Jasper gazed out of the van's window with his goldenrod colored eyes. Everything outside was always so much different when you knew you were being transported to yet another owner, to yet another mystery. Usually on days such as this he would gaze across the field and marvel in the beauty of the changing leaves of the aspen trees, setting the horizon afire with their vibrant colors. But today he couldn't. He was too on edge to marvel at anything today except for how raw his lip felt from him constantly biting it. When the slave holders looked at him funny he stopped biting his lip and tried to make it look like he was paying attention to the outside world instead of churning over things in his head.

He thought of many things in the time it took them to go from the slave shoppe to his new home, such as his past and how he was dressed, not to mention how he would act. His past was pretty self explanatory. He was a slave and had been a slave for as long as he could remember. Hence why he acted obedient even in the face of danger. He knew better than to crumble under a beating. He knew to keep his mouth shut most of the time and just do what the masters said so he didn't get killed. Yes, he wanted to speak about what he was passionate about, like music and drawing, but who would want to hear interesting things like that from a slave? His dressing style was what went through his mind afterward. He looked down unto his clothing. Right now he was wearing a leather choker that covered up some of his scars and also a vest that was made out of some think but shiny material. He liked this vest, it helped accentuate his waist and shoulders. Next came the pants, well they were just regular ripped up jeans. He had gotten most of his clothing from previous masters, but the slave shoppe he was located in previously also bought him some clothes so he wouldn't seem so grungy. Looking healthy was crucial to them.

As they rolled up to a castle he thought about how he should act. It was quite a challenge because some masters wanted a puppy and others wanted some one more assertive. In all reality Jasper was more of a quiet guy who thought too much. He could act though so as to not get hurt or to please his master. He figured he would just be his quiet and timid self until he knew what the master wanted otherwise. As they stopped in the driveway the slave holders grabbed him by the arms and helped him out of the van. It wasn't so much as to be polite as it was to make sure he didn't run. He had never ran before and didn't know why these guys thought he would, but he endured it with a nod. He walked toward a menacing door with the holders in tow and began to sweat, it was the time of truth. He swallowed loudly and began to shake when the slave holders knocked on the door.

Max nervously paced through the kitchen of his castle, his mind a blur of thoughts and worries as he awaited the arrival of his new companion. He wanted to have the castle completely redone by the time Jasper was dated to be shipped to him, but his money hadn't lasted out. He new there was another treasury room somewhere in the castle but it was probably in the dungeon and that was one place he tried very hard to stay away from. So already part of the perfection he had wanted was tarnished. The kitchen, dining room and living room were all nice and refurbished with Victorian style furniture. One bedroom was completed, the theme blue and also Victorian. And then a bathroom had been installed with indoor plumbing and everything. But that was it. There were still many more rooms in the castle that were empty, falling apart, gloomy, and just utterly horrible. The next room he had been planning to redo was the library. As it was, one section of shelving had collapsed and the books were dusty, molding, bug-eaten, and falling apart.

In Max's mind, Jasper wouldn't mind him as much as long as the house was nice. But the house wasn't perfect yet so that just give someone another reason to hate him. Biting his lip, a voice played over in his mind that only he could hear, hissing, "Get ready, Max... Your slave is here. He looks scared already. Heh... He'll hate you just like everyone else. You're a disgusting creature. What makes you think you can keep someone here to keep you company? If you're lucky, maybe he'll pity you..." Max had dubbed the voice Clone, and Clone wasn't the best conversation. He loved to insult and talk about horrible, gruesome things like murder.

"You're going to be good," Max instructed, attempting to be stern as he heard the knock on his door. Still feeling nervous, he literally ran to the door, his movements surprisingly lithe and graceful despite his patchwork quilt of a body. He had paid for Jasper online, so he had no paperwork or anything to sign. So there was no problem as he opened the door, hiding behind it and just letting his hand flash out to grab Jaspers wrist, swiftly pulling him inside the castle and shutting the door in the guards' faces. He spoke quickly and nervously. "You're Jasper, right? I'm Max. Please don't scream. I'm not a zombie and I don't want to eat your brains. Sorry about the house, it's not done yet. Are you okay? They didn't hurt you, did they? I know they can be cruel, right? I've heard stories about slaves and slaves shops... Are you okay? Hungry? Do you want to see your room?" He paused from his babbling to take a deep breath through his mouth, the stitches on his face stretching his skin slightly.

