The sun was high in the midday sky as Yonak perched above the river. It's light sent a glare over the water as it moved in its gentle current. The weather was crisp, but no where near the cold Yonak associated with home. Yonak took a breath, steadying himself to focus. The river was readily populated with large fish, and rivers were his specialty. The korliyo had found a wonderful perch atop a fallen tree. He had followed it out to the middle of the river and there he sat in waiting. Soon, a sizeable catch began his way. The korliyo tensed, readying. Just a little closer... A crack resounded as out and through the water there shot a frozen spike. Yonak called it an ice spear. With a satisfied and proud smile he plucked the fish from the ice spike, and made his way to the riverbank. Now just to build a fire, and he'd have quite the meal, all to himself..

It was only early afternoon, but Aquila was already getting into trouble. The crisp air prevalent during this time of year made her restless. She had stolen away from her pride early in the morning for some fun. For the last few hours, she had picked her way along the river bank with only the glaring sun above keeping watch. Today she had ventured further than she had ever dared, and her surroundings were foreign and new.
Aquila was accustomed to playing by herself and thus was very skilled at finding excitement in the mundane. When poking around in the water became monotonous, she selected a particularly robust fish swimming with the current and decided to race. Sprinting with all of her might, she bounded after it, choosing a sturdy tree overhanging the creek as the finish line. Her aquatic opponent proved to be quite worthy, and before she knew it she was no longer paying attention to anything else at all. Right before she finally overtook first place, a crack split the air. The sudden noise startled her so much that she lost her footing and tumbled into the shallows with a splash.
Now dripping wet, the little cub righted herself and glanced around hastily. At last, her gold eyes fell on Yonak. She had been so absorbed in her game earlier that she had completely failed to notice the ice fisherman. Oops. Acting as though he had embarrassed her on purpose, she huffed and called out to him with a single accusatory, ”HEY!”
