User ImageAs someone who had longed for a home since before he could remember, Odhiambo's favorite time of his cycle of flying and trading was the moment he arrived back in his herd's home oasis. Usually, that was all the lyra wanted, really--some time to travel and meet a few new people, see new things, and then have a place to return where he felt safe and welcome. The old cliche was right--there's no place like the nest! And usually the only thing on his mind was to see friends and catch up on news. But this trip was different.

In a small satchel hung around his neck, Odhiambo carried several pieces of silver, emerald, and amber jewelry, each carefully wrapped in a piece of green silk. He had other trade goods in other bags slung on his body, but this bag was special. He had traded for it from a jeweler with extra goods he had but hadn't thought that the herd would particularly want or need. The craftsstar had given him a wink and asked if they were for a lady friend, but Odhiambo hadn't known how to answer. He didn't have a "lady friend," so he wasn't even sure why he had gotten them. He had some vague notion of giving them to some member of the royal family, but how could a lowly trader like him get an audience with the King of Kings to give them? There were probably layers of protocol, and he had no idea where to begin.

User Image Gazing at the sky the King of Kings saw Odhiambo land a distance away, good the trader had returned. Ryar had with great disdain greeted and examined the wares of the nova trader already, how he disliked that nova so disgraceful, even worse was he hardly cared for the disgrace to himself. The mares unfaithful, and dirty so easily being seduced and allowing the faithless stallion near them, but his Queen of Queens Scheherazade seemed to enjoy some of the variety the brown stallion brought back with him into the herd and for her Ryar would allow it, he forced his thoughts away from the nova to the task at hand.

He felt the need to dote on his mate, she was perfect after all a lovely piece of high quality jewelery should suffice something make her more beautiful and even more the envy of the other mares. Not another mare would he ever hold in his heart, nor let anywhere near it.

Lucky for Odhiambo, the great King of kings was already looking for the lyra protocol would wait another day, "Trader Odhiambo," the elder king called striding toward the lyra. "Your excursion went well I trust?" judging by the small satchel around his neck he could only guess what was in it. Now this stallion, had come in search of a home and Ryar had provided it, he seemed to be a proper stallion a bit shy and withdrawn the very opposite of that nova but perhaps that may change in time. To Odhiambo's surprise Ryar made it his business to know the names of everyone in the herd even the lowest tier the commoners though the intention was more paranoia than anything else.

The king of kings knew a lowly trader's name?! The very idea boggled Odhiambo's mind as the lovebird bowed to his leader. It had been a long time since he had last been in the presence of their illustrious leader--what was the proper way to address him again? He forced back panic and tried. "Your Majesty, King of Kings, I bring back a gift I found on my travels." He bowed his head, allowing the satchel to slip down his neck. He got the strap in his teeth before it could fall onto the ground and gently lowered it. He brought out the wrapped packages and unfolded one to reveal a delicately wrought silver and emerald necklace. "I bartered for other supplies on my travels, your Majesty, but these were too fine for any other than the royal family. Please accept these from a humble and loyal subject."

Shah Ryar had a reputation for being a bit...well, paranoid, and given to suspicion. Odhiambo was suddenly fiercely aware that his leader could grow suspicious of him from his obeisance and have him executed. What now? Anuyidan' Danayi was his home, and Odhiambo didn't want to be banished, either, or run away if his life was in danger. He didn't want to go back to being a lone wanderer across the desert wastes!

The Traders reaction was very familiar to him and expected, he was the King of kings after all and he should get such respect and it was what he was looking for at least in his current mood. True fast as the desert wind blows his mind could change but not now, he was in a fine mood as fine as the gem presented to him. Ryar Raised his brow seemingly interested the regal stallion examining the work before him, one could never be 'too careful'

"From whence does this come Odhiambo I have heard of a forging herd somewhere in the mountains from afar?" he asked the trader without looking back at the lovebird stallion as he tried to picture such a gem on his gorgeous queen.

