‘There comes a time in everyone’s life when they realize they either fit into society or they realize they will never fit into society. Some people don’t fit, but they are constantly trying to force themselves into that mold that society wants them to fit into. Others… well, they enjoy being the outcast. They enjoy the realization they will never fit into the frame that society tries to box them into. They are the rule-breakers, the earth-shatterers, and the creativity in the world. They are the people who sin boldly, and don’t let things like consequences dictate their lives.
In this world, most people either have their blinders on to these people, or they seek to destroy them. They call them troublemakers and ship them off to places of cruelty and discipline. They try and take away their souls and tell them they are worthless, but they even know in the back of their mind they will never truly win. There will always be that one person who continuously defies them, if for nothing more than to prove there is a place that exists outside of the idea society sets for itself. It doesn’t matter that they label these rebels, monsters or rejects. They know the truth. They know they are really the heroes and the people who transcend beyond their expectations.
In my world, I don’t just transcend beyond expectations, I transcend reality. I transcend all known understanding and explanation, but no one knows. People think they know, but they don’t. You see, I’m placed into this special category of people, but I am even above that explanation… not that they are aware, of course. Even in this place of spectacular wonder, I am different, and I have been different for as long as I can remember. My parents knew I was different, and I think that they were different to an extent, as well…. but they are gone now. The society deemed them too dangerous and killed them. They nearly killed me, too, but I lived. I don’t know how I lived… but I lived. Now, I live here ---in hell.’
“Klaren, the headmaster will see you now.” the clerk called as she re-entered the room from another room at the back room and simultaneously broke the male’s train of thought. She was a petite, brunette woman that looked like she couldn’t scare a fly away if she wanted, but she was only an assistant to the headmaster. It wasn’t in her job description to be a bad person. In fact, of all of the secretaries at the academy, Klaren often found her company the most pleasant. She didn’t prejudge him as a chore like most of the staff at the school.
“Thanks, Ms. Valtrie… how mad is he this time?” The male responded cautiously as he closed the leather-bound journal that he was jotting in before. Klaren wasn’t wasn’t exactly what you would call a typical male. He was actually kind of scrawny, and if he was standing complete erect, his stature was still only at most 5’5’’. He was pretty skinny, but he didn’t really have any kind of muscle on him to prove he was skinny from working out. Several people went as far as to say that he was bony. His complexion was almost almost ghostly pale, except his face. He had freckles as if he was supposed to be a ginger like his father, but he wasn’t. He had this distinct, almost unnatural platinum blonde hair that clearly kicked him out of the redhead category. As if it wasn’t unusual enough though, it was this unruly mass of slight curls and waves that almost always hung into his face, if it wasn’t regularly cut off. Outside of his particularly weak looking demeanor though, Klaren had a 2G ear gauge in his left ear and a lip ring piercing on his bottom lip on the left corner of his lip. Then finally, Klaren had the Latin word, “Mutationem” tattoo on his left forearm in bold, cursive script. Overall, he had a very conflicting appearing. Almost nothing about him was symmetrical, even his eyes weren’t the same color. His left eye was his glassy, gray color, and his right eye was a crystal, green color.
“I think you have really messed up this time. He was fuming even after I tried to get him to calm down.” The woman, who had now moved to sit back down at her desk, replied with concern in her voice. “--Maybe today, you could just take it easy on him, you think?” She stated as an after thought seeing Klaren slowly get up from the office chair he had been waiting in.
The pale blonde male glanced over at her with playful, shocked face. “When have you ever known me to be trouble? I mean honestly.” He stated with a definite sarcastic undertone as he walked over to the door she had just previously exited and opened it. As he entered the room and sat in a new uncomfortable chair, he stared into the headmaster’s disgruntled expression with unamusement. There was nothing fun about getting a lecture from the headmaster about things he couldn’t change. Not to mention, about thirty minutes into the conversation, he was instructed to removed his lip ring immediately, because it was a distraction and made him look like he had a fish hook in his mouth.
He didn’t know how long he had specifically spend in that room being harassed and badgered by the headmaster, but it felt like an eternity. He thought for sure that he had wasted the entire day of classes being told how poorly he was doing in them and all of the bad life choices he was making, but unfortunately, he hadn’t. So after being verbally assaulted by the headmaster for a couple hours, he still had to return to class. It truly was a completely terrible hassle for Klaren to get sent to the Headmaster’s office. Since both of his parents were dead, he was currently a ward of the academy, so every time he was sent there it always seemed to get off-topic. They would start in on why he was sent there in the first place, then it would go to his grades, and it would turn into an argument about why Klaren constantly felt the need to defy the headmaster and the life he wanted for him. It was like getting all the negatives of going to public school and being homeschooled all in one.
