Mission Name: It takes a mended heart to fix a broken one.

Number of Teams Allowed: Carmen Laurell

Enemy/Enemies: Gigantos - Melani

Reward: To help someone in need.

Images (if any): User Image

Summary (up to two detailed paragraphs):
I really never justified how would Melani get over the grief of loosing her former meister.
So I was kinda thinking she felt into depression, enough to even try it on a Gigantos by herself.
And so, Carmen casually passes by and senses the death wish on the redhead.
She remembers her from the hot springs so she interferes with the match.
Upset because Carmen frustrates her suicide attempt. She gets blinded by her despair and turns on a rampage.
So Carmen had no other option but to beat some sense into her. Before she crosses the line of no return.
Since well they both lost someone important to them. Obviously, we can't say they feel the same pain,
but Carmen should be able to understand to one extent her feelings. Since she probably went through the
same facets of depression. It's a pretty straightforward mission.

There. Ready when you are XD

It was a day like any other in the special sparring arena. Many meisters and weapons of different classes attended at
different times, yet all are eager to show their progress within the arena and improve their strengths with actual combat
such was the case of a young attendant, a first timer.
"Hi, I would like to start on the basics today please. Perhaps an easy opponent perhaps"
Replied Melani cheerfully at the people in charge of registration. So she was showed a catalogue of the current foes
"Well I guess this one should suffice."
She replied, picking over the gigantos.
"At least it wont remember it I do something stupid right?"
She laughed along with the receptionist. However the receptionist cared to add she had to be careful with this one as he
was rather unstable or more likely did not had a counciousness of its own. Melani appreciated the advice and mark on her
way to the arena.
As the steps were given father away from the receptionist, the bright smile would fade into a dull expression.
"it's been a whole month..."
The girl waited as many meister and weapons, solo or in tagging along faced the various foes. The look on her face was
expresionless yet she hid deep sorrow as she was meisters and weapons working together. Thinking of her former meister
which she lost during the attack on Death city.
"Aseki..."
The meister had gone missing, her first parnter was lost in action, and what could she do when she needed her the most?
Hide, knock herself up, be completely usseless while demons easily had her way with her until she was recued later by
officers of shibusen.
When she had awaken, Aseki was nowhere to be seen. And the patrol didn't report having seen Aseki with her when they
found her.
Up to this day she's considered missing in action.
The turn for the weapon had come as Gigantos was eager to fight. Melani was smart. She knew the Gigantos would not
hold back. Also that there was little supervision in the arenas as most of the foes. Everything was perfect. She couldn't
bare her life anymore. And what better than a giant beast with no mercy or remorse to do the job she was so afraid to fullfil
Melani stepped into the arena, this wasn't an exciting match to there was actually no public in sight. Most of them were
cheering their favorite pairs battling the stars of the arena. A mere gigantos an a rookie were no appealing at all. A deserted
arena, low to no vigilance. It was the perfect mix for dissaster.
Melani would reach the center of the arena as the doors were locked. Before her, on the other corner. gigantos awaited
impatiently, roaring vigorously and eager to fight with all it's might.
"I should had been a better weapon.... I should had stood for her..."
She heard the signal for the match to start. The beast before her willing to fulfill her wish to disappear from this world.
The chains were released and the beast charged forward the redhead, unwilling to fight. The tears would slip down her cheeks
as she couldn't bare to see death face to face. The time run slowly while the beast charged against her, rising it's
iron fist to slam with great force against the girls body. Feeling how every single of her bones cracked with just an impact.
"I'm sorry... aseki chan.."
The wounded body would be tossed like a rag doll over the arena. Obviously something went wrong with the match.
But Gigantos wouldn't stop, he was eager to fight, and the match had just started. Blood spilling from her lips as she
laid harmlessly on the ground, unwilling to fight back. This was, her last deed...or so she had thought.

Carmen Laurell Difficulty: Hard

As the Gigantos raised its arms over Melani to finish her off, there was a flash of green light and what sounded like a lightening strike. A bright green afterglow of energy ran straight down the Gigantos, cracking its helmet armor open like a steamed crab shell and causing the beast to stumble backwards as a large spray of blood exploded outwards from what was clearly a devastating blow. Kneeling in front of the beast was a girl, glaring up at it as she stood between its murderous frenzy and Melani. "I'd say pick on someone your own size, but there's no need for that," Carmen told the wounded monster as it slowly regained its composure. The Gigantos let out a roar of rage as it saw Carmen and immediately began charging towards her. Carmen didn't seem the slightest bit intimidated. Green energy surrounded her hand before she waved it towards the Gigantos in a quick stroke as if she were attempting to slap it from far away. A bright green streamer of energy trailed after her hand before it went shooting towards the beast, a trail of explosions following after it. The energy hit the charging Gigantos and almost stopped it dead in its tracks as it left a massive burn mark on its chest.

