OOC: SCENARIO Prompt 6 - Safety

Scenario requirements: Your character finds a campfire, and there's a few people settled around it. The people stationed at the campfire are fixated at it,and almost say nothing to you. You can (and any other players in the thread) talk to them as you wish. When you are done talking to them all, this event is over!
Character 1: A girl with long black hair. She stares into the campfire and continues to say the words she lied over and over.
Character 2: A balding, old man. He begins to recount a story about his past, about how he was a fisherman. All he fished up were dead bodies. He continues to talk about fishing up his friends. He continues to talk about his wife and how he fished her up too. The story gets more and more morbid.
Character 3: A small boy, maybe five years old. He is looking straight at you the entire time. As you approach him, he whispers I know why this is is happening. If you question him further he doesn't say anything. However if you bribe him with a food item (DISCARD IMMEDIATELY AFTER) he will take it and continue speaking. I am Peter Pan. You blink, and as you do, you realize it wasn't a child at all, but simply an skeleton corpse of a child.
When the event is over, add +10 infection to your character's infection meter
Characters involved: Charlotte Dee "Shard" Williams
Extra effect: Any player in your party [ carrying a flashlight ] will be able to shine it in dark places. This does an additional +1 damage every time they hit any sort of mob (including boss mobs!) when they flash it at them.
This effect ends once the next [ effect in this thread ] is posted up!
This effect is stacked with the above effect.
If you one person rolls a mob in a PRP/SOLO/ORP thread, nobody else in the thread has to roll for mobs! This post's effect is applicable to ALL characters, flashlight or none!

Shard kept running until she thought she would collapse, then she smelled smoke!

Moving forward, Shard held her knife defensively and advanced warily. She passed through two looming gates and they didn't slam shut behind her. Two entwined snakes on the pillars meant 'hospital' to her... but the place looked old and deserted...

BANG! Shard shook and looked back just in time to see something about the size of an elephant disappearing into the fog on the opposite side of the now-shut gates.

The smell of smoke was stronger here and she followed it around the corner of the building's entrance. There, she found a campfire with three figures staring at it. None of them seemed to be paying any attention to her, but only staring at the fire. A young girl with long black hair, an old, balding man dressed as a fisherman, and a small boy about five years old.

Having run in to the circles of silent folk previously, Shard was all ready to just plop down and silently enjoy the warmth of the fire, but she was shocked when the small boy turned and looked at her with the look of someone who had seen far, far too much of the recent chaos.

Shard circled around behind the young girl who was creepily whispering “she lied” over and over again. “Poor girl” thought Shard and was immediately overcome by voices filling her head of an elder woman promising to look after the little girl and falling victim to an infected. The whirling voices finally stopped and, once again, the girl whispered: “She lied.”

Moving behind the boy, Shard watched his head, then body, then legs slowly move keep his eyes fixed on her. Suddenly, he spoke: “I know why this is happening...” he intoned ominously. “I... I'd rather not know...” Shard found herself saying. The boy's hollow stare bored into her and she froze. “I'd rather just sit her a while and warm up, if that's alright?”

Without changing expression, the boy turned back to the fire, but still kept looking at Shard over his shoulder. Shard's muscles unfroze and she continued walking around the trio.

She sat down carefully between the little girl and the old man and warmed her cold hands by the fire. The smell of burning pine wood was reassuring in this place and the occasional SNAP of the sap-filled branches began to remind Shard of long-ago campfires on family camping trips.

Suddenly, the old man began speaking. “It was on a night like tonight when I reeled in my first dead man.” Shard began tensing to run as he lifted up a piece of firewood... and tossed it into the fire. She relaxed, but just a little. She noticed the others were ignoring him completely. “Yep, I pulled up old man Shanks just off the coast here just after everything went crazy. Threw in the nets, and out came Shanks looking like he'd been in the water for weeks, though I'd just seen him the day before that.”

Having heard enough, Shard stood up silently and moved away from the fire around the building. She didn't have to look to know the boy was still staring at her.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF MY CHARACTER "Shard" is a very physically fit 5' 10" woman who is only three months out of the Army due to a medical discharge. She has blue eyes and dark-ish blonde hair that seems messy and matted no matter how she tries to style it. She tends to dress in baggy pants (with lots of pockets) and light jackets over plain shirts... and this was *before* joining the military! She was given a medical discharge when an accident dealing with a live grenade cost her her left pinkie finger and most of the feeling in that hand.