Klaren took his sweet time walking to class as if walking slower was going to save him of having to face the class. As he walked in, he took his seat after being glared at by the professor and getting the typical, “it was nice of you to join us, Klaren.” They were working on potions. His least favorite subject, but of course, what is a magic academy without potions?
The day just seemed to drag on forever to Klaren. He finally escaped his classes only to receive a note from the principal. Apparently the principal was done playing games with him, and was assigning him a mandatory study session from 3-5pm everyday with a student mentor until he could get his grades and act together. Of course that meant that he couldn’t go to any of the student activities or sport practices since they were almost exclusively held at 3-5pm some time during the week. It was the unofficial student activity period… and now he was going to be stuck in the library everyday missing out while some ignorant, stuck-up, teacher’s pet tried to “fix” him and his inconsistent grades. But the cherry on top had to be that these study sessions were starting today. He didn’t even get a chance to really adjust to the news. before he had to go to the actual session.
Klaren, once again, found himself dragging his feet to his new torture destination. This day honestly could have rivaled with being one of the worst days of his life. Everyone was almost quite literally out to get him for something, and Klaren wasn’t even completely sure why. It wasn’t like he had a sign on his back that said, “Hey, having a crappy day, please come kick me while I’m down.” The library wasn’t even fun at this time of day, since almost everyone was at some kind of student activity or sport like they were supposed to be. As he walked into the enormous room, he realized that there was about five people in there maxium… including him and all of the staff. It was at that point something occurred to him that he hadn’t thought of before. Who in the world would willing give up their activity period to come be a student mentor?… it had to either be some snot-nosed brat that thought he was so brilliant he could fix all of Klaren’s problems within a week, maybe two tops or someone that the principal had enough dirt on to force into doing it as well.
As Klaren walked further into the cramped room of book shelves and study desks, he found himself almost amused with the thought. Someone who was also a pain in the back side of the principal? That could definitely be fun… but then again, he was almost positive that if the principal was going to actually assign him a student mentor it probably wasn’t going to be someone who was also a bad influence… He definitely had too much sense for that. As the troublemaker found himself under the sad realization that he was going to be bugged by someone p***k infinitely from 3-5pm every day, he took a seat at one of the many empty study desks around him. Reluctant to actually make himself at home, he pulled his messenger bag up and then pushed it onto the desk top. After opening the bag up, he pulled out the leather-bound journal and a pen. Without really thinking about much about it, he stared at the journal before it flew open to the first blank page and shortly after the pen began to float and scribe words onto the lines of the journal at Klaren’s command.
There was definitely some perks that came with being psychokinetic, not that anyone at the school even knew. It really got back to the fact that no one at the school really understood that he wasn’t a wizard. He couldn’t cast the spells or the magic… he could just control things with his thoughts and that just happened to be enough to get him by in a wizard academy. He had tried to tell them for many years when he was younger, but everyone just said that he was acting out for attention… so he gave up on trying to tell them and just began to pretend to be a wizard as best he could. In actuality, he was pretty terrible at it, but no one seemed to notice that. They just thought he was doing bad in his classes on purpose. The blonde haired male pushed the thought aside though as he began to really think about all the things that had happened to him today. He wanted to make sure that he wrote down all of the crap he was being put through, so he had to really try and concentrate so the pen would know what to write.
While he sat there and thought, he remembered his lip ring was still out from this morning, so as he continued to have the pen document his day, he began to also try and get his lip ring back in after fishing it out from his bag. At least the principal hadn’t thrown the ring away this time like he had done in the past.

"Oh, shut up, Damien. I have someone to tutor via the Headmaster, and if you want to spend time with me, you'll have to sit in there with me and wait until we're done, okay?" snapped a raven-haired teen, finally having enough of Damien asking why he had to be there with her and why he couldn't just go do whatever he wanted and them she call him when she got done? Because she was his girlfriend, that's why. Because if he loved her, he would sit beside her patiently when she was doing something, that's why. Because he had to be by her side as much as possible so she could keep track of him, that's why. He still didn't get it.
The male beside her clad in form-fitting black skinny jeans, an untucked white button-down and an undone black tie sighed and rolled his eyes to himself. She was so controlling and clingy. Why did he put up with her again? Oh, yeah, because they had been going out for six months, and he loved her. Right. "Fine, whatever," he mumbled as he moved to slide his arm around her waist. She swatted him away and huffed. "Damien, I have to be professional. The Headmaster entrusted me with this task, and I need to take it seriously," she hissed, scowling at him. Damien sighed and shoved his hand back into his pocket. "Fine. Fine..."
