It had taken what seemed like ages to get back to the Sanctuary. Had he really gone that far...? He supposed that he had, then again over a span of 20 years perhaps it wasn't that usual... Naturally trying to undo all of that traveling in a period of a week was going to be harsh. Needless to say, when Insonorise finally stood before the gates of the Sanctuary, he was tired. But not tired enough to warrant staying in town. They'd wanted to do a background check on him just to pass through! He didn't want to know what it would take to stay the night...

After catching his breath, the bell Meta entered the grounds. Something seemed... off. Like he'd just passed through an invisible wall. Shuddering to himself, he proceeded onward to the main building. Things seemed... mostly the same. A little worse for wear than he remembered, but he supposed that was to be expected. It was at least one thing in the favor of this being the real deal. A research group probably would have taken the time to spruce the place up, make it look like the paradise they were advertising it to be.

Once at the main building he paused to look around again, plum eyes examining everything with a near dissecting gaze... It was very quiet. A little too quiet for his taste. With a frown sneaking onto his face, he finally reached out to open the doors, and then stepped inside.

At least this had received some care. He made his way leisurely over to the front desk, belled tail swaying gently behind him. In a place that claimed to support Metas, he had no worry that someone would grab it unexpectedly, or try to cut it off or something... Once he reached the desk, he looked around, trying to see if anyone was around...

"Hello?" He quirked a brow, skepticism growing by the second. On one hand, leaving the desk unoccupied either meant not many Metas had arrived so the Sanctuary owners felt no need to have it manned at all times... On the other, perhaps this was just another way to lure unsuspecting victims further into the grounds where they couldn't leave. Either way, Sono supposed he'd find out.

Rhun had been on the phone. Talking in a hushed but stern tone. Anyone who might overhear him from the open door of his office could likely tell he wasn't happy about something and seemed to be laying down some kind of ultimatum with someone. The faint sound of a bell alerted him to someone's presence at the desk.

"...I have to go. We will talk again about this later." he instructed quietly before hanging up and coming to a stand. "Yes. Hello. Sorry for the wait." he spoke up softly as he made his wait out of his office and to the front desk. No longer donning his mask. He didn't need it. It hardly mattered, he looked quite different than he had so many years ago. A gentle smile on his face as he looked at the Meta who had called out earlier. His eyes drifted to the bell, and he raised a very slight eyebrow. His smile grew, though still genuine. "Welcome to Sanctuary. I am Headmaster Rhun. Are you here for a place to stay?" he asked as he leaned down to open the bottom drawer of the desk and flip through some hanging files for paperwork depending on his response. "You'll have to excuse the sparse staff, my assistant is out visitng an old friend, and my other assistant is visiting her sister in the infirmary today. So it is just me today." he offered with a light-hearted chuckle as he looked to Sono and waited patiently for the information he needed to proceed, acting calm as usual in this way, learning to keep his inner turmoil at bay even without the mask now.

Insonorise perked slightly at the sound of movement- ah, so someone was here... He turned to look, eyes landing on Rhun as he exited the office. On sight, he couldn't really tell what Rhun was, just that he wasn't human. Red eyes weren't exactly a human trait... but the lack of any other defining features didn't exactly point him in any other direction. Headmaster Rhun... so he ran the place now. Curious... He'd never heard of anyone named "Rhun" when he still lived around the grounds, and his mother hadn't mentioned anyone by that name either when she had a hand at assisting with the Academy.

"Insonorise, you can call me Sono." He flashed a smile, tail swaying behind him in a relaxed pattern. He watched as Rhun leaned over to open a drawer, one part ready to defend himself, one part expecting some paperwork... "It's quite alright... Though whether I'll be staying depends on whether you can answer a few questions for me..." Smile still in place, he tilted his head to one side, hands clasping together in front of his midsection.

"For starters, how long have you been open? Are you associated with the Academy that once occupied these grounds?" His tone was one of complete friendliness, matching with his expression and body language... but something in those eyes of his said he wasn't just asking for curiosities sake. He wanted an answer. A real answer.

Ah, so it was Insonorise, Deskri's older brother. At the least, this would be easier to deal with than the situation of Deskri. That battle was done.

Rhun watched carefully, pulling a few pieces of paper to set onto the desk before standing up straight to give Sono his full attention. Questions. Of course there would be questions. There was always questions. He gave a single nod. "Yes, of course. I am willing to answer any questions you may have.." he offered with a gentle smile.

