Name: Talulah
Nickname(s): Tali
Age (Appearance Wise): 16
Age (Actual): 6
Personality:

Hopeful: Talulah is the eternal optimist. No matter what befalls her she always has a bright smile because she believes without a doubt that it will get better. For this Book Child, there are always bright days ahead and there is always something to look forward to.

Happy: Talulah is deliriously happy every day. She doesn’t have sad times. She is on the happy train 24/7 and nothing can get her down. She’s delighted to meet you, she’s happy to simply exist and she’s ecstatic to be dancing! However it is true that nobody can be happy indefinitely and any sadness that is forced upon her is a strange and painful thing, and she would refuse to admit to feeling down, forcing a smile onto her face until any melancholy passes.

Tricky: The goldfish isn’t stupid and she knows what she need to do to win the approval she desires. She has quite a few tricks up her sleeve and will attempt to manipulate people with her honest, happy face and the occasional sly words if she has to. They’ll thank her later of course, when they finally admit that they are best friends forever. <3 Talulah feels no regret for these actions. She innocently believes that it’s for the best, and her manipulation is almost second nature. She ‘needs’ their attention and so she does what she had to in order to get it

Impulsive: Any little idea that pops into her head, Talulah is likely to act upon without much thought. Often, in the middle of a conversation with someone, a thought will steal her attention entirely and mid sentence she’ll break away to put her new idea into action. She can’t seem to differentiate between possible and impossible, and will continue on with even the silliest sounding plan until something else catches her attention. However this also gets her into a lot of trouble and Talulah had been hurt numerous times.

Dependant: The only time Talulah is likely to feel sad is when she’s not around others. She’s entirely dependant on the people around her for attention and for the basic sort of care that a person needs and will do anything and put up with anything in order to have it. She’s constantly in need of companionship and will seek out even those who clearly don’t want her around. Talulah dances for the City People because she wants them to love her. Like a goldfish in a bowel that needs its owner to feed it or else it will die, she treats the city’s inhabitants the same way. She lives off them, moving from one person to the others.

Kind: Talulah doesn’t have a nasty bone in her body. While she might bend the truth now when trying to convince somebody to love and care for her, she does everything out of the goodness of her heart. She would never hurt anyone intentionally, especially since everyone she meets in instantly a friend to her. Cruelty is an alien concept to her and she’s the loudest voice in the group speaking well of even the nastiest folks, after all, maybe they’re just having a bad day?

Thoughts on the Forest: ‘Oh... I think it’s beautiful.’ – A place that some part of her longs for but she knows she cannot return to.
Thoughts of Book Children: ‘I want us all to be friends.’ – Considers her fellow Book Children almost like beloved siblings, she treats all of them, even those she just met with a certain familiarity.
Thoughts on City People: 'If I dance for them, will they like me more?' – Talulah adores the strange and magnificent City People that loom so darkly around her. She strives to get their attention.
Thoughts on the Guardians: 'Will you take me flying?' - Talulah loves the Guardians, particularily Avautrus whose wings she admires.

Physical Appearance: See picture.

History: One day Talulah opened her eyes at the edge of the forest and she was ridiculously, deliriously happy to be there. She lingered for a time, finding her feet and inspecting everything around her until Avautrus came to great her. The guardian nudged her towards the city and spread its mighty wings. While she didn't quite want to leave yet, once she saw the city she started to run, thinking it was the most marvelous thing she had ever seen.

She took to this life with gusto, exploring every inch of the city until she settled happily in the busiest sections; Cheppinhew. She loved the bustle of the market and appropriated her own spot between a watch repairer and a silk merchant. There she would simply dance for anyone who cared to watch and would hang about the stalls, chatting constantly to everyone and anyone.

With her somewhat flighty mind and inability to pay attention to any one thing for too long, Talulah took four years to learn how to read and so for the majority of her time, was unable to understand those around her. But she got by with her dancing and by simply meaning well. The City People, uncertain at first, grew used to her bubbly self and treated her with a fond affection.

