Fruit Punch was in the kitchen of his mother Lemon Lime's home, setting up everything he needed for the demonstration he was going to do today. After talking to Sunny Delight about her brother's natural talent with food, he had sent Midnight Snack an invitation to his house for a Show and Tell of sorts. It was a lot of work practicing every day to become a bartender since he had to practice and memorize recipe after recipe, and he wanted to prove his skills to the siblings that he was going to be running a business with in the future.
He would show Midnight his growing prowess, and in turn judge the efficiency of the other boy. It was a perfect plan, since he was a natural with judging the quality of fruit and drinks. FP had just finished putting out all the needed ingredients and glasses on the counter when he heard a knock at the door. "I'll be right there!" With a quick turn and a trot, the red haired colt headed for the front door and opened it wide to greet his new acquaintance.

Midnight Snack waited outside the door, the address having been passed along to him by Pink Lemonade. If they were going into business together, one day, as Old Enoughs, they might as well get acquainted now! Although, Midnight Snack was inclined to believe in this Fruit Punch colt's skills before he met him. Pink Lemonade vouched for him, and that was enough for Midnight.
Still, it'd be nice to meet the guy. If he was anything like his sister, Midnight was certain they'd get along just fine.
As the door opened, Midnight flashed a massive grin to the multicolored colt in front of him.
"Yo!" said Midnight with a grin, lifting a hoof in greeting. "You must be Fruit Punch? I'm Midnight Snack, nice to meetcha. Wow, stripes really run in the family, eh?"

The unicorn stepped back to allow Midnight Snack to enter the house while they talked, shutting the door behind them with a little kick. His mothers weren't at around right now and neither were his siblings, so they had the whole place to themselves for a little while. "Yeah, that's me. Good to meet you too, Midnight Snack." He grinned however, at the mention of the trademark stripes that ran in his family. He considered it a compliment that they were brought up at all.
"Stripes are slimming is what my Mama Lemon says. With these, I'll always look in shape," he said, with quite the bit of pride in his voice. If Midnight was starting things out by giving compliments, there was absolutely no way he wouldn't get along well with this guy. With a flick of his tail, he beckoned the pegasus to follow him into the kitchen where he'd gotten everything set up to demonstrate. "What kind of juice do you like, Midnight? I'll make you whatever you'd like to drink." He'd start off right away with showing what he was good at.

"Well, that's lucky," said Midnight. "My family genes aren't exactly in my corner with the whole looking-in-shape thing." He laughed, thinking about his plump father devouring everything in Candy Dandy's bakery. He trotted after the colt, looking around the house momentarily before following him into the kitchen.
"Wow, you've got some great stuff here! Is that a juicer? And so many bottles." Midnight marveled, himself a collector of kitchen gadgetry. He flapped his wings and landed on a chair, ready to be wowed. He already felt that Fruit Punch was definitely going to be an asset to their business. "As for me -- can you make... man, I wish I knew more drinks. A Shirley Temple? That sounds right."

"It's not a problem to love food, though... I just like drinks more. My Mama eats as much as a draft phony and she's not even that big. It's crazy! I guess it's 'cause she plays so many sports and is running around a lot all day." He could only shrug as he headed for the counter, making sure everything was in its place and he could reach it with ease.
Fruit Punch nodded when Midnight commented on all the stuff he'd accumulated in the kitchen to practice with. His mother had followed all of his instructions when he said he needed certain supplies and equipment, because he wanted to be 'Phonyland's best bartender' and he couldn't do that without having all the right stuff. He certainly was a spoiled foal, and he took advantage of it every bit. "Mama gets me whatever I ask for. She wants me to be the best just as much as I do!" He waited for Midnight Snack's answer to his question, and seemed quite pleased with the answer.
"Oh, a Shirley Temple! I can make that, no problem!" He sounded quite confident as he stood up on his hind legs briefly to get a glass, putting in some ice from a bowl he'd already set out with magic. They luckily had some lemon-lime soda, since they were his mother's namesake and favorite drink. He poured it in, before reaching with a hoof for the bottle of grenadine syrup.
Fruit Punch poured in just a little before getting a spoon so he could stir it up. When it was all ready, he slid the glass over to the pegasus and leaned against the counter expectantly. "What do you think? If it's too sweet for you, I can dilute it some."

Midnight Snack watched with interest as Fruit Punch worked his magic. The drink recipe was simple enough, but there was a fluidity and ease to the foal's movements that made Midnight smile. He knew that fluidity only came from near-constant practice, an ease born of repetition. Fruit Punch was not all talk, he was seriously talented!
When the colt set the drink down before Midnight, he looked at its lovely red color and nodded with approval. "It looks great! Not too muddled, well blended..." he lifted the cup and took a sip, then let out an long "Mmmm..."
"This is great, Fruit Punch. Good balance of flavors, really well done!" The grey foal nodded appreciatively, taking another long drink. "You're good!"
He grinned a bit impishly then. "Can I ask you to wow me? I know this is kind of a simple drink -- Lemme get a glimpse of what you like to do!"

