It was another fine day in the world and Jareth, the Sapphire Bird, was resting himself after a few hours worth of walking near a crystal clear pond. "It seems as if we have walked forever, my friends." He spoke softly to the foxlet and gotling that were both eagerly enjoying a drink of water. Their legs could only handle so much for one day. "What a lovely place we have found indeed." His features spread into a gentle smile and he tucked his wings neatly against his back. Even though he was at rest, he never settled his head down for a second but instead peered all around taking in the scenery. "This rest is well deserved."

Thy Reaper

A thirst demanded to be quenched in Devil's throat and the hart had been forced to leave the comfort of his home to satisfy it. The white and crimson male walked into each new area with apprehension, suspicious of the bushes which may contain some sickly old hind come to plague him with her diseases. Other than his cautionary behavior, the hart was remarkably calm. Out of the eyes of other herla and away from the temptation of demanding their attention, it was perfectly clear that the only sick part of Devil was his mind. In this state he made his way to the nearby pond.

It was upon reaching the pond that his peaceful state was shattered as he laid eyes on a herla and a pair of filthy animals. At this he began a fit of coughing.

Jareth heaved a sigh. He was pleased with the location that they had decided to stop in. The scenery was serene, it was shady and out of the heat, the bird song was lovely--Wait. Olive eyes scanned the pond with an intense sort of focus. That sounded nothing like bird song. Not unless the bird was was choking to death on its meal, which was extremely unlikely because as far as he was aware, birds couldn't cough. The snowy hart's tails flickered behind him as his eyes panned their surrounding area. Ah~ There was the source of the sound. Another hart, just like himself. Only this one looked rather... queasy. It pulled at his heart strings to see a fellow herla suffering so. He pulled himself to his feet, shuffled a little nervously and cautiously called out to the other male. "Salutations, friend. Are you alright?"

Beside him Karsh and Kilik had stopped partaking of the delicious water and instead stared intently at the new comer. Both with their own disapproving and almost threatening scowls.

Devil paused for a moment to suck in air so he could continue coughing for a few moments more until he'd satisfactorily caught the attention of the herla across the pond. His ears twitched at the word "friend" and the hart couldn't help but snort as he recalled the only other herla that had called him such. Faking a limp as he walked to the water's edge, lapping up a small amount of water, he finally settled on replying to the stranger.

"No." He cried out in a hoarse voice, "I'm not alright. I'm very f*cking ill!" He coughed again for emphasis and stared over at the blue hart with tired eyes. Soon he'd have this herla paying him attention and bringing him all the fresh berries he could desire, if only he could get those filthy little animals to go away. He sneered back in their direction, wings fluttering weakly.

The sapphire draped hart frowned to hear such words. While it was terrible that a fellow Herla was sick, that foul language all up made poor Jareth's ears bleed. So profane! How could this child expect any sympathy when he could speak so callously to one that he did not know and one that was only concerned for his well being? "Ah, well I am terribly sorry to hear that." He called in most somber voice. Karsh sniffed the air several times and huffed in Devil's general direction. The small foxlet rolled his eyes as he trotted back to his companions side. He hugged Jareth closely without ever touching him.

Curiously he studied this buck across the way, taking in his cough, his limp and how sluggish his movements were in general. Jareth had never been one to worry about his own personal health, as he never came close enough to any one herla to catch even the sniffles, so seeing someone else in such a poor state pulled at his heart strings. Profane or not. "How did you come to be in such a state? I see you walk with a limp, are you injured as well?" Slowly he started around to the other side and only stopped a few times to shuffle nervously as Karsh got under foot. It was the little foxlets best attempts at trying to derail his overly tender hearted companion. Kilik, however, remained where he was and settled himself down for a nice nap.

Devil couldn't help but make a small smile as it seemed like he was successful in garnering the hart's sympathy. He cleared his throat, shuffling his hooves anxiously. This hart certainly seemed clean, but those little pets of his... "Oh. It's not your fault. I just have an awful immune system," he croaked.

Oh what great pain he feigned being in! "My joints are rather sore, but i don't think i've broken anything." He wheezed, his head drooping as he watched the hart approach. "Oh! But don't get too damn close. I wouldn't want to give you any or my germs or catch anything else from you." He sniffled and wished that little foxlet would f*ck off so he could stop trying to ruin his plans.

Jareth nodded as he listened to the hart. Clear green eyes studied the other male with sympathy. It was quite a misfortune that this boy was afflicted in such a way. The white buck couldn't possibly imagine what it must be like to be constantly sick. "Well, of course." Answered the hart matter of factly. "I had no hand in your creation." Jareth smiled softly and his little foxlet attempted n** at his tail hair, still trying desperately to pull his friend away. The move was bold as neither of the boys ever touched Jareth and the hart shifted uncomfortably, twitching his tails away. He leaned down to look at his friend, an anxious and stern look on his face. "Please stop, Karsh. You are being quite rude." Whispered the buck to his little friend and the foxlet huffed, frustrated, but relented for the time being. He settled himself down right next to Jareth and glared at Devil as if to say I'm watching you. He would let it go for the time being as he smelled nothing wrong with the other buck.

With that distraction out of the way, Jareth looked back at his new found friend. "I am terribly sorry about that, Karsh is a little... well-" He trailed off briefly and chuckled. "He is just Karsh." It was the best way that he could explain it to the other hart. He took a careful step back not just at the request of the other male, but for his own nervousness. "So-sore?" Confused, the buck canted his head and frowned. "You injured yourself in the past then?"