"We have been open for only a few months now. It was a slow start up with limited staff, but as we move forward, this place has become more active. It's a steady process as most Metas are fairly apprehensive about Sanctuary. It is completely understandable, there are a lot of less reputable places offering promises of safety. I'm sure you will find we are genuine."

"As far as association with the former academy, there is only a very fine association in namesake and original mission goal. Nova, is here to help, other than that, the doctors are not in association with the sanctuary. I hope to start with schooling for the younger Metas, but as it stands, we are just a sanctuary for the time being."

Rhun kept a calm and gentle composure, formal almost as he answered the questions with ease. Theses were questions he was asked a lot. He waited for Sono to ask more questions. There was always more questions.

Ah, so he acknowledge the research facilities... One less thing for him to have to bring up on his own, he supposed. He nodded a little at the information given about the Academy vs. the Sanctuary - it seemed to check out but this land had technically been owned by the Broken family, hadn't it?... so how did this man come to acquire it..? Provided he was the one that owned the place, he could simply be a figurehead.

"Oh yes. Quite a few of those fake refuges..." He trailed off, eyes scanning the room around them for a moment before locking back onto Rhun. "How did you come to acquire this area? I was fairly certain this was private property before... And are you the one that owns it now, or just a figurehead for a larger organization? You stated the doctors aren't in association with the sanctuary, but they work here, yes? What organization do they belong to?" Doctors were a red flag - sad as it was. Most of them seemed to view Metas as experiments, not people... But as risky as they were, they were often necessary for the Metas that couldn't heal themselves-- Sono knew this.

"Ah, that reminds me- how is this place funded?" Money had to come from somewhere, and that money essentially owned whoever ran this place, even if it supposedly was able to function on its own...

PostPosted: Tue Jun 07, 2016 7:24 am

Rhun nodded as the questions came pouring in. He smiled calmly, almost chuckling at how many questions he seems to have. Very thorough.

"Well, Dr. Broken was the title holder for this land, as she is now considered deceased, the government took claim of it legally and listed it for auction to the public. Not many will touch this place being it's history for various reasons. I found that an opportunity, I had many donations to the cause I spearheaded for this project. Once the money was acquired to meet the sale cost of the land, I bought it. Its fortunate that I had come into such a very coincidental opportunity of purchasing the same land Metas came from, to open a sanctuary for them."

"Which leads into the answer that yes, I am the one who owns this land and buildings within the grounds."

He blinked slightly then waved a hand dismissively. "Oh, there must be a misunderstanding there. The doctors are in no way affiliated with the sanctuary. They are both assumed deceased. I only share in a similar mission statement as the original Academy that was once open here. Other than that, the doctors are not in association nor do they work here or have any influence in the sanctuary's operation. I apologize for that confusion."

He smiled again and stayed focused on Sono, more and more intrigued by the kind of questions he had. He smirked lightly about his last question, "We are funded by a number of very generous donors, named and anonymous. Those with very similar views as my own to provide a safe place for those metas that need it. Anything not covered by donors is supplemented through government funding as long as we keep to very simple rules already set forth and agreed upon. We cannot experiment on metas for obvious reasons, metas living here are subject to the laws set in Belosh for them, and we cannot accept those that pull up a current criminal record that has new violations added within the last 6 months. Those found to be criminals must be turned over to the authorities immediately. It's reasonable rules, honestly." he answered with a smile.

"I have a feeling you have more questions.. Would you like to come into my office and at least sit down while we address your concerns?" he offered with a gentle smile as he motioned to the open door to his office.

Well... that made sense, he supposed. If she was considered deceased obviously the land would go to auction... but wouldn't it simply be passed to one of her children? He knew Alice had been killed, and that Rasiel was considered her killer... but did that necessary exempt him from receiving anything Kae had left in a will, or did they just decide that didn't matter because he was a Meta? Either way Sono wasn't going to think too hard on it. He could look this thing up in public records to double-check the story later.

"Ah, yes, I must have misunderstood what you meant." He nodded, listening more as Rhun explained the funding situation... Just because they were donations didn't mean they wouldn't try to pull influence... Though if this was government funded he might be able to see who was donating somewhere. He'd have to look into that.