Hobbies: collecting stones, cloud watching, dancing
Birthday: 20th January
Favorite Things: Ponds, the sky, attention, hugs, being around others, music, birds, sunlight, bubbles, wings
Hated Things: Being alone, being disliked, being underground and unable to see the sky
Lives Mostly In: Cheppinhew

Story: 'The Happiest Goldfish'
Favorite type of Ending: Every ending is a good one!
Favorite Illustration: [x]
Dreams: To have a million friends and dance on stage for everyone of the city to see!

The Happiest Goldfish

Once upon a time there was a glass bowl set upon a window sill and inside it swam a little goldfish that was always filled with joy. Whenever her owner tapped a finger against her glass home she flicked her tail happily and darted over. She would press her mouth against the cool surface and mimic the kisses she had seen the large beings around her give one another.

When they came to see her she loved to show off; flashing her orange scales against the light and hiding coyly amongst the fresh pond plants. If she was a good girl, her antics would soon be rewarded with delicious treats that floated on the surface of the water and begged to be eaten.

She was happy with her life. But she had a very secret wish that had grown while watching the world beyond her home, where the birds twittered and fluttered gaily. The goldfish thought they were magnificent and longed explore their world with them; so different from her own.

‘In a way, swimming is a lot like flying.’ A sparrow had said to her once as he preened himself upon the window sill. Then he had ruffled out his feathers and wished her good day before flying off to enjoy the sunny morning, unwittingly leaving a thought in her mind that would grow and grow until it could no longer be contained.

As the days passed her happiness seemed to increase tenfold and she would twirl around her bowl, fins spread wide as if they were wings carried by the wind. She delighted her owners with a marvelous show; the happy little creature nearly glowing with joy.

When the time came the goldfish squished down in one corner of her bowl, let out a determined little bubble and darted upwards with all the might her little body possessed. She burst through the surface… and the goldfish flew up into the air, droplets of water spraying behind her.

And in her mind she was still soaring even as she hit the leaf littered ground outside the window.

D'aww that story ;o; !

Was there anything in particular that happened to make Talulah dislike dogs?

And how does she deal with people who are not as outgoing as her, like if there are any City People who would walk right past her dancing without looking? Does getting their attention become a challenge do her, or does she ignore them and move on to other people? Does she worry a lot of someone does not seem to like her, or does she move on and focus on making other friends?

Ah the dog thing, good question! I kind of just threw it in there as a random quirk and forgot to come up with a reason why. xD I'll have to write something into her history about it once I think on it more.

It depends on the situation. When she's dancing, she doesn't really notice who is looking at her, she gets in the zone and it's afterwards that she stops and looks around to amke sure she has an audience.

In other situations, where perhaps she's spoken to somebody or singled them out for a twirl and they've ignored her, she'll take it as a direct challenge. She'll be all 'they must be shy! that's okay, we'll be super friends anyway!' The more they seem to dislike her, the more she'll try and will follow them around until they give her some hint of attention.

The more want her to leave them alone, and if they verbalise that.... the more determined she is to make them like her. She needs that approval.

Of course if they STILL refuse to have anything to do with her, she'll move on for a bit. But she hasn't forgotten and she'll be ready to try again if their paths happen to cross.

She thinks she can get everyone to be her friend eventually, some are just more difficult than others. xD

I'd like to know more about her dancing. :3
In the market does she dance to earn a living or is it just for fun and she earns money another way?

Also, how did the City People react her to "invasion" of the city when she first came?

I’d imagine her dancing would earn her enough money to get her by. But even if she didn’t get anything from it, she wouldn’t really care, because she dances for everyone else, not for herself. I can’t really see her being focused enough to want to really ‘work’ anywhere. xD If she’s a little short, she’ll be more inclined to follow somebody home for dinner.

As for the reaction of the City People… Talulah is quite a charming lass, it’d be a bit hard for them to resent her bubbly persona all that much. No doubt a few of them would rather keep out of the way, but the majority would view her with an odd sort of affection, putting up her because they knows she’s harmless and just wants to be friendly. 83

Removed the dog stuff since I couldn't think of a valid reason for her to fear them and added her feelings on the forest guardians. <3

I selected Avautrus as the guard that took her to the city, simply because of her affinity with wanting to fly. 83

I do like Talulah very much. Good job! heart That naivety seems to be a natural foil to the complexities of the city person society. I wonder how long it will last? (Poor Talulah ;_; )

I'd love to see what might happen to a Talulah who experiences prolonged negativity. So far she seems to have been lucky - her uniqueness and her gentle-hearted innocence has kept her safe in the generally polite middle level. However, I see you have noted as a negative attributes "impulsive" and "dependent". Especially in this last word is the implication that Talulah would have more than simply constant acquaintance-like relationships with others. Will she ever realize that others do not love her as absolutely as she regards them - that some might merely be gritting their teeth and smiling when they see her so that she will not bother them further? Is this a possible progression for her?