As they reached the double-doors to the library, she turned to him and looked him dead in the eyes. "Now, Damien. I'm gonna need you to behave in here, okay? For me?" she more demanded than requested. He just gave her a flat look. He hated when she spoke to him like he was a child. It drove him nuts. He was a responsible teenager, much more responsible than those around him, he thought. "Yeah. Whatever," he said a little harshly, a scowl on his lips. She just gave him a tight smile and pecked him on the cheek. "Good boy. Now, come on. We're late as it is," she instructed him before walking through the doors. She strutted through the library until she came upon the study area, and immediately saw her prey.
"Klaren, is it? I'm Jade, your assigned tutor," she said snarkily as she sat down in front of him, not even noticing the moving pen on its own, because she was kind of used to seeing it around the school. She pulled out her books and slapped them down on the table. "This is Damien, my boyfriend, but don't pay any attention to him. He's just waiting for this to be over with so we can spend time together," she explained briefly as Damien plopped down on a more comfortable chair to their side. He gave a little wave and a nod before sighing and grabbing a random book from a shelf, opening it to read. "Anyway. What is your worst problem that you're having magic-wise? Potions? Spells? Transfiguring? Defense?"
While she was bothering the poor pale boy, Damien looked him over once more. He had undoubtedly seen him around the school, because he looked awfully familiar. He was such an interesting individual. He was almost completely pale if it weren't for those freckles covering his nose and cheeks. Even his eyes were a pale grey. And it was the weirdest thing that he only had one ear gauged. It would be different if it were pierced regularly, but a whole gauge on one side? That was intriguing. He had a lip ring on that side, too. As soon as he realized he was kind of blatantly staring, he looked back down at the open book in his hands and began skimming the pages quickly.

As the raven haired girl and the chocolate haired male walked into the library, Klaren seemed to come out of his own world and the pen began to slow down to a small thought every couple of seconds. He knew right away that the girl was here to tutor him. She had the "I'm better than you" look from the door. She had this stupid, fake smile like she actually wanted to be here, and she was actually wearing the uniform properly. There was only about 2% of the entire school that wore the uniform properly, nerds and the really pretentious preps. The guy somewhat threw Klaren off though. He didn't look anything like the girl did, and he actually recognized the guy from his spell class. What the hell was he doing here? He wasn't much better in his classes than Klaren was. Of course, his grades were at least constantly C's or D's, the main problem with Klaren's grades is that they were mainly C's with individual classes being littered with stark contrasts where he would ace one test, but fail the next two.
Klaren said nothing as the girl came over to him and introduce herself. He already wanted to punch her in the face just from the way that she was trying to talk to him. He wasn't stupid, and he definitely wasn't a child. He just didn't belong here, and that shouldn't be his fault. The pen stopped now, before Klaren sat up and shoved the journal back into his messenger bag. He still said nothing to her as he seemingly ignored her as he packed his things back up and then shoved his bag on the floor away from her. He didn't even look up at her again until she stated that Damien was just going to be sitting and waiting while she tutored him. How self-centered was she that she was going to force her boyfriend to sit in the library and miss his free period as well as the two that were actually forced to be there? He already hated her.
As she asked him what he needed help on, he just quietly reached back into the bag and handed her a paper from the contents of it. "I was told to give you that." He stated blankly. It was now painfully apparent that he really didn't want to be there. The piece of paper was a print out of his detailed transcript that not only included the final grade in each of his classes, but also the individual exam grades for each class. It really was written proof that Klaren could not do magic. He fail just about every other test depending on the subject. For every test that required a demonstration of real magic, Klaren couldn’t produce the goods. Most of the time, if he didn’t fail he skate by with an illusion of magic through his psychic abilities. Of course, most people just believed that he wasn’t trying. Klaren obviously had some kind of power in him, but no one wanted to open their eyes and see that it wasn’t magic. Klaren had honestly been trying to convince them that he wasn’t a wizard for so long, that he had just gone deaf and accepted that he had just had to get out of this academy.
As the blonde watch Jade glance over the transcript, he could see the gears in her head starting to turn. She was realizing that Klaren wasn’t the easy fix like she had originally thought. She was slowly coming to the realization that she had just signed away her free period for quite possibly the rest of the year if not longer. She was going to quit. Klaren could tell that she wasn’t cut out for this. “Look, so why don’t we just cut the crap here, Okay? By the way you are looking at my transcript, you realize I’m a hopeless cause and you would like nothing than to go back on the deal you made with the principal, what did he give you by the way? A pass on a PDA violation?” Klaren stated before he glanced over at Jade’s arm candy staring at him. As he made eye contact with the other, he noticed him awkwardly try and pretend that he wasn’t staring at him. Yeah, that guy was completely loyal to her. He probably didn’t even really like her, they were probably together for the image of it.