Jasper was still trembling and wondering how to act when the door opened. He snapped his eyes to where a head should have appeared, but instead felt a cool grasp drag him through the slit of the doorway. He barely managed not to get his horns banged up on the frame of the door before someone closed the door. He felt scratches on his arms from where the guards had held onto his arms, but ignored it. Right now he was trying to see who was talking to him and where he was. Well obviously he was in the castle, it had a bit of a musty smell, but it also curiously smelled like paint and cleaning supplies. He reverted his attention from the castle and onto the person talking to him. His eyes widened a bit at the sight of him. Max, as he said he was called, was a patchwork quilt of a human. Parts of his skin were different tones and put together with stitches. His face was beautiful but eerie at the same time. With eyes comparable to pools of oil and a face as pale as snow, but his mouth and eye socket seemed to have been stitched together with precision and grace. He watched and listened intently as Max spoke to him. His tongue was also black. His mind went rampant with what he could be if he wasn't a zombie, but then again he was to pretty and put together to be a zombie.

Jasper spoke softly and evenly when Max paused in his talking. "Yes, My name is Jasper. I am quite alright and i don't think you are a zombie." He looked around a bit and wondered what he meant by "the house wasn't finished". It seemed beautiful to him. It was furnished with beautiful Victorian style furniture and had a homey feel to it. He purposefully ignored the question about if they hurt him, these ones didn't but he didn't know if he was talking about at this moment or his past. He would rather not talk about things like that, they tend to have a depressing effect on people. Instead of talking he marveled at what his new master was and why he was so nervous. None of his previous masters had ever been nervous. Cruel and assertive, yes. Nervous and babbling, never.

Golden tone eyes landed on him and widened a bit, but Max was glad to see there was no fear in them. No screaming, no flinching back in horror, no orders to grab machine guns to stop the beginning to the zombie apocalypse. Max let out a small laugh of relief, relaxing a bit but he seemed no less nervous. "Ah... W-Well, I'm glad that's cleared up then..." he murmured, also happy that Clone didn't cut in with any of his comments. Not being around people, Max had yet to figure out he was the only one that could hear the rasping, hissing, often cynical voice. "So... You're here safe and sound, yes? Good, good..."

Clearing his throat slightly, Max thought it would be a good idea to get a tour or the castle in order. Or at least the finished parts. "Um... Your room is upstairs if you want to follow me..." He started off, hoping Jasper was following but he didn't want to be rude by checking behind him to make sure until he had come to the bedroom and opened the door. Inside the Victorian style continued with a large, canopy bed, an oak wardrobe with large, matching bookcase filled with leather-bound books that had no titles. But the best part, at least in Max's opinion, was the large bay window that overlooked the courtyard of the castle.

"It's... Blue. I don't know if you like blue. If not, I can always redo one of the other rooms your favorite color if you want. I'm sorry about the books, too... I didn't know they were all blank until they came in but I'm sure there's something readable in the library down the hall, m-maybe... Um... My room is across the hall should you ever need me, but it's not decorated and it's half-way falling in." He let out a small laugh, moving out of the way so Jasper could enter the room if he wanted too. "The door over there leads to your bathroom and everything should work. Is... This good? Do you like it?" he asked uncertainly, biting his lip softly.

Jasper followed Max awkwardly when he prompted to. Max wound him through hallways and stairways without so much as a backwards glance. This action spoke quite a bit to Jasper and told him that his new master was a bit trusting of him. Finally Max stopped in front of a heavy wooden door and opened it. Jasper had a limited veiw at first and only saw a big wooden bookcase and light blue walls. He was quite shocked by then because he only had a bedroom once before, and it was a quaint little room that barely contained his bed. He was even further surprised and pleasurably shocked when Max opened the door and shown him the rest of the room. It had a beautiful canopy bed and a wardrobe that were both made of wood and the victorian style as the rest of the house. But what caught his interest the most was the bay window. He went up to the window and touched the crtains that were framing the window. hey were silky smooth and wonderful to the touch. He didn't speak for a minute and just soaked in that this was his. He walked up to the bookcase and ran his fingers down the spines of the nameless books, wondering what mysteries and stories they contained. He loved books and the fact that they were nameless just made them all the more special.

