It was his first spring in the real world, his first time glimpsing the season in its full beauty instead of in short moments. Though his heavy coat was beginning to worry him, for it was getting warmer by the day, Mordred wandered through the sunlight even if it cost him a little extra heat.
It was worth it, to see the many colors that decorated the meadow. Flowers and creatures he had never seemed moved about as the breeze stirred occasional cool drafts of air. With a sigh of content he settled himself down under a shady oak, careful that the branches wouldn't tangle too much with his antlers. It was a perfect spot for staying cool and admiring the entire meadow.

To Ceridwen, it was one of those days when nothing that her parents said would she hear. After all, she was smart; she could tell herself what was best for her. There were these tiny little creatures, hopping about and in turn those creatures lead to even smaller creatures that could carry plant pieces many times bigger than themselves, and that interested the fawn very much. She wanted to know more about them, but as always she was not allowed to do anything of interest. What could a little walk hurt? And what her parents didn’t know couldn’t hurt them. So like any other curious fawn, she decided to follow them. While it had taken her a while to follow them, it didn't take her long to realize that she now had no idea where she was. It was then that Ceridwen began to wonder if she had been right in thinking such a thing at all.
The meadow she stood in was nice, but it was much too open. Several times the young one blinked as she gazed around the meadow, trying to decide which way she had come from. It was not something that was easily remembered since her nose had been to the ground much of the entire time that she had been following the very small creatures with such incredible strength. The fawn stared off into the distance with a quizzical expression on her soft face.Out of frustration she folded her legs underneath her and let out a loud sound of displeasure. She would figure this out, without calling for her mother or father. She could find her own way home. She just had to think about it. After all, she was smart.

Mordred had begun to dose in the warmth, unable to stay awake in such a peaceful and cozy place. He had finally give in and settled his head on his front hooves when a loud noise instantly washed away his lethargy. Before he realized it he was standing, scanning the fields of swaying flowers for the cause of the distressing noise. He snorted and carefully walked among the patches of grass and colorful flowers, moving as quietly as he could so he might hear the noise again. But it never sounded and he began to grow worried.
Quickening his pace, Mordred began to roughly canvas the area in the direction he heard the noise. It was an inconsistency in the coloration of the flowers, that he almost passed over, which caught his attention. Carefully moving towards the patch of pale purple and blue he suddenly remember he could speak. "Hello? Are you.. hurt?" It was a weird thing for him to ask, for back home such things were never asked or told.

So lost in thought was this young one that she failed to notice the buck that had come up next to her. So lost was she that she had failed to notice much else besides the buzzing thoughts that scurried through her head on how to get home. "Maybe... go that way?" Pondered the lovely little fawn. A voice broke her concentration, Ceridwen jumped her to her hooves and turned to face Mordred. At first she was frightened of him, because he had simply appeared out of nowhere. Or at least what she thought to be nowhere. For a moment it appeared that she would run on those shaking legs of hers, but upon further examination of him, she decided that she wasn't scared of him. He had just startled her. That was all. Her muscles relaxed and the shaking in her legs ceased almost altogether. "Ceridwen hurt?" The fawn thought about it for a moment and looked down at her chest, her legs and hind quarters. She blinked a couple of times and shook her head. "Uh-uh. No in-injawries." Clearly the small female was pleased with herself, having mastered such a large word before her siblings.
"You... hurt?" Now it was her turn for questions as her eyes grew wide and trailed curiously over his cheek. Carefully she took several steps towards him, her eyes did not leave his face.

Mordred stepped back, surprised by the size of the herla. A fawn then, he'd never really seen one before. It was quite amazing he could see her now, she was so small. When she spoke he couldn't help but lean down and inspect her visually. Why else would she had made that noise? "I am fine. These are scars. That is, injuries from long ago." She was surprisingly alert for one so young, but the sound she had made still troubled him. "Were you the one that cried out?" His ears turned, as if searching for another sound or voice incase it hadn't been her.

"Scars. Long ago...injawries..." The little fawn chewed on this for a moment. She had once gotten a scrape, but it had never left a mark like that. She pulled her leg up, looking for any sign that the scrape may have become a scar. It looked just like her leg before she had gotten her scrape and for that she was relieved. Ceridwen tilted her head in response to his question. Cried out? For a moment she had forgotten why it was she was talking to this large, scarred hart. Blue eyes looked down, her ears flattened and she pawed at the dirt sheepishly before nodding her head. "Uh-huh.."

Mordred sighed with slight relief and turned his full attention on this small being. Finding her had been a hard task, finding another and keeping tabs on her would have been quite difficult. "Why did you cry out?" He frowned, she obviously wasn't hurt but there were many reasons why a youth would yell. Though he knew none of them, but he could guess.
Leaning is head down, careful not to scare her too much with the rattle of his chains, Mordred attempted to make himself appear a bit smaller without sitting down. "Are you lost?" It was the only rational answer he could come up with. He had gotten lost many times his first month in this land, there was no telling how hopelessly confused a small fawn could get in such a big place.