“Yeah, definitely, anyways I telling you right now, you won’t be able to teach me anything and if you think you can you are more arrogant than I originally thought. So what you are going to do is march your little happy butt back to the principal and tell him you made a mistake agreeing to tutor me, because I assure you that you will not enjoy spending two hours everyday with me.” Klaren told her in a serious voice as he leaned back in his seat and put his hands behind his head. As he moved his arms back behind his head, he flashed his large, cursive script tattoo to the two since it back on the back of his forearm.

"Oh, thank you," Jade told him with a tight smile that didn't reach her eyes and took the paper, quickly skimming it over. She was sure her face almost grew devastated as she looked at this poor kid's grades. He must have been slow or something to have grades this low. The odd thing was, though, was in some of his courses he was going through them with flying colours. Others...it was like he just wasn't trying hard enough. Or at all.
She came back from her own little world of disapproval as Klaren began to speak. The longer he spoke, the redder her face got in anger. Who did this kid think he was? And who says she was going to give up on him? And what was with the attitude? She was here to try and help him get through school properly and succeed, and all he seemed to want was for her to go away.
"I'm not going to give up on you, and I'm not arrogant," she practically snarled then took a deep breath to calm herself down. Damien hid behind his book and tried his best not to laugh out loud at the look on her face. It was priceless. "Now, stop with that nonsense, and pull out your wand so we can see where you lie in performing magic," she told him haughtily, snapping at him.
Damien finally was able to calm down enough to come out from behind his poor hiding place and sit up a little straighter, clearing his throat slightly. He glanced back up at the guy, and his attention immediately hooked on the blotch of dark ink across his arm. He strained a little to read it, tilting his head a bit so he could make it out easier. The Latin word for change? Interesting. He glanced up at the guy's face again then at Jade.
"Babe, I'm pretty sure the guy doesn't want he--" He cut himself off as Jade shot him a piercing glare which basically told him to shut his trap. He just scowled at her and scoffed out a, "Whatever," before going back to his book in a foul mood. Most days she was bearable. Today, she was extra high-strung, and it was driving him crazy.

It was almost too amusing watching the other get so frustrated over his voice. Who did she honestly think she was kidding right now? If she couldn’t even handle one snarky comment, she wasn’t going to last a week. Was Klaren a mean person? Not really, but he didn’t really enjoy being around people that thought they were better than him. He knew that he was different, and he didn’t need some p***k to remind him. If telling someone off for treating you like you are stupid, then yeah, you could say that Klaren was mean.
“Oh yeah, I’m sure that you are not full of yourself. Let me guess, you probably have a loving mommie and daddie and a trophy case for all of your awards at home, don’t you?” Klaren snapped back as he pulled his arms back down and almost glaring at back at her with his different color eyes peering through a blonde swirl that was in his face. “If you are going to insist on tutoring me, you should at least have the decency to not lie to me and yourself.” He told her before he looked away from her. She looked like she was going to explode if he didn’t lay off of her soon. Klaren could be pretty mean sometimes, but he knew when to stop.
“I don’t own a wand, I never needed one.” Klaren told her as she snapped at him to get his wand out. It was true that he had never owned a wand, but in all honesty, because his power didn’t really stem from magic, he had no idea what would happen if he tried to channel through a wand. He could move things with his mind for as long as he could remember, so he didn’t ever think about needing to get the wand. His beginner level teachers just accepted his psychic feats as wand-free magic, so he actually didn’t even run into the probably of people thinking he needed a wand until he reached hard magic classes that required more than the ability to make things float.

Jade's face had grown almost purple in anger and frustration and embarassment the longer Klaren spoke. Never had she dealt with someone so arrogant and infuriating! It also didn't help that it really didn't take much to set her off. This guy hadn't just nudged her off of the cliff--he shoved her and sent her flying. And fly she did. Across the table.
Damien saw it coming before it even happened. This guy had broken Jade, and her beaux threw down the book he was reading and hopped off of the chair he was lounged in. He snatched her around the waist with one arm and covered her mouth with the other to stop her from screaming out in the middle of the library. He dragged her backwards away from the practically-albino male and gave him an apologetic smile before he drug her struggling form out of the library and into the closest lavatory he could find, shushing her the whole time.