Also, I'm curious as to how she would react if others were to manipulate her toward their own ends. She's naive and dependent - the implication is that she has no reason not to trust someone, and this just lines her up for potential abuse. What happens when she gets hurt? Has she ever been hurt in such a way over the four years that she's set herself up in the middle level? Does the pain glance off of her because she does not dwell on it? Just some curiosities of mine. >W<

Thankyou. <3

Talulah is utterly dependant on others for attention and for the basic sort of care that a person needs. Like a goldfish in a bowel that needs its owner to feed it or else it will die, she treats the city’s inhabitants the same way. She lives off them, moving from one person to the others and uh… dancing for her dinner I guess.

Now, as for the negativity part…. to begin with she would simply ignore it. She’s not stupid and she can and will notice it when somebody dislikes her, but she’ll just keep trying anyway. She expects that sooner or later they will grow to love her and much as she loves them. Or at least like her. No matter how many times she keeps getting kicked down, her natural optimisim scares away all doubts. For her to be really effected by it, something quite bad would have to be done to her.

No, she hasn’t been hurt in any way as of yet, however I would like to explore that in the future. 8P It depends on how connected she has become to the abuser. I imagine at first she would simply be confused. She doesn’t understand how anyone can be cruel and doesn’t believe in pure evil. Then she would simply take it without complaint. I can see her with a strong resistance to both mental and physical pain, though over time that would whittle away.

If it got to the point where Talulah couldn’t take anymore; she would simply be broken.

Ah, I hope this makes sense. I’m working out her personality in my mind and seeing how it all fits together. XD

Revision Needed: Small

As stands, I can't provide much insight with one word personality traits. Dancing seems to be a consistent theme with her and personally I'd like to see this expanded more into her profile.

Please just provide more insight to her personality.

Personality is expanded and I also added a few different traits and tweaked it a bit.

Hello, Ruri! Hope you don't mind that I'm critting ;u; Talulah's story is lovely and sad and joyous at the same time, and I'm fascinated by how you worked that into her personality. I like how her personality ties together to make her seem very innocent, happy, and determined to be friends with everyone (even if they don't know that they're her best friends yet).

Now for questions! Does she ever feel bad about tricking or manipulating people? What would happen if someone called her on it?

Under 'dependent', you put that she moves from one person to the other. Just to clarify, does this mean that she really only forms shallow relationships? I guess I'm really wondering how deep the friendships she forms are.

Hope this helps! <3

Haha, thankyou! <333 No of course I don’t mind, I’m so glad you like her and her story. xD

No, she doesn’t feel bad because she thinks she’s doing the right thing. She innocently believes that it’s for the best, and her manipulation is almost second nature. She ‘needs’ their attention and so she does what she had to in order to get it.

As far as she’s concerned all her relationships are as deep as the ocean and super meaningful. However their often one-sided, since she just sort of pushes herself onto others. When somebody grows tired of her, or refuses to care for her anymore, then she moves on. Also, she wants to spread her friendship around so she’s always having to harass new people… not to mention she’s easily distracted and it’s hard to keep her in one place for long.

Thankyou for the crit; it always helps me get a better idea of her! <3 I’m gonna add these bits into her profile when I get back from lunch>3<

Revision Needed: So small oh god I want to stamp right now but hnnnggggg

The only thing keeping you from the stamp right now is just minor word choice. When you use phrases or words like 'she will manipulate' or make something an action that would guide another character it's running that the other character in play MUST respond in that context. It seems so trivial but when people read profiles they can read into things like that. Just change a few of those word choice/instances. SEND ME A PM WHEN YOU'RE UPDATED so I can stamp you ASAP. heart
