his familiar.

The ordeal finally over, he closed his eyes and shook his head before opening them again to take a closer look at the wish. He did a double-take as he noticed the wish, her coat a brilliant golden yellow with wispy cloud designs over her back and eye. Her eyes were a beautiful shade of purple, but looked dull, as signs exhaustion were evident on her face. He felt a faint flutter, and turned as he saw his familiar, fluttering about anxiously. He nodded gently, trying to tell it that he was okay.

He looked back at the wish as he saw her shiver and motion with her paw towards the open cave. She limped over and collapsed inside, which gave Kori a slight shock. He turned his attention to the sky, noticing a storm brewing. The winter weather had little effect on him, as he was used to playing in the snow, but for other wishes, such weather would definitely be something to be worried about. With a sigh, he went into the open cave, and sat down beside the wish, who appeared to be asleep, exhausted from her recent ordeal. He waited and watched, as the wind began to pick up outside, whipping about snow and small shards of ice around.

She woke up to see those gorgeous green eyes staring down at her curiously. She got a good look at him for the first time and she realized that his beautiful blue coat seemed to literally shimmer and match the cave ceiling. With the wind still howling outside all she could think about was her hero.

She then rose shakily to her feet and faced him. "T-t-t-thank you," she managed in the cold. Finally protected by the cave, she gained a bit more strength. She introduced herself, "My name's Raine. What's yours?"

She was memorizing his features. The highlights around his eyes and his white fur on his face. His tail curled around him, a beautiful icy blue. But his eyes, oooh, his eyes. She kept being drawn back to his eyes that contrasted so handsomely with his coat.

"I'm sorry for causing so much trouble," she ventured. She was then overwhelmed with questions flooding her head, an effect of her curious nature. "What are you doing here?" Although she was cold, she couldn't help feeling excited after that little event. Nothing like this had ever happened to her before. Usually she held her own exploring by herself. She was extremely lucky to have this wish save her from that perilous fall. She thought of building a fire but she daren't say it, for it would have involved venturing in the snow again for wood.

Startled by the response, Kori blinked, unable to speak. When he noticed her study him so intensely, he blushed furiously, not used to such attention, especially from a female. Those eyes... those beautiful purple eyes, filled with such gratitude and appreciation. He couldn't bare to keep looking at her, and turned his head away embarrassed, pawing at the ground.

''M-my name's Kori.''

He glanced up again, and noticed her still watching him. He quickly looked away again, and his familiar watched him curiously, wondering the cause to the sudden change in his behaviour, as he was always cheerful and outgoing, never really the shy type. When he finally mustered up the courage, he took a deep breath and faced her.

''It-It's no problem. I just happened to be in the area... and it's alright. It's really dangerous for wishes to be so high up in the mountain, especially during a storm...

He finally felt himself calm down slightly, and began to smile, remembering the reason why he was in the mountains.

''Well, for me... I guess you could say I'm used to this weather. I live for the Winter season!''

He beamed as his familiar rolled its eyes.

''And it's not as dangerous for me, since I have a familiar.''

He turned to his familiar and grinned, who only huffed, unappreciated given recognition only to be taken advantage of later. Kori then turned back to Raine, cocking his head. He was curious as to why she was here in the first place. Noticing slight discomfort in her, he was wondering why she would come here if she wasn't prepared for the cold. Was she looking for something? Someone? He decided it would be best to ask her.

''So... Raine... why are you here? Are you looking for something? Someone?''

Kori felt bad, as he knew she was probably cold, but couldn't do anything about it. He glanced again at the opening of the cave again. The storm was as furious as before, but it would still be pretty risky, as both were still slightly tired from their recent ordeal. He pondered what to do.

Well, he's a friendly type, she thought. His face turned an adorable pink as he turned away. I think I'm scaring him, she thought. She smiled inwardly at how uncomfortable he was. According to him, this was his element, not a surprise to her.

"Hello, Kori! Maybe I should have taken a bit more care when I decided to climb this mountain... But I guess I was too excited with the prospects of such a wintry adventure," she explained.