"Calm down, and I'll let you go," he told her calmly. When she stopped flailing around, he cautiously let her go and turned her around to look at her, seeing tears flooding her eyes. He gave a soft sigh and smiled at her. "Don't you cry over a punk. You weren't too nice in there, either, you know," he told her and wiped her tears away with his thumb. She said nothing, but looked down at the floor. Damien chuckled, and ran his fingers through her hair once. "You stay in here, and I'll go get your bag. You two can work this out tomorrow," he said with finality and left the bathroom, reentering the library and heading back to the tables.
As he approached, he saw the Klaren guy gathering his bag to leave, and grabbed Jade's. "Hey, sorry about that. She gets a little hung-up on herself and occassionally explodes. At least she didn't have to be sedated this time. She's really not always as horrible as that was. I mean, she was being kind of a b***h, too, but go a little easier on her, alright? She really does want to help, even if it doesn't seem that way," he told him and held his hand out to Klaren. "I'm Damien, now that we've properly met," he told him with a smile.

Klaren’s eyes sharpened as he watched the girl about lunge at him. Neither of the other two noticed it since they had real become focused on each other, but Klaren’s whole body when almost rigid and the loose items around him had begun to shake movement from where Klaren’s fight or flight reflexes were kicking in. Klaren was not one of the kids at the academy that took a beating. In fact, he put just about every student that picked a fight with him in the infirmary, because the moment they laid a hand on him, Klaren sent just about everything that wasn’t nailed down flying chaotically at them. When he was a freshman, a senior thought it was a good idea to try and beat him up, and Klaren broke his arm and gave him a concussion to show him how much of a bad idea that was.
Klaren took a deep, calming breath as he watch Damien literally drag his girlfriend out of the library. If everyone wasn’t in activity period, the three probably would have made a gigantic scene in the quiet library. He watched the door for a minute or so waiting to see if either of them was coming back, before he quickly began packing up his things. Like hell, he was ever coming back to one of these tutoring sessions with her ever again. The chick was a psycho with an honors cap. He had just shoved his back over his shoulder when he noticed the guy had returned. “Yeah, I kind of noticed. I think she has her head up in the clouds if she thinks she can actually teach me anything.” Klaren mumbled under his breath in return before listening to Damien continue. He almost startled at the hand. He had just edged his girlfriend into a fight and now he wanted to introduce himself. Who was this guy?
Klaren cautiously took the hand offered to him before mumbled his name and a greeting back to him, “Klaren, you seem a lot cooler than your girlfriend, you know that?.” The blonde then glanced away from the warm chocolate-haired boy standing in front of him. “Look, I’m not trying to be mean or difficult, but I think even you have a far better chance at teaching me magic than she does, I just don’t respond well to being yelled at and if she knows what is good for her, she will seriously consider just telling the principal she wants to quit. It’s really going to save her time and a lot of heartache. But I guess she is going to do what she is going to do, and I’ll be here tomorrow at 3pm.” Klaren told him before he started to walk away out of the library. He had made it may fifteen steps out of the library, before he saw the headmaster. He was probably coming to check on how their first session was doing. “Ah, nope, I don’t want to hear anything, she dismissed me for the day, so I’m free and you can suck it, I’m going back to my room.” Klaren told the tall male before continuing to walk right by him. “Klaren, don’t walk away, what happen?” The man called back to him, but the blonde didn’t stop.
With a harsh sigh, the headmaster turned back towards the library and noticed Damien walking out of the library. “Do you know what happened?” He asked immediately almost distraught, but a little more composed than that. He didn’t see Jade anywhere so he was worried something happened to her.

Damien had an idea spark into his head as Klaren said that he, being Damien, could probably have a better chance at teaching Klaren magic. Before he could say anything about it, though, Klaren was walking away, and the Headmaster was walking into the library. He bit his lilp, knowing Klaren probably just wanted to go curl up in bed for the rest of the day.
"Oh, Headmaster. Um, they just got to know each others' personalities a little better. It was kind of an icebreaker meeting, if you know what I mean? I'm sure everything will go fine tomorrow," he told him with a smile on his lips before walking out and hurrying down the hall to tend to his girlfriend.
It was time for dinner before Damien could get the chick to completely calm down. She had insisted on still tutoring this guy, and it made Damien's head hurt because of it. But instead of getting into a fight with her about it, he just calmly brought her to dinner and even paid for her meal as well as his own. As they walked over to their usual table--just the two of them at an eight-seated table, Damien's eyes scanned the room in search of the stark-white, unruly mop of blond anywhere in the vicinity. He wanted to talk to the guy again. Not only did he interest him, but he wanted to run his idea by him before the tutoring session tomorrow.

