Damien was out again tonight. Just like every other night. It was the routine that helped him. It gave some order, some sort of job to do to keep from greeting the dawn. There were very few vampires here, but he did patrols anyway, just as his grandfather had taught him to do. Using all of his senses. The night was full of life, but he couldn't feel it. He couldn't even see the rich dark blue of the nighttime sky. He wasn't blind, but the beast in him had taken the colors from his eyes and the feelings from his soul. Now there was only duty and honor. He supposed he should feel ashamed for this, but he didn't feel anything but the bleak ever ongoing emptiness. He needed a lifemate to bring him back to the land of the living. Others in his family whispered about how dark things had become for him, and he couldn't even feel sad for himself over it. That was best left to the women and the lifemated males anyway.
Damien scanned the sky, looking for anything out of place. He found nothing and continued on with his patrol.

Sadira gazed up at the moon shining so brightly in the night sky. She fixed her braids and straightened them out after she'd gotten caught in a bush trying to help a little creature out. She was glad she wasn't scratched or hurt. It wasn't something she wanted to explain to her protective parents and siblings. She noticed the moon was unusually bright this evening, as though it signified something would happen. She felt it inside...She didn't know what it was or would be. She glanced down at the puddle before her, moving her head side to side to assess her handiwork. The air smelled clean and fresh after a freak storm. That didn't bother her though. She loved being around the water.

With the area secured, Damien moved to go back home. He felt drawn to go the opposite way. Analyzing the need, because it was a need, made him apprehensive. Was this some sort of trick the undead had come up with? And if it was, could he ignore it and let someone else get caught in the trap?
He already knew the answer to that as he changed directions to follow the pull. Damien sent his senses out ahead of him, looking for anything that could give him a clue as to what was going on. He felt nothing except for the light touch of a woman. He frowned. What was a woman doing out by herself? Best to escort her back to her family before something bad happened to her. "Women are trouble," Damien said as he shifted into molecules to get to her faster, before any harm could come to her.
He appeared next to her and couldn't help himself from staring. "What are you doing out here all alone?" It came out harsher than he intended for it to, though he wasn't sure why he cared if he spoke harsh to her or not.

Sadira jumped and commanded the water to strike her scarer. She didn't scream but had simply reacted. When she turned around to face him, she blinked, her mouth in an O form. She recognized the feeling, the energy of a Carpathian male.
Swallowing, she realized a little puddle wasn't much of a defense if someone seriously wanted to hurt her. "I'm sorry.... you just scared me."
Shouldn't she have been used to this? Her sister was always doing these things to her! She bit her lip, knowing she hadn't answered his question... she didn't want to. She wasn't sure why she was alone herself other than she needed to be. What she didn't know was she'd missed a few twigs and leaves in the back of her mane because she couldn't see them.

At the sound of her voice colors and feelings were restored. The phenomenon sent Damien to his knees, covering his eyes with his hooves. He groaned and tried to get himself under control. Things were so bright now. The stars shone like tiny suns. He couldn't help but steal a glance at the red headed beauty above him. Her hair was so red it hurt.
And the feelings! He was swamped with love for his family and lust for the woman in front of him. For his lifemate. He took a deep breath to balance himself.
"You're my lifemate."

She was stunned. His lifemate? Surely he was mistaken right? Her heart pounded and the pull of lifemates tugged. Nope. He was right. damn. She felt her soul reach for his, craving the intimacy. She'd never felt that way for anyone.
"Your lifemate...."

"I never thought I'd have one..." The dark pony stood and took her in. She was so beautiful. His grandfather would be smacking him upside the head. She was more than just her looks, he'd say. Damien turned that train of thought off. He had to focus on her. He reached for her hoof while his mind reached for hers.
The darkness roared at him, urging him to take what he wanted, take what he deserved, what was his. Damien shook his head, trying to leash the monster inside of him. He reminded himself that she was not his property and definitely not his slave.
"You're enchanting. I am Damien..." He searched his head for something charming to say. He should have paid more attention to those stories about how his grandfather and wooed his grandmother. Charm was one of the qualities he lacked. "And...who might you be?"

Sadira had always been good about not allowing anyone inside her mind that wasn't her sister. She had a particularly close bound with Aissa. yet, the moment his mind touched hers, she felt a few of those walls come down and let him enter. her blood sang when he touched her, however gentle, and she could see the crouching darkness inside.
"Sadira..."

"Sadira..." He tested her name out. It felt so right. Just like holding her hoof felt. He brushed her mind with his, reveling in the feeling it provided. "It is a beautiful name. I will enjoy using it for the rest of my existence."
His emotions were still raw, as were his eyes. But he had to be closer. He brought her hoof to his mouth and placed a kiss there. It was the wrong thing to do and the right thing to do at the same time. He knew he'd have to kiss more of her. He was on fire, just from a simple kiss on her hoof.
"I...I'm trying to be patient. To be honorable. You should be courted. I have never wanted to court a woman. These feelings are so new to me...I will do my best not to disappoint you, Sadira. He spoke to her with his mind. He needed that intimate touch. His face was scrunched in concentration as he was still fighting with himself.

Sadira couldn't help but smile at that little admission.
You're of the Phantom Bloodline aren't you?
She had to try it. That little admission melted her in a way she wasn't expecting but she liked it. She could use the gentleness he was trying so hard to give her instead of giving into the demands of the Carpathian male.
She'd even heard how the Phantom and Music insisted chivalry and courtship become a trait of their line. Everyone knew of those two.
Thank you.... she whispered softly in his mind. She even reached out to that darkness to touch it lightly and push it away a little, much like the soothing waters to heated skin on a hot summer day.

Damien nodded. I am. Her attempt to soothe the beast worked. It retreated further into his mind. He could feel her peace stealing over him. He could never remember feeling so calm and content.
His smile spread slowly, his face protesting the movement. "Thank you. What you did...it means a great deal to me." He stood, still keeping her hoof in his. "If you would permit me...I'd like to spend more time with you before I return you to your home..."

She smiled and touched his face where it strained to smile. "Only if you smile a little more. It suits you."
He was warm and gentle and that was just holding her hoof! Little thoughts of how else he would warm and gentle crossed her mind and she blushed a sweet pink shade.

She was adorable when she blushed. He would have to work to make that happen more often. "Since it will please you, I will smile more, Sidira." His smile turned mischievious and he looked into her eyes. Pleasing you would be my pleasure.

Her blush reddened. "Oh my..."
She smiled at him, unable to stop herself. He was going to be full of surprises.
"I think you're a dream......Yeah. That's it... This is a dream and you're just something I came up with."

"I am no dream, Sadira." Damien was drawing a pattern on her hoof, one of protection, "I'm afraid that I would be a disappointing one. I'm not at all perfect like a dream lover should be." His eyebrows furrowed, "I don't have a dream lover to compete with, do I?"