Jasper looked up at Max and gave him a hint of a smile, which considering his newness and awkwardness, was quite a feat for Max. "The books are wonderful and I will try my best to remember where your room is." He looked over to where Max mentioned the bathroom and left it be for now. He remembered Max's laugh and that made him smile a bit more. Max was quite nervous still, and he still didn't know why. He wondered to himself if it would be rude if he asked why. "This is quite amazing, Max, I thank you. Hmm, to get to know you more is there anything you would like to tell me about yourself?" Jasper asked this quietly in his rich tenor voice with an inquisitive glint to his golden eyes. He stared at Max's coal black eyes and wondered if he would indeed tell him about himself.

Max was happy to hear that the room was okay and as he watched Jasper move about, he realized the other really did like it. It made him smile a bit wider, the stitches on his face stretching rather gruesomely. Though he was caught of guard by the sudden question about himself. Not being able to blush, Max's face got lighter instead as he rubbed the back of his neck with another nervous laugh. "Me? There's not much to tell..." he answered honestly. "I've lived in this castle since I woke up here five years ago. I try not to leave because when I do I get chased down with machine guns, which I don't think normal people are allowed to have but they're strangely common and hurt. A lot..."

He hesitated, thinking about what else he could add. A hissing snicker close to his ear made him remember he wasn't the only one around. "Oh, and there's Clone. He voices his opinion every now and then. He can say some pretty horrible things, so it's best to just ignore him unless you hear me talking like him. Then it might be a good idea to lock yourself in your room." He attempted to give a reassuring smile, but with his stitches stretching his skin most would only find it gruesome to watch. "What about you?"

Jasper noticed that Max's pale skin became a shade lighter when he asked him about himself and how his stitches in his mouth stretched the skin around them when he smiled. It was quite a sight. This man seemed to be beautiful and grotesque at the same time...Jasper couldn't help himself but wonder what happened to him. He cocked his head to the side a bit as he heard his laugh again, it was quite unique, he had never heard anything like it before and thought of what his real laugh might have sounded like. But then again he wondered what everyone's sounded like since it was something he had never experienced. He had laughed but from what he heard was that it wasn't real and it was a bit forced.

He started biting on his already sore lip when he heard Max's story. He knew that he was telling the truth, he could tell it in the sincerity in his voice and the way he acted. But it was quite weird and interesting at the same time. His lip became quite red by now and threatened to bleed. His eyes widened when he heard about the machine guns. He understood why people would do such things, but knowing him now for just the few minutes that he did he could tell that this man was quite harmless...or at least enough to to shoot machine guns at. he felt a pang of pity for Max. He didn't remember the beauty of outside then. The way the sun would light up the world inch by inch in the morning and the way rain could make anything and everything look angelic.

He stopped short with his train of thought and memories of outside when Max said that there was another man around. He looked around and stared at Max with curiosity. What is he talking about? he cleared his throat, ignoring the question about himself. "What do you mean? Where is "Clone"?"

Max noticed that Jasper had the same little habit he had of chewing on his lip. Only Jaspers lip would grow red while his own always got a darker grey because his blood was black. "Ah... Clone doesn't have a body," he answered, leaning against the door frame. "He's sort of like a shadow but most of the time you'll just hear his voice. It's best to ignore him when he starts talking, no matter what he says. And he can say some pretty horrible things..." He shuddered lightly, hearing Clone snicker again.

"Stupid, stupid Max..." the hissing voice chided. "You sound insane you know. Did I forget to mention you're the only one that can hear me? Unless, of course, I were to speak through you. You're nothing more than a puppet, which is why I call you Max. A dog's name fit for a dog. I'm your master. I own you. You're just too stupid to realize. Which is why I also own you're little slave. Heh... You're both mine now but I'll claim him later."

Another shiver ran through Max as he bit his lip, now feeling stupid for even mentioning Clone. He also didn't like how the voice spoke. He had always wondered if he was like this because of Clone but things just didn't fit... In his condition, Clone couldn't hurt anyone and Max had woken up tied up, so it would have been impossible for Clone to possess him and force him to hurt himself. But still, the voice talked as if he had done everything to Max. "Ah... Maybe you should just forget I mentioned him..."