The Headmaster stood there stupefied as Damien also blew him off. He didn't do it as offensively as Klaren, but he still didn't stay until he was dismissed like most kids would have. Was he losing his touch to command students? With a deep sigh, the man pressed his hand to his forehead and rubbed his brow. Today was never going to end. Unsure of where Damien was headed, he decided to forcibly catch up with Klaren. Klaren, although a major pain, wasn't a bad kid. He just had a lot of issues, and he knew that. He just had a hard time getting through to the kid. Of course, he couldn't actually catch up with Klaren before he got back to the dormitory, so he had to knock on to his door until he answered.
After another lengthy talk in which Klaren mainly pouted on the couch of the common space of his dorm, Klaren did finally open up about getting into the spat with his tutor. He generally liked talking to the headmaster in his dorm better anyway. The headmaster was a lot less official, and acted more like a worried parent rather than a school official. Of course, they only had these talks maybe every couple of months when something really bad happened.
"So are you going to go eat dinner? I think getting out of this dorm a little more might do you some good." The man asked as he stood up off the couch and briefly glanced around the small living room-like common space. The dorm rooms were split up so that every common space had three bedrooms and a bathroom attached to it, and up to two students could stay in each bedroom. Of course, since Klaren, like a few other students, was a ward of the school, they allowed him to opt out of having a roommate. He still had to share the common room with potential four other guys, but they tended to group the wards together. At the moment, Klaren only had two suit mates. They were a lot more social though. They were hardly ever in the dorm, and Klaren actually was pretty sure about the fact that one of them had an apartment somewhere else outside of the academy that he stayed at.
"...I don't know, I might." Klaren mumbled as he hugged one of the couch pillows loosely and stared at the ground. He was a lot less rebellious when the headmaster wasn't trying to pick a fight with him. "..I hate eating by myself. It makes me feel pathetic." Klaren's word had a sad echo of truth to them that made the headmaster frown a bit.
"Well, I'm really not supposed to give gifts to students, but I think I can make an except for you just this once." the headmaster told him after a moment of thought. With a wave of his hand and a few mumbled words there was a puff of smoke and mildly large egg appear. "I'm not going to tell you what it is, but take care of it, and it'll be a friend that will never leave you. Now if you don't drag your feet, you can easily make it to the dinning hall in time to still eat." He told the male as he handed the egg to him.
The blonde male seemed to just stare mystified at the egg for a moment, before nodded a little to the end of the headmaster's words. "Yeah, okay... oh and headmaster... thanks. I know I can be a pain, but I really appreciate this." Klaren told the other as he watched the other leave his common room. Klaren sat there with the egg on the pillow in his lap for a moment, before getting up and getting it a blanket. It got pretty chilly and if he was going to take it to dinner, he was going to have to make sure it was wrapped up.
Fifteen minutes later, Klaren turned up in the dinning hall with the egg carefully wrapped up in a bundle in his arms. He had never had a pet before since they could only have pets that they bought themselves and were approved by the school. Since he didn't really have any money and couldn't just find one in the forest or something, he didn't really have any other option. After getting a plate with his free hand, he sat by himself completely content for the first time in a long time. He didn't know what was in the egg, but he was excited about something for the first time in what felt like forever. He wasn't about to let anything touch that egg. Whatever was in it, it was going to be his first real friend in a long time.

Damien had managed to calm Jade down enough to resume social interaction through the rest of the day. After that, their time together was spent in a civil manner, actually enjoying each others' company. That usually happened after she had a big freak-out like that. She just had to release some of the pent-up stress before she could be comfortable again. She really wasn't as bad of a person as it seemed most times.
He had been thinking about his plan every second since they parted from the library. He wanted to talk to Klaren, but he hadn't seen him for the rest of the day before supper. Plus, he had constantly been by Jade's side since the incident.
His eyes searched for the stark blond head of hair as he walked through the dining hall with Jade at his side. She had a rare smile on her lips, and it made him happy to see that. One thing about being with Jade was that he always cherished the little moments when he alone could make her happy. Even if those were the only moments he cherished...and they happened on rare occassion.
“Who are you looking for?” came Jade’s inquiring voice. She had noticed he seemed distracted--which happened often enough--but this time she happened to want to know about it. Damien looked down at her curious face and gave her a reassuring smile. He told her he was just looking around at all of the different people. People-watching and junk. She seemed to take that as a good enough answer, because Damien did quietly take in his surroundings often. He liked to know what was going on in the world immediately around him.