The beast had slowed up just enough. Carmen concentrated for several moments before racing towards it herself and leaping into the air. She spun around its arm as it attempted to punch her before landing in front of it. Surprisingly, instead of unleashing any kind of massive explosive attack, Carmen hauled back and punched the Gigantos square in the chest. The punch didn't seem to do much of anything, but Carmen quickly followed it with a kick. Again the kick seemed to do nothing. Then another punch, a jumpkick, an elbow hit. With each attack Carmen began moving faster and faster until she was almost a blur. After the first five or so attacks something strange happened; each blow starting doing some kind of damage. It was only a little at first, perhaps a spatter of blood or an abrasion. But soon each lightening-fast hit became a punishing blow, breaking bones, tearing muscle, piercing flesh. The beast started to stumble backwards from what had become practically a whirlwind of fury coming from Carmen. But it was too late. Carmen moved with it, her hits continuing to land until she had clearly destroyed something vital. The beast let out a groan before falling over backwards, its massive form shaking the entire arena as it hit the ground. Carmen stopped attacking and stood for a moment with her back to Melani, breathing heavily.

After a few seconds Carmen turned to face the girl who lay on the floor. She could see Melani's soul; it was a dark grey with growing tinges of black. Carmen had seen that hue only a few times before, and she knew what it was. She ran one hand through her hair as she slowly walked up to Melani's prostrate form, a friendly, gentle smile forming on her face. It was clear to her that Melani was attempting to end her own life: suicide by Gigantos. Carmen knelt down next to Melani. "Hey," she said soothingly. With a small start she realized that she had seen the girl before: at the hot springs during one of the school vacations. She vaguely remembered her, but at the time the girl's soul had had numerous flashes of bright color. She was bubbly, happy and full of energy. What had happened in between now and then that had changed her soul so much? "Are you okay?" Carmen knew it was kind of a dumb question but she wanted to break the ice somehow.

Abilities Used:

+Enhanced Soul Perception: Carmen's unique form of Soul Perception, something she was born with, allows her not only to see souls but to see the specific emotions someone is experiencing at that point in time. If they're experiencing multiple emotions she can see all of them.

+Fireburst: Carmen waves her arm in any direction, causing a stream of fiery green energy that explodes like fireworks to trail after it. This can be projected towards the enemy or used as a small shield to block attacks.

+Daisy Chain: By focusing her power into several moments in time, Carmen can begin a combo on a target once she lands a hit. The first hit has a 65% chance to land. From there the chance each hit has to land goes up by 5%. For example, the next hit would have a 70% chance of landing, followed by 75% with the next and 80% with the next. The highest this ability can raise her chances of hitting is 95%.

In addition, each hit landed will increase the damage caused by each hit by 10%. Her first hit starts at 100% of normal damage. The second would be 110%, the third 120% and so on. This ability maxes out at 200%, double her normal damage with each hit onwards.

This isn't a passive ability so Carmen has to activate it before an attack rather than any normal attack starting the chain. A miss or a pause in the attack that lasts more than several seconds resets the combo and Carmen has to start over next time she uses it. Blocking the attack or using an ability such as a shield to block the attack do not reset it. This ability has a cool-down of one post. (She can use it again the post after next)

This ability gives Carmen a strong advantage against larger, heavier opponents who aren't fast enough to dodge an agile opponent such as herself. Opponents who would rather block and would normally be able to soak up many of Carmen's hits would find themselves being worn down as each attack became stronger and more accurate than the last until each hit was doing double damage.

Done XD

Just as she could fill everything was reduced to a final moment. Thinking everything would be over soon. A sudden
clash was heard as Carmen showed up.
"No.."
Her voice was too weak, it couldn't be heard with the heat of battle just a few meters from her. As she spotted the
meister that was frustrating her suicidal attempt the redhead reached the conclusion it was that girl at the hotspring
when she hanged around with Lily. It was perhaps the second time they met face to face, but the name came right
into her mind. Carmen. She was the one that made the redhead's evenings busy at the nurse office, mostly because
of cocky meisters and weapons that thought that they could have their way with her by taking her lightly.
Why was she here?... sure she "worked" there at the sparring arena. But, of all people, a strong meister enough to
subdue the beast she was carefully planned to use to end her life. Now they wouldn't let her have a second go. It
was all over, she had studied the other contrincants and all of them had conciousness to a degree and wouldn't let
her commit suicice. Probably torture her, but never taking her life. Carmen had just blowed up her only ticket she
had to take her life away.
"why...?"
Tears of frustration could be seen flowing through her cheeks, watching helplessly as Carmen finished Gigantos.
There was nothing to be done, soon, Carmen approached her, she couldn't run, she was too wounded. She only
flustered in embarrassment, ashamed of her failure, and to even have Carmen standing in front of her. That
gentle smile felt like a steel knife slowly sinking on her throat. Melani was buried in her misery, she wouldn't
just smile and pretend nothing happened.
"Why did you do it? Y-You could had waited a little longer!"
She replied, ending up yelling the whole phrase since she was having a hard time not stammering, but her body
would soon collapse into shock. The soul was darkening as more dark spots were consuming the already
colorless soul of the redhead.