She had opened her soft maw to speak only to be startled back into silence. Without so much as even giving her a chance to speak, he had known her problem. How was it that adults did that? They always knew just what was wrong. And since they always knew what was wrong, they must also know how to fix it. That was the only logical explination. Adults knew what was wrong so they just had to know how to fix it too. Otherwise, what was the point in knowing?
Once more she pawed at the dirt and nodded her head. "Uh-huh..." She looked up at him with large, nervous eyes. She wasn't so much worried about him, he didn't scare her at all. He looked different than her family, but he didn't look so scary. She just didn't want to get into trouble. "Bugs..." She started. "I chased bugs away from home."

Alert and investigating, this herla was quite intelligent for her age. Or at least Modred thought. "I see. Hm.." The child seemed ashamed, she probably not supposed to leave the area her family was in. He should probably get her back soon before they noticed, though he doubt he parents would be as harsh has his had been. "Where are you from, then? Or a landmark you can remember?" If it came to it, he could simply take her to where the mass of thickets had been and see if she could find her way from there.

Ceridwen, despite the fact that she wanted to figure things out for herself, was happy to have the help of an adult. Idea's always came quicker to her mind with a little prodding and this adult seemed good at poking around for important information. Mordred, despite his appearance seemed like a very nice hart, especially since he was taking time out of his busy adult day to talk to her and help her solve her problem. Excitedly her tail swayed behind her. "Ah~! Wet! Wet!" She nodded her head and took two excited steps toward Mordred. "It's big water! Water! Lake! Yes, yes!" She lived with her family at a lake.

He stayed silent as the small herla began deducing where she lived, giving a nod of approval when she came to her conclusion. "You have not strayed too far if that is where you started from, your parents shouldn't be very worried." He picked his head up and looked to the sky, finding the position of the sun and reoriented himself. "Let us go in this direction, then it is not too far but if you need a break speak up."
Mordred strode forward, waited for her to get the idea and catch up, then walked along mostly behind her. It would be troublesome if she followed him instead, he might lose her in this tall grass if she couldn't keep up. "What did you say your name was again, young one? I am Mordred."

The small fawn's ears perked up happily. It was a relief to know that she wasn't as far away from home as she had originally thought. It was even better that this adult did indeed know the way home and was going to help her get there. Merrily Ceridwen trotted forward, tossed a quizzical look back with a small after thought of the strong bugs that she had followed but thought nothing more of it and went on. "O-okay." She murmured. Chances were good that she wouldn't need a break, but she had walked rather far and walking back was always the hardest part of any trek.
She strode along now at a steady pace for someone with such short legs and to Mordred it might have been less than a walk and more of a tip toe. But she tried her hardest to keep a brisk pace. "Mordred." She paused for a moment and looked back at him, a curious expression on her face. Ceridwen thought it over. She liked that name. It did not sound a thing like the names that she had heard her mother or father call each other. It was different in the sense that it had a sort of strength to it. Just as suddenly as she had stopped she started to move again, only this time she took several steps, jumped a bit and then took a few more steps and repeated the process. "I like Mordred!" She seemed delighted by the name and once the novelty of it had worn off, which only took about twenty paces, she stopped once more. "My name? My name is Ceridwen."

Fawns were quite interesting, they found almost anything entertaining and their attention span was only a minute at most. "It is nice to meet you, Ceridwen." At all her stops and starts he just kept on walking, slow and leisurely, knowing she would quickly catch up. "You have a beautiful name. It fits you." He didn't know what else to say, so he looked forward and stayed silent.
Out of nowhere he jumped, a much bigger version of what Ceridwen had been doing previously. "Hm. We still have a bit more to go, I cannot yet see the lake." He turned a curious red eye to the fawn again as a question popped up. "Have your parents taken you swimming?"

"Nice to meet Mordred!" The fawn exclaimed while she trotted alongside Mordred. She tilted her head and watched him. She was pretty sure that he father had called her mother that before and while she wasn't sure exactly what it meant, it had always pleased her mother to hear. So, with that in mind, the fawn was pleased. "Ah!" She turned her face away as she had seen before when her father would say it and looked over at him through her lashes. "Thank you."
Things had been going along fine until the large hart jumped. In turn Ceridwen jumped and when she jumped, she had jumped back to stare at him as if something were wrong. Momentarily she shook because all her muscles had locked, but once she realized that there was nothing to be worried about, she relaxed. "Sw-swimming?" She shook her head vigorously. "Uh-huh. Play in the wet, but not too far."

Mordred found the youth's actions rather odd but he said nothing. It could actually be quite normal of a thing and this being the first time he's met one he wouldn't know. Yes, he would have to factor this kind of thinking into this entire day later when he thought about it all.
"Ah, so you've been in the water then. It is nice, isn't it? I have heard that there are herla that live in the lake that appear to be monsters but are quite companionable." There were actually quite a lot of strange herla around this area and he hoped that she was finding them as interesting as he did. She in fact was a strange one, colored like the rainbow with wings like a butterfly.
Pulling his mind out of this odd line of thought he returned his attention to the yearling. He had limited experiences with herla, not being a very social creature himself, but attempted to not appear too stoic to this child. "Ceridwen, what is your favorite thing to do?" It was a stupid question to him, but it was worth a shot.