"Haha, your feeling is correct. I've come across plenty of those fake refuges over the past 20 years, so I'm a little... skeptical, that something like this exists purely without ulterior motives of some kind." He shrugged a little, since Rhun seemed to be being open about the Sanctuary, he might as well be open about the intention behind his questions. The offer to move to the office seemed nice enough.. his gaze slid just past Rhun, as if he were investigating the room before agreeing, but then nodded. "That would be nice, actually." He waited for Rhun to move first, then followed him into the office and took a seat, eyes wandering over the decor as he settled in.

"For those with criminal records, as long as it hasn't been with in the last six months are you still able to provide refuge? Does it depend on the offense? Which authorities are they handed over to? I'm sure you know they tend to be harsher in some areas than in others..." He quirked a brow, pleasant smile still on his face.

PostPosted: Tue Jun 07, 2016 7:55 pm

Rhun chuckled slightly at the mention of fake refugees, "Unfortunately so. Your skepticism is completely understandable and is fairly common place upon arrival at Sanctuary. I know it sounds too good to be true, especially in comparison to other places that promise the same kinds of things but ultimately have different goal in mind. It's... really disheartening that seems to be the common thing enough for those to question it. However, questions are good. At least you will know what you are getting into." he offered in a soft voice. It really was saddening that Sono, or anyone for that matter, would have to question safety like there was always an ulterior motive.

As Sono agreed to move into the office, Rhun turned to enter, followed by the bell meta. He motioned a hand for him to sit in the chair in front of the desk as he himself sat in the chair behind the desk. Rhun leaned back in the chair a bit with a smile. Much more comfortable. Now, more questions it seemed. "That is correct, as long as it is not a criminal record that has been added to in the last six months. It would have to be a crime. If it's a very minor crime, I still have to report it and they may overlook it and ask that I keep an eye on that individual. As for which authorities they are handed over to, they are given to the Belosh government. Though, they may be kept in Aldas for investigation under Belosh's laws and jurisdiction. Now, those with bounties are different, they still apply to the same six months rule, but if I must hand them over to the authorities, they are handled by the Criel government." he explained the process to him, trying to make sure to cover all the details he asked for, returning Sono's pleasant smile as he interlaced his fingers with a slight curiosity and intrigue.

Alright... he supposed that was reasonable. Criel though... His smile faltered slightly at the mention of the city, but quickly recovered its place on his face. It figured the Metas with bounties would go there-- then again some of them were violent... but how many had been pushed to that point? With no other alternatives?

"I see... And if one of those research facilities comes knocking, what is your plan for dealing with that? I know some of them have... government funding and I honestly wouldn't be that surprised if they tried to use that as an excuse to gain access to those who seek refuge here, even if it means coming by force. Or... if anyone here happens to have a Malice or Mane. That is another source of trouble... What stipulations do you have for those individuals?" Sono himself had no issue with them- it wasn't their fault. He'd witnessed Deskri being torn apart from the inside for far too long to develop any hatred for the poor hosts of the creatures- just the creatures themselves...

"Luckily, being under jurisdiction of Belosh government, this place is protected from such things. A research facility cannot force themselves to violate the rights of Metas here. As you may not know, and I will admit, I come from a research facility myself. Spectrum Research. All of research is done voluntarily and is very safe. It helped the government of Belosh and Belrad realize such a place like this is needed for those who could not seek protection until now. As such, any research facility that wishes to do observations would be allowed as long as the Meta being observed is consenting to it and it is done off sight. There were only two that were observed on-sight as they were still children that were finishing their observation period due to the nature of their conditions."

"Which leads into my next point. We are aware of Mane and Malices. The division of Spectrum I came from dealt specifically with them. There is an understanding of their workings and we can work with the host to overcome or subdue their Malice if we know about it. Many Metas here have Manes, to be honest. It is not as uncommon place as it used to be."

Sono nodded, listening intently... The openness of the admission that he'd come from a research facility himself was refreshing, but the knowledge that he even belonged to one was not. Then again he supposed if everything checked out, it could... probably be overlooked. "Do you still work with Spectrum, or have you left that to manage the Sanctuary?" He quirked a brow, figuring the answer to that could help him gauge how he felt about that whole thing... At least what he had heard of Spectrum was not bad, as far as he knew about most active research facilities they were actually pretty okay.

But it wasn't like good things hadn't gone bad in the past before. He knew better than to just assume it would stay that way forever.