When Melani yelled out her question, Carmen gave a sad frown for a single moment before it disappeared back into her smile. "I could have. I know," she began simply as she watched more dark spots appear on Melani's soul. "I could have let you go ahead and do what...you think you wanted to do." She paused for a moment before shaking her head. "But then I would have let something great leave this world before it should have." She reached down slowly and gathered Melani up in her arms, giving her a big hug. "I know what you wanted to do. And....I know what that feels like..." Carmen had never said anything like this before, but then again she had never encountered someone who was clearly going through the same emotional struggle she had...and was. "You can't give up like that. There's still so much you can do..."

For now we should get her medical attention and during her rehab she should find a rivalry or materials to hold further grief against Carmen to prepare themselves for their battle xD

The blonde meister would simply held Melani's harmless body in her arms. Yet the redhead would have a blank stare the whole time, she was clearly
upset her attempt was frustrated by Carmen so casually. The sweet words from the blonde would feel as a knife was poking on her wounds as they
were more likely upsetting her rather than helping her understand Carmen's point of view. The stubbornness of thinking no one would understand her
crossed Melani's mind over and over.
At naked eye, it would seem the conflict was over, but an experienced user such as Carmen, she knew this was only the beginning. As the small
soul in her hands displayed such toxicity that it could be visible swirling aimlessly within Carmen's soul. Noting that the blonde's soul was way bigger
than Melani's which was easily held within a single hand.
The sick soul would continue on it darkened path, the black dots where propagating as a plague as Melani's eyes where shutting close, she was mad
and frustrated, but her body was so tired for her to yell even further, she was feeling sleepy, everything was turning black.

Carmen looked down worriedly as Melani didn't respond. She was losing blood really fast. She stood up slowly, using her resonance force to help her carry Melani as she headed quickly towards the hospital. Fortunately the hospital was very close specifically for Special Arena injuries. Carmen burst through the door holding the injured Melani, looking around quickly. She ran into one of the nearby rooms and quickly lay Melani in a nearby bed as a doctor and several nurses rushed in. Carmen stood back, letting the medical personnel do their job and save the young girl's life. She watched worriedly as they began to heal Melani's wounds, hoping she would be okay in her heart and mind as well by the time she woke up.

Better now? Then again I wonder how would miss Nurse Mortem would react to this tho XD

User Image

Despite her body being near death in numerous times, the medical team was able to bring the girl back to life in the same amount of occasions, it was almost as if the redhead fought them not to revive her. Yet with each time the defibrilator was used a darker spot was created within the girls soul, leaving at last a red looking soul with almost 100 beautiful dark spots circling as if they were rock surfing through lava.

The medical team was exhausted and had put her under surveillance after all they fought to hard to keep her alive to let her die on them because of a small miscalculation.
One of the interns made sure to let Carmen know about the redhead's condition, and even thank her for her brave effort. Should the girl arrived a few seconds later she might not had survived. It would seem Carmen had yet once again frustrated the suicide's plan B by blood loss.

By the next morning one of the nurses was playing with her index in front of Melani, moving it up, down, sideways and making the redhead to follow.
"Well, you seem good as new to me. But we would like to have you on rehab, after all we mustn't take risks."
Explained the nurse, as she proceeded to take the rest of Melani's examination routine.
The redhead would obediently follow the procedure, with a gentle yet shy smile. However there was something different. Her eyes, despise being warm, there was a deep scar in them. Of course, normal people wouldn't caught on it. Even less if there was no soul perception in them.

But Carmen could feel it... or most likely see it. In a matter of a single night. Melani's soul was big enough to cover her entire torso. It surely grew stronger, but at what cost? The soul was stained. And despite not committing the horror of eating a soul of a pure hearted, it was just as stained as any common Kishin egg soul.

"Thank you dear, but I'm sure I'm alright by now. I wouldn't like to burden you any further... please, be on your way. I'm not going anywhere I swear."