Her eyes twinkled with enjoyment of this adventure. She saw his quizzical look and proceeded to further explain herself. "I'm the adventurous type. I love exploring new terrain and taking risks is my middle name. I'm not looking for anyone or anything in particular, just looking for an enjoyable time learning new things and discovering the world I live in," she beamed.

Raine was welcome to a companion to her adventure, especially one with such familiarity and expertise in such conditions. She then turned her gaze on his familiar, a curious little flutter. She had an adopted sister who had a butterfly familiar as well, but she was a ghost and was usually floaty with or without it. "This familiar of yours, what a curious little creature! The abilities it projects on you are quite remarkable, of which I do owe my life," she gave the little flutter a small nod in gratitude.

"I am really glad the two of you came along when you did," giving Kori a shy smile.

She then turned to look at the interior of the cave, taking in her surroundings for the first time. After that ordeal, she wasn't exactly concentrating on the view. Other than him, she thought. But she cast aside that errant thought as she saw the sight before her.

The cave was stunning.

The ceiling was covered in icicles and the walls were also ice. The icicles themselves seemed to glow with their own mysterious light. She began wandering further into the cave and eager to find out what lay inside,

His ears perked as he heard her speak, and he turned to face her, smiling as he heard her say she was exploring the mountain out of curiosity. He was glad he wasn't the only one who did things just on a whim because it seemed exciting.

''I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes doing things just because they seem fun!''

He laughed, and his familiar huffed again, obviously annoyed with his carefree behaviour. It turned its attention to Raine as she thanked it, and the butterfly fluttered about happily, glad that SOMEONE actually appreciated it. Kori grinned, and swatted a paw playfully at it.

''Yup! My faithful familiar. I think it was a gift when I was just a baby, but I don't really remember. It's saved me quite a few times.''

The familiar flapped about annoyed.

''Oookay... a lot... pretty much every day.''

The familiar squeaked faintly, as if satisfied with the answer. Kori laughed again, and nudged his nose against it, and the familiar gently landed on his nose, wings folded. He heard Raine thank him, but was slightly preoccupied with playing with his familiar. When he sneezed and shook the familiar off his nose, he noticed that Raine wasn't beside him anymore. He blinked, wondering where she could be, and noticed her wandering deeper into the cave. He blinked. She wasn't kidding when she said she loved to explored.

Kori turned his attention to his familiar, who only squeaked softly, as if shrugging its shoulders. Well... at least he didn't have to venture outside to go hunting for firewood, he thought. Without another word, he bounded after Raine.

Raine giggled as she saw Kori playing with his familiar. I sounded wonderful, the idea of having someone always around to play with and talk to. She sighed, it was a beautiful dream, having a dreamy look in her eye. But of course she turned away from Kori before she made that face, it was extremely embarrassing.

She continued on into the cave, wondering what lay ahead. She heard Kori bound after her into the cave, turning to see his butterfly flutter around his head playfully and a sweet smile spread across his face. Raine turned her eyes ahead, not wanting to get caught glancing at Kori too often. They traveled on in silence, a tad awkward but regardless.

The cave was beginning to grow dimmer and dimmer ahead, but she could see a faint light still further. She was beginning to feel colder than normal and the dark was seeming to close in. The icicles from the ceiling hung lower, the shine off them grew eerie and the walkway begun to get narrower. Soon, she and Kori were walking closely side by side, only enough room for 2 wishes. The ice on the sides of the cave became twisted mirrors, warping their reflections and distorting them. Raine was beginning to feel anxious in the small space and she tried to break the silence.

"So.... Snows like this often?" Raine nervously laughed and mentally facepalmed for talking about the weather.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 01, 2011 5:31 pm

Walking in silence behind Raine, Kori looked around, admiring the inside of the cave. He hadn't explored this particular spot yet, and was glad for having another reason for finding Raine. Every once in a while, he sneaked peeks at Raine, who seemed just as engrossed in inspecting the cave walls and ceilings. He wasn't sure if his eyes were playing tricks on him, but he was pretty sure he saw Raine's coat faintly glimmer and shine in the dimly-lit cave. His gaze transfixed on such an amazing phenomenon, he didn't notice the surrounding get smaller until he felt a brush of fur and was no longer looking at her coat, but the side of her face.

