Vaith regretted a lot of things, resting his head back on his bed, reflecting. He just had a phone call from home. Phone calls were rare because Vaith was more than a little distant with his family. His clan. It was a tricky issue. In order to look for his step-sibling, Vaith had to distance himself. Technically, Vaith's older brother had the better skill set and power to search for their sibling. But Vaith's brother was one of the fifteen who stood at the clan table..
..and if you stood there, there was little chance to disobey the head.
Vaith didn't regret his search. But he did regret that coming to Amityville made him farther. It was a distance he couldn't cross back. He left them to come here and that was his decision. Sometimes he just wished--
--he wished he could talk to his parents without the censure in their voice. But they didn't approve. Only Vaith's brother had given his approval. Also, Vaith's best friend. Why wouldn't they?
After all, it was his best friend's girlfriend and their oldest sister, that he was looking for.

The first day he had gotten Note. Noise familiars weren't familars you could find anywhere. Not the ones in Vaith's clan. They were born to you--an instinctive call, a shout-out to your personality and type. Vaith's older brother, Vyren, had a grunge wolf. His best friend was bonded with a fusion shark. The head of the clan has the Anguis Cantus. Their familiars were their greatest protectors, something that had kept the noise reapers alive and prospering for centuries. Vaith's one was a goth metal drake.
He remembered when he had first met Note. Note hadn't been Note then. Note was much larger in size.. and Vaith had summoned him when he was about the equivalent age of four. Summoning wasn't the same as bonding-- the contract between partners had to be established, with some degree of affinity. Following the bonding, a pin type and title must be established.
Vaith had inherited, "Velocity Attack."
It was likely because his forte was speed and agility. Note's draconic aspects had helped with that greatly because Note was specialized in those areas. It was no surprise, when Vaith got that title and pin.
"I remember when you were huge Note. Sorry, my magic isn't that great so it looks like you wont be going back to that size soon, partner."
Note looked up, from Vaith's lap, curiously.
"One day, you'll be able to go back to your original form and then some."

"Don't you hate hunters?"
Vaith mulled over that question, the voice remaining stuck in his mind. He didn't know how to answer that question. His first answer would have been agreement.. but he couldn't have said that agreement was sincere. He said it to pacify, to avoid the impending philosophical fight that would have ensured. But he didn't hate them.
He listed the events mentally. He should have. They destroyed the horsemen clans .. Well, that wasn't the best reason. Vaith wasn't exactly on good terms with horsemen.
They had stabbed Xiu at some point and then Vaith rescued her. That was a good point.
They were just as scared towards him, as he had been of them.
They were hot-headed towards halloweeners, just like halloweeners acted towards them.
His thoughts somehow wrapped to the same circle, multiple times.
"It's such a shame we feed off each other to live, since we're nearly the same as them." Vaith said out loud to himself, settling back on the ground of his dorm. Note, his familiar, gave him a loud whine.
"Nah, Note, I'd never join them. There's too much here-- like the ghouls. But I sure wish we didn't kill each other just by existing."

Vaith found himself tackled to the ground, in a full frontal assault to the ground. Scrambling upwards, he suddenly found his best's friend's face very close to his own.
"I am not gay-- goddamnit, Kaite, how much times do I have to tell you?" Vaith good naturedly rubbe dhis friend's back as the onlookers around him laughed and sank back into their chairs. It was the ceremony in which they were awarded their pin titles, so the whole clan was here.
He was still on the ground when he heard a whisper in his ear.
That's how they were playing it.
"You gonna go after this?"
Vaith nodded, aware that their conversation shouldn't be heard. Anybody could send their familiars out and they would know everything.
"Yep. Right after this. There's nothing holding me back anymore."