Jasper listened to Max as he described the man he knew as "Clone.". It sounded bizarre and something paranormal. Not that Jasper really believed in it, but his previous masters did. He gave max a confused look with his honed eyes squinting and his red lips becoming smaller. Like what kind of things? This man confused him so far and he hadn't even known him an hour. This man was an enticing mystery and something to be unraveled at this point in time. Jasper wondered how he could learn the answers to this man while being polite and slave-like.

As he was gazing at Max he saw and a shiver ran through him and how his facial expressions became contrite and confused also. Jasper had no idea how to react to this, although he would ponder on this situation when he had to chance to. Either this man was insane or something bad was going on here. He hoped to divert the attention from the situation that had arisen and glanced around the room, noticing that he had left his belongings and whatnot out on the front porch of the castle because of Max hastily dragging him into the house. He remembered Max's ramblings and nervous attitude and couldn't help but soften the thought of him as well as his intense facial expression. He was obviously scared of people and was trying to reach out and not be lonely anymore, he had figured out what his master wanted from him.

Jasper looked levelly and softly at Max. "You mentioned something about being fed earlier, yes? Would it be alright if we could eat, or perhaps tour more of your castle." In truth, Jasper wasn't hungry but thought to relieve the tension that Max seemed to have been going through.

Max expression cleared at the mention of food, Clone's odd words easily slipping from his mind. He was used to ignoring the voice and forgetting the horrible things sometimes whispered to him. "Ah, right! Food!" He gave a small laugh. "Um... The layout of the castle is pretty simple and only a few rooms are completed. My room is across the hall and the library is at the end of the hall. Either or that, everything else is useless and falling apart. You can look around later, if you want too. You never know what you may find, I suppose. Just try to stay away from the dungeon. It's the one place I haven't even attempted to clear out."

He turned and started from the room, heading downstairs. "And the layout down here is pretty open, so you already know where the living room, kitchen, and dining room are. Oh! I've been practicing my cooking, so if there's something special you want just let me know and I'll see if I can't make it for you, alright? For the most part you're free here. I don't really care what you want to do during the day, but it would be nice if you stuck near me. Just... Don't leave, okay? So what would you like me to fix for you?" He felt a tad guilty for asking Jasper not to leave and to stick with him, because he really did want the other to enjoy his time here and feel like he wasn't restricted. But at the same time, Max didn't want to be alone.

Jasper was relieved when his words seemed to take the desired effect on Max. He watched as his face became relaxed and he even laughed. He tried to create a map in his mind of the castle and remembered the directions that Max gave him, he might need them later. He wasn't surprised that there was a dungeon and figured he knew why Max didn't suggest him to go to the dungeon, there was probably many gruesome things that he hoped he would never see because he was probably familiar with many of the torture devices down there. He shuddered a bit at the memory of them and shook his head to clear it from the memory, sending his raven black hair flying around his head and clashing against his equally colored horns.

He followed Max downstairs and ran his hand along the banister, loving the feel of it. He couldn't tell what it was made of but it was smooth to the touch from years upon years of people running their hand along it as well. He thought of this trivial fact as Max elaborated on the layout of the house and him practicing cooking. He thought of what he liked to eat and couldn't really think of anything. He remembered that some of his masters actually served him what would resemble food, but didn't really know what they were. He racked his brain because he wanted to try to be helpful and came up with an idea, something simple enough for him. "Would you happen to know how to make steak and baked potatoes?" He did like those two things, as well as some fruit but right now he didn't really feel like fruit. Jasper watched as the man walked, trying to decipher his mannerisms. He walked sinuously and not at all stiff like he would have thought, which meant in his mind he wasn't undead, so what could he be? He brought himself back to reality and away from his thoughts. He just asked if i would stay next to him and not run off, not commanded, requested. The way he worded the request to stay near him gave away the fact that he felt bad, but in all reality this was quite exemplary treatment. So far he has not been yelled at fro saying, doing, or not doing something wrong. He was quite surprised by this and chose not to take it for granted. "Would you like me to do anything, Master?"

Steak and potatoes. Max nodded to the request and started to get things out before flipping through one of the many cookbooks he bought. He had never been able to eat the food he cooked but he had followed every instruction in the book down to the last detail and made sure it turned out just like the picture, so he assumed the taste would be just it should too. Of course, he send online websites say that cookbooks were sometimes bland but it was really the only thing he could do. "Oh no, please sit down!" he insisted while he prepared the food. "I won't need any help besides a taste tester."