Startled, Kori jolted out of his daydream and realized that the path they were travelling had gotten smaller, barely enough room for two wishes walking side-by-side. He wasn't even sure when he had caught up with Raine. Something large and abnormal caught his eye, and Kori whipped his head towards it in fear. He stared as it turned out it was the reflection of his familiar, whom he had totally forgotten was with him when he got caught up staring at Raine's coat. The butterfly fluttered about, but its reflection on the ice-covered walls made its reflection warped, showing a large deformed creature moving about.

He sighed a breath of relief, but stiffened again when he heard Raine's voice, afraid she caught him staring at her. He turned towards her quickly, and kicked himself mentally when she had only been commenting about the weather. She looked just as uncomfortable as he, and suspected she was just trying to break the silence and awkwardness with some chatter.

''Um.. y-yes, it does... considering we're really high up on the mountain...''

He turned his attention back to the path in front of them, trying to keep a straight face, but was deeply disappointed with the response he gave. He really didn't have much experience around female wishes, and now was no exception. He released a shaky breath. He just hoped she didn't think he was a complete weirdo...

Well, this is stimulating conversation, Raine thought. Trust me to come up with a stupid question like that. She shivered. She concentrated on the end of the tunnel at the pinpoint of light. "I wonder what's at the other end of this tunnel," Raine thought aloud.

The cave was getting darker and darker. Soon, she walked ahead of Kori in single file. The little speck of light was getting bigger, a comfort. They walked on until Raine bumped into an obstacle in front of her at her feet. She shuffled around with the fore paws and found that they were sealed in, reaching the end of the tunnel where the light was coming through a hole in the wall. Raine tried to see though it but it showed a short tunnel curving out into the light. Where the light was coming from was unfortunately out of her line of sight restricted by the hole. "We're so close!" Raine exclaimed, but was at a loss on how to break the ice barrier.

After a few moments, a thought struck her, "we need to find a fault line so we can crack apart the ice."

Raine looked around in the dark and saw a crack of light overhead, something she may have been able to use to break the barrier if only she could reach it. Maybe shoving an icicle into for leverage. I definitely cannot reach that, and I can't climb such slick walls, Raine thought dejectedly.

He noticed Raine also turned her attention back to the path before her, wondering aloud what was at the end of the tunnel. He too, was curious, but more so about the abrupt change in topic. Was it because of his response? He wanted to kick himself for not saying something more interesting, or less generic. He kept mentally wrestling himself until he noticed Raine started walking in front of him, as the path was now too narrow to walk together. The cave began to get darker, which only made Raine's coat appear to shine more brightly. Fascinated by this, Kori began to watch it again, until Raine's voice snapped him back to reality.

He looked around her, and noticed that their path was blocked by a thin ice barrier. Hearing her comment about finding a fault line, Kori began to look around too. He noticed her look up, and followed her gaze to see a crack of light. Maybe... just maybe... if they could get up there and get a closer look...

He knew the crack was beyond reach, but an idea popped into his head. Looking around, he spotted his familiar, and motioned over to it with his paw. He walked over to Raine and smiled.

''Don't worry Raine! I think I know how to solve this!''

Nodding towards his familiar, the butterfly began to flutter around him, and his paws slowly lifted off the ground. His familiar didn't just let him float down from high places, but also allowed him limited levitations, granted he only had 3 levitations a day. He was glad he hadn't used them up on something silly yet.

Getting closer to the ceiling, Kori noticed a small crack in the ice wall where the light seeped in. Looking around, he noticed a nice long icicle, and bit onto it, breaking it off with his mouth. Carefully transferring it to his front paws, he stuck the icicle into the crack and began to wiggle it around, hoping the levitation lasted until the ice wall gave way.

He flew up to the crack and began trying to break it open with an icicle. Oooh, I had the same idea. Raine thought. He worked on the wall and it seemed to take a long time.