"Is that so? That's good... I have- had... A brother who had a Malice during the time no one even really knew they existed... Terrible things." He shook his head with a small frown replacing the pleasant smile. He wasn't sure if Deskri was still alive, but... he'd long ago come to accept that he'd probably been killed, or killed himself. Deskri hadn't been the most stable of people... "I think as far as background go I'm satisfied for now, thank you for your openness." He pushed the smile back into place, and nodded again.

"For the housing, how does that work? Do you require some sort of work from residents in exchange? Or assistance with younger residents?" Well... he never said he was done with the questions...

PostPosted: Wed Jun 15, 2016 4:01 am

A glimmer of a smirk on his lips. Sono really seemed to ask the most important questions and had no problems asking them. It was something he was coming to admire even if he knew these questions may get ever closer to a dangerous secret. At the moment, it didn't seem to threaten much that he kept and were all questions that were common place or made sense to ask. Never the less, he continued on. "I no longer work at Spectrum. Though the one who owns Spectrum does live here, she was here to observe two young children under her care, but has since decided to stay for the while to tend to her sister. She does not work for Sanctuary but lends a hand when we really need to greet those coming in or to go run an errand. She does it as a friend." he answered.

As Sono mentioned his brother, Rhun kept his slender eyes focused on him. He simply nodded in response, and moved on from the topic quickly. That was a dangerous subject for him and knew it. It was best they didn't dawdle with it.

He was satisfied, excellent. He smiled again and nodded, "Most Metas feel a sense of community by helping with running the sanctuary or taking care of younger Metas. While it is not required, most feel they owe it. It is up to you. "

"Oh, is that so?" He quirked a brow... If she lived here, that meant she was a Meta, didn't it. Or at least that she had a sister who was. "Does that mean she's also one of us?" He couldn't help but ask, even if he was going to look into it later. There was a high probability he might know who she was.

Zero requirements to give back was certainly interesting... Giving so much without asking for much of anything in return... How long would this last? Even if many felt as if they should give back, no requirements to do so could end up backfiring in the future... "Do you have a curfew? Or regulations about what's allowed to come on Sanctuary grounds? Also, there was a Golden Altar here, is it still present or has that been confiscated?"

PostPosted: Sun Jun 19, 2016 10:52 am

Rhun nodded slowly then continued the faint smile, "That would be correct, she is a Meta as well... She has an ability to see Manes and Malices and has done so much to help with research and making contributions to better understanding spirits that inhabit our kind. She's lead so many humane projects to help us, they recently made her the owner of the company. She lives here and takes care of her sister." he explained simply and then leaned back in his chair a bit as he thought for a few moments, taking in the questions. "It is hard to keep a curfew, unfortunately, since there are some Metas who are nocturnal.. However, we do ask that noise is kept to a minimum after 9pm. As far as rules on what is allowed on Sanctuary grounds, it's very common things, such as please don't drink in public areas, no weapons... While we understand that weapons may be a power, we ask not to go pulling it out and showing it off. It's safety, honestly. Fighting isn't allowed on grounds, and generally don't commit crimes recognized by Belosh government, stealing, physical altercations, drugs, prostitution, creating satanic rituals to summon ungodly creatures into the realm of the living..." he trailed off with a slight grin. "Ahh.. sorry, that last one was a joke, I apologize.." he chucked lightly before clearing his throat to continue. "The golden alter is still here, and is protected under Belosh' jurisdiction as a part of Sanctuary. Adults are free to use it if they feel they are ready for such a step. It is still out of the way so that it isn't accidentally used or found by younger metas so easily."

Somehow that was a relief... Having a place controlled by Metas doing the research was a little more... ethical, to him, than having outsiders research them. Metas were far more likely to understand things than others just based on shared experience alone, regardless of how different each individual Meta was.

He listened to the list, mentally noting each item until-- oh, he couldn't help but laugh, voice chiming with the sound of several bells as he reached up to cover his mouth with one hand to muffle the sound. Oh, that was hilarious. Good! Humor was another thing that foul research facilities seemed to lack. "Oh, I would certainly hope no summoning of ungodly creatures would be taking place." He shook his head with an amused sigh, then nodded.

"Of course, that makes sense. Alright, well....I think that's all I have for now, though I'm sure I'll come up with more questions later... In the meantime, if I were to decide to stay, what is the process for that?" He glanced at the paperwork Rhun had intended to give him. "Aside from this, of course."
