Receiving many complaints about food being stolen from homes near the woods, the police finally decided to send out a patrol. So here Devin was wandering around keeping an eye out for any wrong doers...... which just happened to be about any dog he ran into out here. Once they found out he was with the police they went running so he never even got a chance to question them. All he wanted right now was a dog he could talk to so he could get some information. All of this running away was starting to piss him off. The next dog he ran into was probably going to get it.

It was, perhaps, not the most opportune of moments for Brook. She was gnawing on the edges of a slice of pumpkin pie, its soft insides spread generously over her muzzle. It had recently been thrown away, and was still fresh and warm to the hungry dog. It may have been slightly charred, but to a husky who'd survived on worse most of the time, this was as fine a meal as she could get.

She had just gotten her jaws worked around a good chunk of crust when she heard footsteps, and she paused, ears raised expectantly. She assumed it was her sister, and was about to call out when she realized the footsteps were heavier than that of her sibling, and the gait was not one she recognized.

Curious, but not yet alarmed, she rose to inspect the newcomer. She was not against sharing, and would have offered a piece of the meal to another dog with little thought if given the chance. Such a case did not occur, however, for when she saw it was a police officer, she froze. She would have slunk away without much incident if she could have done so, but the sudden lack of movement caused her tag to click lightly against her collar, drawing attention to herself.

Before she could give much thought, she turned and fled, eager to avoid the German Shepherd that had come into the woods she was beginning to call home. The latest incident between outcasts and police officers left her afraid of being discovered, and she was glad, at least, that the officer was not one she recognized from the event. Now she only hoped he would not catch her...

Devin had paused in his search and sniffed the air. He smelled something that really didn't belong here in the woods, pie. Taking a good sniff he discovered it was pumpkin pie. His eyes narrowed as he looked around. He had completely missed Brook, having looked in that direction just before she appeared.

However hearing the tag click snapped his head in her direction. His eyes widened and then quickly narrowed. All over her muzzle was pumpkin pie filling. "Hey you! Stay where you........" He sighed when she ran away almost immediately, "are.... Why do they always run?!"

Taking off after her wasn't hard to do. He constantly ran around and was in good shape. "Halt! I'm with the police and I need to speak with you!" He shouted as he ran. However he wasn't quite as familiar with the surrounding as she was which would make it easy for her to lose him.

If the Shepherd thought his words would slow Brook, he was dead wrong. They only urged the retreating husky to quicken her steps, and she leapt through bush and tree as she made her way among the woods. It was true that she ran easily amongst the trees, with the familiarity gained by constantly traveling it, but it did not give her as much of an advantage as she'd hoped. Her breath came heavy after she had run for some time, but Summerwood's police weren't known for their willingness to give up. Knowing she couldn't keep this up for much longer, she made a sudden, sharp turn and threw herself into an abandoned badger's den when she was out of the police officer's line of sight, hoping the heavy smell of the predator would convince him to not look any farther.

Devin followed after the other dog and shot past her hiding spot but not by far. He quickly noticed that her scent was gone and thus backtracked. He passed the badger den and sniffed around. He picked up her scent and began tracing it. He nearly missed the sharp turn and paused just before the den. It stank of badger but also faintly of pumpkin pie. He looked at the hole and considered his options. Surely she was in there but what if a badger was too. He couldn't face the both of them.

Huffing he moved off deciding he would move off, circle around being silent, and stake out the site. Once she came out he would capture her and question her about where she got that pie and if was the thief stealing food from the nearby homes.

Brook sighed in relief when the male's looming shadow disappeared from the entrance of the den. Cautious but assured, she sat, huddled and cramped, within its depths as she got back her breath. A regrettable huff left her lips when she remembered the fallen pie, but knew it was not worth endangering herself for, and licked the crumbs along her face in mourning. And, besides, she was unwilling to risk revealing herself by coming out so soon, and before long she settled down in preparation of a long wait.

It had been a few hours by the time she finally chose to poke her nose out of the den, and she swung her head around carefully, searching for the shepherd's scent to ensure he had gone.

Having found a good spot where he can still see the badger den but not been seen, Devin laid down. It was a good thing too as he ended up in that spot for a few hours. Finally the other dog came out and looked around. He didn't move, didn't blink as he waited for her to settle down and figure him as gone. Then he would silently move from his spot and capture her for questioning.

Brook, unbeknownst to her, followed Devin's plan down the the T. It was late afternoon by now, and she hadn't counted on him sticking around. She'd expected the male to have returned home by now, or at least be out of the woods. As a result, she was more careless than she would have been when she scanned the area. Her pivoting ears and darting eyes caught no obvious sign of the dog and so, before long, she shook herself out of the den and began her trot back home.

Devin kept keep a vigilant watch on the hole. Finally seeing the female come out he tensed up. Seeing her look around reminded him not to move too quickly. If he moved too soon he would blow this whole thing! Once she was on the move, he waited a couple of seconds and then was silently trailing her. He could easily catch up or he could just follow her to wherever she went...... as long as he was silent and kept out of sight. But he didn't want her to get far, he wanted to catch her especially if she was the thief. So in order to capture her should he 'herd' her to an area where she can't escape? Or should he just tackle her and take her down? He considered his options as he trailed her.