Then, the wall made a huge CRACK! sound and chunks of ice broke off the wall. One piece fell on her tail and Raine yelled, "OWCH!"

She immediately curled up on the floor to prevent anymore ice from bruising her poor tail. Then when all the ice had fallen, she sat up and rubbed her tail. The light from the other side now poured in and illuminated the entire tunnel. She could roughly see the entrance of the cave at the other end in a distance. She then sat down and let her eyes adjust for a bit to the light. Curiosity got the better of her bruised tail and she turned to see the source of the mysterious light.

The tunnel ended in a steep cliff going down and the opening yawned into a giant crystal cavern. The cavern was HUGE! Fifteen stories high, one part of the top of the cavern opened up into the sky where the blizzard died down letting the wind blow in some snow just enough to coat the floor. They were roughly a quarter way up the side of the cavern. The sides and basically the entire cavern were ice crystals! They were all blue or otherwise clear, giving the cavern the true wintry feel. There was a small waterfall below where water flowed in from a three-storey high rock ledge into a pool below at one side. There was a big block of ice in the middle of the cave. From here, it seemed honeycomb. The water had dripped from a massive icicle the ceiling to the ground and where water flowed and froze unevenly, the walls of the structure were formed. The parts where the water did not flow gave it a honeycomb effect. It must have taken years for such a structure to form naturally, a true marvel! To the side of the block was an open plain of snow.

Staring agape at the sight before her, Raine was so excited! The cavern was absolutely stunning! It was beautiful, all the ice. The light that they reflected from the open part of the roof illuminated the entire cavern, lighting up a winter paradise. The waterfall sparkled as it crashed into the pool, a basin of ice. The honeycombed structure looked like a playground of fun and the plain looked like the field of an epic snowball fight. Raine's eyes lit up at all the ideas she was getting on what to do. At the sides of the cavern were a few more caves here and there, caves leading to who-knows-what other places the mountain had in store. It seemed that Raine and Kori were the only two there, probably the first to discover this place.

Raine stepped forward but caught herself before she fell down. They were so high up!
PostPosted: Sun Jan 09, 2011 9:18 pm

Kori heard a shout, and looked down to see Raine curled up, nursing her tail.
''Sorry!'' he yelled, as he tried to chip more carefully so no more ice chunks would hit her. He felt himself getting lower, as the levitating was beginning to wear off, his familiar looking exhausted. He began to chip away faster, and managed to break off the remaining piece before he fell back to the ground.

The path before them had opened, a revealed something so magnificent and bright, even Kori was awe-struck. He saw Raine venture forward and began to follow her, only to be stopped abruptly. He peeked around her, and saw that she was near a ledge. He stepped back a bit to allow her some room to stay safely away from the ledge, and looked around, admiring the secret room they found.

He noticed he wasn't the only one stunned by the sight before them, as he looked at Raine, who had the same stunned expression on her face, mouth agape at the beauty of this inner chamber. Light reflected off the icy walls, illuminating the magnificent cave and making it seem even brighter than it was. Shielding his eyes, he began to take in everything he saw, treasuring it. They had truly found a wintry paradise.

Raine was BEYOND excited. They had discovered a little secret world! No other wish was in sight, just them and the snow. The walls gleamed. She turned to Kori and saw him awestruck. Well, this must be his dream, she thought to herself. He stood there, adorably speechless. His eyes sparkled and his mouth was agape. His fur was a little disheveled from chipping the ice wall apart. She was suddenly overwhelmed with the feeling of wanting to hug him, to celebrate their discovery. She instead, tried to hold her composure and thanked him. "Thank you, Kori."

She then tried to think of ways to get down. She couldn't just jump, not only would that be dangerous but there was no way back up. Maybe if we could first get down, we can cut a staircase on our way back up. But that would require a lot of time and work, something she may have to get started on as soon as possible. "Kori, if we go down, we may have no way of coming back up. I thought of maybe some rope but even that is brittle in the ice. We could try cutting a staircase from below but that would require a bit of tools, work and time... What do you think?"