So they sat down at their table and began to eat, holding pleasant conversation while Damien kept on the lookout for Klaren’s appearance. At one point, when they were almost done with their food, he looked up and spotted him walking into the room. A small smile lit up his face, and his gaze slid down curiously to the bundle he was holding in his arms. What the hell was that? He heard Jade say something to him, and turned to look at her. “I’m sorry. What’d you say?” he asked, shoving a forkful of food into his mouth.
“I said, come with me so I can go talk to him,” she told him. She knew he knew who “him” was, because she watched his eyes follow him. Damien quirked an eyebrow at her curiously, wanting to know why she wanted to talk to him. “Oh, hush. I want to apologize,” she said, a blush rising to her cheeks as she thought of the incident earlier. Damien nodded, and they both stood.
“Klaren? Jade has something she’d like to say,” Damien said as they approached him. He took a seat beside the pale teen, and Jade remained standing as she looked at him, embarrassed. She apologized in a quiet voice, telling him that she hadn’t meant to freak out like she had, and it’s not likely to happen again. She asked him to please forgive her as much as he could muster, and she would still like to try tutoring him. Damien was actually taken aback a bit as she spoke. He hadn’t heard her sound so genuine in quite some time, especially when giving up her pride to do something she knew she should do.
He noticed that since Jade was so focused on Klaren, she hadn’t seen the bundle resting on the table beside him. Damien had, though, and he was surprised to find it was an egg bundled up in what looked like one of Klaren’s blankets. “I didn’t put her up to this,” he told Klaren suddenly so he didn’t think it was Damien’s doing. “This is all on her own.” He looked back at Klaren then at Jade and smiled. He was proud of her.

Klaren seemed comfortable by himself now with the egg. He even began to sing which was something he hadn't done in a very long time. When he was younger, he use to sing all the time since he could vaguely remember his parents singing to him in the night. Of course, his songs were ever as gay as when his parents were alive. He didn't remember a lot about his parents, but he knew that he always remembered them best when he was singing. That remembrance was the main reason that his songbird like voice fell silent for long periods of time. As good as it felt to feel them in his voice, it hurt too much to know he was alone now. But he was happier than he had been in a while and he had to sang to his pseudo-child, like his parents sang to him. It just felt right.
"Oh, misty eye of the mountain below Keep careful watch of my brother's souls And should the sky be filled with fire and smoke Keep watching over your sons
If this is to end in fire Then we should all burn together Watch the flames climb high into the night Calling out father oh stand by and we will Watch the flames burn auburn on The mountain side high
And if we should die tonight We should all die together Raise a glass of wine for the last time Calling out father oh Prepare as we will Watch the flames burn auburn on The mountain side
Desolation comes upon the sky
Now I see fire Inside the mountain I see fire Burning the trees And I see fire Hollowing souls I see fire Blood in the breeze And I hope that you'll remember me...."
Klaren's voice, although beautiful, didn't raise above a soft speech, so most of the students around him couldn't even hear him singing. He didn't particularly care if they heard, he just wanted his egg to hear. It was the only thing that mattered to him. As he sang, he slowly began to eat in brief pauses where he would reflect on the song. It was an old folk song about a dragon that his parents use to sing to him. He felt oddly connected to song even though it was kind of sad.
Klaren stopped singing abruptly hearing his name being called out. His mismatched eyes snapped around quickly to the sound as he found himself looking up at Damien and Jade from the tutoring session before dinner. As Damien continued to talk to him and told him that Jade wanted to say something to him, he had to bite his tongue from saying something rude. He really just wanted to tell her to shove off. He didn't need her negativity and distinguishing snobbishness in his life. As Jade began to speak timidly and apologize though, Klaren felt his anger melt. He didn't stop eating to listen to her. He found himself just constantly switching from his plate to her face. She seemed genuine, but he still wasn't convinced that she could teach him anything.
"...Look Jade, that's..." Klaren started to speak, but Damien cut him off to say that he didn't put her up to this. Pausing for a moment after Damien stop speaking to make sure he was finished, Klaren then started again. "Jade, I have no doubt in my mind that you are probably a fantastic student, and you probably could tutor a lot of other students in this school just fine, and you know actually do some good. I'm just not that student. To spell it out for you, Headmaster has been trying to find a proper tutor for me for years now, and nothing as ever come up it. I just don't learn the same way that most students do, so please don't be hurt by this, but I really just don't want you to tutor me. I don't want anyone to tutor me, but I really just don't think that you can help me." Klaren tried to clarify for her as best as he could. He didn't want to hurt her feelings or anything. He really did appreciate the apologize, he just didn't want to be her pupil so to say.