The Stallion made sure to examine the jewel thoroughly it may have or contain a poison, though he doubted it would be Odhiambo's will to make such things he'd been watching the lyra as he did all those who joined to make sure of their allegiance to him and the herd. Everything seemed to be in order he'd have it looked over by Saafir latter to double check his own examination.

"A fine piece, for a fine beauty my Queen will be most pleased with your find." he spoke as he gently re wrapped the trinket and placed it in his white robes.

Still careful not to be so disrespectful as to look his king in the eye, Odhiambo pushed the remaining packages of jewelry towards Shah Ryar, hoping against hope that every move he made did not set off the notoriously fickle king's temper. He spoke still with a respectful tone.

"In my bartering, I came across some items that no one in our herd would be able to use, but a trader offered these jewels in exchange for the items. He did mention a forging herd on a far-off mountain--these are indeed examples of their work, o King."

He'd examined each piece before trading for traps. He was no fool to bring something potentially dangerous to his king! They were all fine pieces of jewelry, wrought delicately and with care and practice. The supplies had been nothing much--Odhiambo had made sure to memorize what each artisan in his herd made and what materials they would need to keep in mind what he should be trading for. These had been things that his herd could not have used, or would have been unlikely to use. Besides, the beautiful jewelry were just too perfect a gift to resist.

Ryar gave a slight nod "Mmm," he said examining the pieces he was given carefully as he thought about a place for the items brought back into the herd, beautiful jewelry rivaling their own artisans and some heavy set gems, such treasures could be used in broaches and jewelry of their own make, others ground for medicine or by use of the priests to aid the ailing the metal to be melted and reused or simply to the mares of the herd who enjoyed fine exotic jewelry.

The King gently separated the jewelry with his hoof continuing to examine its contents. "Fine work indeed, from such a distant land, unique." he had become a better stallion ever since he those three years many moons ago, a time that seemed so distant now though he still had many flaws they were milder than before even praise to others came easier to him.

"Well done Odhiambo, Trade the remainder among the rest of the herd," he instructed holding fast to the emerald and silver necklace he'd chosen for his queen. "it should bring some joy to the herd." Even that distasteful trader had times when he didn't being back goods as fine as these, he would like to see that dishonorable stallion who seemed worse than a mare taken down a peg or two.

Such good luck! Er, it was good luck, right? Well, certainly the acceptance of his gift to his king was good luck. The Shah was known for not always being an easy stallion to please (far from it, even), and it was known that he and his family looked askance at his fellow trader, Badr Basim. That was because Badr Basim was a, well, he slept around a lot. Right? That was the reason? Not just contempt for traders in general? Odhiambo knew that it was the flirtatiousness and the tendency to come home from exotic places with children in tow that got the nova in trouble with the royal family, but he couldn't help but feel a little paranoid nonetheless.

He took the jewelry back carefully, his mind already racing about what to do with it. Well, trade it, of course, but to who? That was a challenge he would have to consider for a while. But...it would be a welcome challenge. He was nervous about meeting people, but he loved having friends. Maybe he could make a few trading these pieces. "Thank you, o King of Kings," he murmured, relief in his voice. "I am overjoyed that I have pleased you." He slipped the packages back into his shoulder bag and bowed once again, backing away.

Shah Ryar regarded the birdlike trader a bit of nervousness in front of the king was good, though everything could and usually did have a double beaning, but with this birdlike character he doubted it, but didn't deny it. One could never truly tell but having those before him slightly nervous was a good way to tell most of the time.

The King of Kings gave the trader a light nod, nothing to large just something for acknowledgement as he watched the trader take a few steps backward. The kind never had his back to anyone, always easier to stab it that way, not that it was an easy feat to begin with, Ryar being a seasoned and intelligent warrior.

"Perhaps I will find you again if you continue to bring treasures such as this into the herd." he offered a little praise to the trader.