Atmadja Sorry it took me so long to get back to this. I recently got a job, and things have just been crazy for me ever since. ;; also holy cow, Midnight is such a cute adult! Congrats on his growth! <3 Fruit Punch watched from the counter, eagerly awaiting the results of his new business associate's judgement. Truth be told, the foal was actually quite nervous about showing his skills to someone new. While he could easily boast and try to dazzle and impress others, he actually took any criticisms he did receive from anyphony outside of family quite seriously, because he was always trying to improve.
He masked his anxiousness with a confident smile when Midnight seemed very pleased with the results, and he nodded to the request of surprising the pegasus with something else entirely new. "Yeah, no problem! I know plenty of recipes, so let me just grab a glass and I can get started." He trotted over to the side of the counter where he had set out all the cups, picking one up and taking it to the sink. He stood up on his hind legs, leaning on the counter.
He faced Midnight Snack, using his horn to use magic to turn on the faucet. "Let me show you how it's really done, Midnight. I like to make drinks for my Mama, so I'll show you one of my favorites." He'd already set out a can of frozen orange juice, which had thawed by now, and he intended to make a virgin strawberry margarita. Without looking, he used his magic to turn on the spray nozzle, intending to put some water in the cup. It backfired though, when he applied too much force and the spray was much too powerful, resulting in the colt spraying himself in the face.

Hopelessly Pretty No worries at all! I hope the job has been great! And thank you so much, I love how Midnight turned out. ; u; Can't wait to see FP!
Midnight Snack listened to Fruit Punch speak with great interest, feeling a kinship with the other foal. He, too, was incredibly passionate about his work, and knew exactly what the other was going through -- the fretting over showing someone new his talent, the desire to impress, the knowledge that he had the skills if only he could just do everything right.
So, why oh why oh why, if he had all this insight, did Midnight Snack immediately burst into a peal of laughter when poor Fruit Punch sprayed himself in the face with the water nozzle? Shouldn't he have been more composed and sympathetic? The laughter wasn't mean or derisive, it was just an instantaneous reaction that Midnight couldn't help -- hey, spraying oneself in the face was funny!
"I'm sorry!" he gasped immediately. "Holy moly -- I--"
And that was all he could get through before he began to laugh again.

The striped foal hadn't seen it coming when he sprayed himself in the face with the hose, not expecting his own efforts to backlash on him. He could make out the sound of Midnight Snack's laughter in the background as he sputtered, managing to sit the glass back down on the counter so he wouldn't break it. He grabbed the hose again and then quickly shut off the spray, water running down his face all the way down to his hooves as he dripped on the kitchen tile. "......" He couldn't believe it when Midnight dared to laugh at him.
He had been doing so well, but now he'd blown it! Fruit Punch was supposed to be the cool kid, and now he'd made a fool of himself in front of a new friend. He could feel his temper flaring up... but instead of doing something rash like yelling or kicking Snack out of the house, he did something better. He got even.
Using his horn again, he used magic to spray the pegasus with the hose as well, effectively drenching him. He began to chuckle, trying to hide his own laughter by bringing a hoof to his face. "Wh-Who's laughing now, Midnight...? You look like a goofball too, y'know.

Whatever Midnight Snack had expected as a retaliation for laughing, this certainly wasn't it. When he thought about it later, he was surprised at his own surprise -- he probably would have sprayed anyphony laughing at him if he were in Fruit Punch's (very drenched) position, too! But all the same, he fairly gurgled with surprise when the water hit, laughter becoming a strange laugh-cough variety.
They stood there in the kitchen for a beat, two dripping-wet colts, and the surprise faded from Midnight's face -- into more laughter.
He stood there, hooting, doubled over with overwhelming amusement.
"You're right!" Midnight gasped. "We -- the both of us -- are crazy about all the stuff we do and wanna open a restaurant one day -- and lookit us! We're total doofs!"

Fruit Punch struggled to contain his laughter once Midnight had just let himself go into a fit of giggles, but it soon broke way into a loud happy laugh. Even though he was pretty much effectively soaked, the other boy had kept him feeling upbeat even through his own mistake. With a chuckle, he turned off the spray with his magic and let the nozzle rest in the sink, his mane falling into his eyes a bit from all the water.
So what if he'd made a mess of the kitchen, and he'd embarrassed himself? He felt good now, and that was the most important thing after all. The unicorn was glad that he'd gotten the chance to meet with someone 'just as crazy' as he was and Fruit Punch was certain that working with Midnight Snack was going to be absolutely awesome. "I think this is going to be the beginning of a very beautiful friendship, Midnight... I'd call you my partner any day!"