While he busied himself with that, switching between the chopping area, the stove, and the microwave, he asked, "What about yourself? You didn't answer my question and I would really like to know." He paused in the cooking only long enough to tap one of Jaspers horns with a finger. "I've never seen a human with those before, but then again I guess the website didn't label you as a human..." He smiled with small laugh and went back to cooking. "When I first saw your profile picture I thought they were cool. It almost reminded me of Clone in a way, only your face looked a lot nicer. How did you become a slave? What type of masters have you had? What do you like doing in your free time? I'm really curious! I don't get to talk to people often, after all. I don't know anything about anyone else."

Jasper nodded his head towards Max, willing to be a taste tester for his food. He really couldn't think of why he would need to be a taste tester, since he could probably taste his own food but he complied anyways. Jasper watched as Max became a whirlwind of motion and began cooking. Japser knew hosw to cook, but he wasn't an expert or anything on it. He simply knew enought to kkeep himself and his master alive and not dying. He knew a few extravagant dessert recipies but they didn't really apply to this situation.

Jaspers eyes widened a bit at the suddenness at which he asked about him. Jasper had tried to skillfully evade such questions iince they were none too pleasent, but it seemed that max didn't mi9nd or didn't know what he was in for. Jasper didn't have too bad of a life, he had a few scars from some of his masters and had learned somethings from kind masters. To a slave that was a good life. He looked up suddenly when Max touched his horn and mentioned that he was a human. He looked bewildered at Max for a second and corrected him. "I am a demon, which shows by my black spiral horns and my yellow eyes. They are characteristics of demons, although some may not have the same horns or they may have red eyes." He had met some other demons before in his life, they were very different from him but they had the same features and also some could even hide their horns, which Jasper could not do.

At the mention of how he became a slave, jasper lost himself in his past with his golden eyes becoming distant. Jasper never knew his parents, they died from abuse. As with most slaves. He sighed and thought of the countless masters he had. There were really two that stuck out to him though, the most cruel and the most kind. The cruelest master he had, he didn't even know the name to the woman. She had tortured him and her other slaves endlessly, loving to use her hands to hurt them rather than whips or knives. The scars on his neck came from that woman with her nails as she drug them across his soft vulnerable skin. He shuddered remembering her basement and his hands in shackles above him. He tried to replace the horror that he felt with the man who had been more than a master to him. This man had soft blonde locks of shoulder length hair with chocolate brown eyes. He taught him to read, draw, and play music. He had treated him like he was a person, not a slave, and he would always remember him fondly. That poor man was killed though and that was how Jasper returned to the slave market, yet again. Jasper sighed a tired sigh and looked up at Max with silent sadness. "My story really is not one of happiness, Master. It is quite happy for a slave, but it is still not a happy one. I became a slave because my parents were slaves and they were killed by their masters. I have had many masters, some horrifically brutal." He closed his eyes for a second to remember the woman and how she looked. She had brilliant ocean blue eyes with hair that could only be compared to the night when there is no moon. She would dress as a temptress and act as a devil, loving the pain of others. He then remembered his previous master and his voice softened. "And some quite kind. My kind masters have taught me some of the arts, such as drawing and also playing a few instruments as well as how to read and write." He reached up to brush the hair out of his eyes and to recollect himself. He didn't really like telling his story to others, but Max was now his master, and he must obey.

Max hadn't really known what to expect from Jasper's past, but hearing the other's saddened sigh, he realized it wouldn't be very pleasant for a slave. Listening to the story, he felt a stab of anger at people who would hurt others. People that talked the way Clone always talked. But Clone didn't have a physical form, so it wasn't like he could hurt anyone. Max attempted to give Jasper a smile, trying to get him to focus on the positive things. "Well, those blank books in your room could be used for writing and drawing. And there used to be a music room in here. The instruments are old and could use some care, but I'm sure with the right touch you could get them playing again!" He really didn't want to be shoved in the bad master category, so he promised himself he would treat Jasper as kindly as possible.

Dinner was finished up by the time the demon was done talking, and Max sat a plate in front of him. Baked potato with cheese, chives, bacon bits, sour cream, salt, and pepper. And then a medium rare steak with a barbecue sauce glaze. The plate was even garnished so it looked exactly like the picture. Max wanted everything to be perfect. Anxiously, he sat down across from Jasper, watching him intently. "Is it... Good?"