The nurse remembered she had forgot about something in the office so she had to take it back or at least find someone in the halls to go get it for her. Fortunately, it was also the time to let visitors wander in, just in case someone felt like visiting the injured. That included Melani, despite being into a brutal accident, there didn't seem to be any evidences of her encounter with Gigantos. It was almost a miracle.

Carmen was relieved that Melani was okay. She gave a small smile as the nurse explained that she would be okay. Still, she saw the change in her soul and knew that it wasn't over yet. She walked up to Melani and put her hand on her shoulder. "Hey....maybe we should go somewhere and talk," she told her quietly. "You can tell me what happened. I'll listen, I promise." She gave Melani a friendly smile as she waited for a response, hoping that she could get through to the girl before she did something reckless and hurt herself or someone else.

it's kay we can take our time XD oh oh how about this picture? think it fits her Madness state... a fair resemblance/easter egg from her original counter part (the one in Donovan's mission, remember?)

The redhead was surprised to see Carmen there, despite her gentle smile to greet the blonde meister, the waves pulsating from her soul reflected a deep grief against Carmen, she had obviously had not forgotten about her.
"Why hello there Carmen, how kind of you to pay a visit today."
She wasn't ever good at soul perception or awareness. Thus she couldn't read Carmen's emotions. But she was sure to notice that gentle tone in her voice wasn't as cheerful as always.
"My my.. you want to have a walk I would love to but..."
She paused for a moment before pulling the blanket off. Showing a pair of pale legs which lacked life.
"You see... I can't walk up straight I hope you don't mind talking here."
Replied Melani with a sweet yet disturbing voice. Carmen's assumtions however, were very accurate. She would have to take Melani outside to have that chat. Given that impression from her soul it was more than obvious to her that Melani was a timed bomb which's countdown had started the moment she saved her. The abnormal size of her soul meant she could be a potential threat within the hospital.

There was reports of her trying to sneak out, but her legs didn't seem to respond. So, how else would she do such thing? If Carmen had heard those reports, then she would be aware Melani was able to walk or transport herself somehow. There was also a wheel chair At the end of the room.

Carmen could sense Melani's wavelength like a slap in the face. "Um, hey. How are you?" She asked, some hesitation evident in her voice though it was still friendly. She looked down at Melani's legs when she revealed them. "O-oh. Well, I'm sorry. I'm sure they'll heal up soon! We can talk here, that's fine." Carmen wasn't sure she believed Melani but she wasn't about to call her out on something like that if it might be true. It was then that she noticed the wheelchair at the end of the room. "Or how about this?" She asked. "I could take you outside in that and we can talk out there? Wouldn't you like some fresh air?"

The redhead would smile gently as the blonde apologized after noticing her legs.
"Oh it's fine... the doctors say I may be able to keep them but I need physical therapy but so far we have not been able to make them move... its quite bothersome to try and walk...but I can't complain"
The voice sure was soothing and friendly, but the redhead's soul was like a chained animal trying to reach for Carmen with yearning aggression, or like a wildfire which's blazes tried to reach the blonde girl.
Just as soon as they spotted the wheelchair, the redheads soul became more menacing as a light glare was displayed on her face fot just fractions of a second before smiling once again.
"oh my, but i wouldn't like to burden you...I'm quite heavy."
There was no time to loose, at this rate any civilians may fall victim of the redhead if not handled cautiously. She needed to be taken away from the hospital. Perhaps an open field where they could talk. At least where there wasn't a possible victim of a cross fire.

Carmen stared at Melani for a moment before shaking her head. "It's okay," she replied with a smile. "I don't mind at all. You're not very big." She walked over to the wheelchair and took it, turning it and bringing it back to Melani. She was still convinced she needed to get Melani out of the hospital; she could feel the anger and menace leaking from her. She could also see it. There was not much she could do at the moment about it. Hopefully she could talk her but Carmen had a creeping feeling that this wouldn't be the case.

The redhead would observe gently at the wheelchair, yet her soul seemed even more agitated by having Carmen brought it.
"Okay, Just try not to drop me okay?"
Replied the girl with a soothing smile. At mere sight, one could sure they were just friends in good therms, or just a pair of gentle souls talking to each other.
Yet the soul perception would show otherwise.
Carmen had the deja vu where her arms were severed from her body just as soon as she carried her body to the wheel chair.
Apparently, the redhead's soul was starting to manifest it's corroded nature into madness. The timer of this bomb had just started.

"You got it!" Carmen's concern was growing by the moment as she put Melani in the wheelchair. "There ya go!" She said, doing her best to keep her voice cheery. She turned the chair slowly and began pushing Melani out into the hallway towards the doors that led to the outside. "Don't worry, I'm sure you'll be back to normal in no time," Carmen told her, hoping that she was right. "Just try to take it easy all around, okay?"