Jade frowned deeply, obviously disagreeing with everything Klaren was saying. She still wanted to at least try to help the guy out even though he didn't seem to want it or think that she could.
Damien thought about Klaren's words towards Jade, and before he could fully process the thought in his head and before Jade could retort, he blurted out,
"Why don't I try?"
Jade immediately paused, mouth held open to speak, and looked at him, confused. "Try...what? What are you talking about?" she asked him, face full of puzzlement. Damien, now having time to process his words, blushed lightly as he noticed Klaren staring at him in confusion as well.
"Uh...tutor him," he said, a little quieter than he meant to. Jade let out a little scoff of a laugh, obviously finding it genuinely hilarious that Damien thought he could tutor someone that she couldn't.
"Oh, Honey...you need a tutor yourself. I don't think you'd be able to help him out much," she said, gesturing to Klaren, shaking her head a bit at her boyfriend. Said boyfriend's face went stony. Obviously, she didn't realize how insulting she was being, because she didn't even notice he was upset.
"You know what? Maybe he needs someone that can learn as he does instead of someone who appears to have a broomstick shoved up her a** and her nose somehow simultaneously high in the air and in a book at the same time. You'd be surprised how not being a little b***h can make things work out a little better for you," he sneered, a heavy scowl set on his face. She should know by now not to mock his intelligence, because it always ends bad for her.
He watched her face turn red before she huffed and stormed off, out of the dining hall, and the pride he felt for her not long ago was then gone.

Klaren’s eyes snapped to Damien’s as he heard him say that he wanted to tutor him. He almost looked almost as shocked as Jade was. For a moment, Klaren thought he was actually just making a terrible joke of all this. He didn’t actually think he was serious, until the two actually started to have a fight about it next to him. It was in that moment that Klaren found himself entertaining the idea.
Damien would probably be much more reasonable with the tutoring schedule. He probably wouldn’t even give a s**t if Klaren was bad either. He would probably just try and get him to average rather than perfect. In that moment, Klaren actually found himself thinking it might actually be a good idea. He wouldn’t have to worry about trying to get it anything perfect, because he knew his tutor couldn’t exactly do it right either. All the pressure that he always felt being tutored would be gone. Klaren actually found himself liking the idea. A whole lot actually.
As he tuned back into the conversation, he watched the witch stand up and storm out of the dining hall. “You didn’t need her, anyways.” Klaren commented softly as he reached over with his free hand and giving him a small fist bump. “You are much cooler than she is. She is a b***h.” He said off-handedly before he picked back up his fork and started eating again. The egg was still wrapped up and in his other arm. He looked like he was trying to eat with a baby in his arms.
“Hey, I’m not saying you have to, but if you want to, you can stick around and eat with me.” Klaren stated after another bite of food. He didn’t really open up to people. Most people weren’t interested in being friends with him to begin with. Klaren wasn’t making it completely obvious, but he did want Damien to say and hang for a while. He figure he wouldn’t mind getting to know someone who was willing to stick it to that stuck-up b***h.

Damien grunted out a "Whatever," as his, he guessed, ex-girlfriend stormed away from him. He sighed and ran a hand up his face and through his hair, eyes sliding over to Klaren once more as he spoke. It kind of made Damien smile to hear that such a stand-offish guy thought he was cool and maybe worth something more than a stuck-up b***h. "Yeah, I mean, she has her good moments. She really does, but, ******** if she ever realizes just how shitty she's being most of the time," he said off-handedly as a reply to Klaren's insults. She really wasn't terrible all the time, otherwise Damien wouldn't have gone out with her in the first place. She just got bitchier as the relationshhip went on. Hell, for all he knew, it could have been his fault she was like that. He had no clue.
A grin spread across his lips as Klaren invited him to sit and eat with him. This guy really liked him, huh? He easily accepted, plopping down right beside the guy happily. This gave him more opportunity to examine the bundle in his arm. "I already ate before we came over here, but I'll definitely join you while you eat," he told him idly, turning sideways on the bench so he was straddling it and resting an elbow on the table, chin propped up in his hand as he looked over Klaren.
"Ya know, if it's hard to eat with that egg in your other arm, I could hold it for you until you're done. I'm surprisingly good with not breaking important things," he offered. He wasn't going to force him to let him hold it, but he would honestly love to get closer to that thing. It pulled him in for some reason. His attention couldn't be placed fully on anything else because it kept gravitating back towards that egg.
