It wasn't as though she was looking to stumble onto a handsome male, those sorts of things just sort of worked themselves out. Yes, Aquila had it in her mind to get knocked up (but gods be cursed if they thought of sending anyone to knock her around), but handsomeness was, as usual, one of the last things on her mind.
Some mares only cared to mate with kind-hearted souls, or the most beautiful in all the lands. Aquila just wanted someone strong. If she got her exact standards met, it would be this: a stallion of strong mind, body and breed. A draft would do nicely, or to settle her other half of her gene pool, a winged Soquili-though they had to be ones with feathers.
A full-blooded Angeni would be a nice catch. She mused as she strolled through the mountainside. She had just come from the Hot Springs and had let three months of dirt and muck and whatever else that got tangled in her mane and tail wash from her coat and into the water. While the water was no longer the clear pool she had entered it as, Aquila herself looked much more attractive. Her natural colors were brighter and her ringlets held their shape. Even her wings, which usually took a painstaking length of time and patience to preen (which she never did, for Aquila was never a patient mare) looked shinier after the bath.
She waited by a cliff side near the hot springs to let her coat and hooves and all other bits dry off and now she was on her way to the woods. It was going to be winter soon and she needed to find a place to hunker down within. A cave was ideal, but the remains of a grove wouldn't go untouched either. Still... If the mare happened to find a stallion in her path first, she had her priorities in order. She would court him (assuming he was her type to begin with) and then she could think about finding shelter.

A stallion was crouched down behind a tree, his orange and yellow eyes were focused ahead of him. His ears were facing forward, paying close attention to the stag that was eating some grass just a bit in front of him. He licked his fangs, imagining what it would taste like, he was eager to sink his teeth into it. When he felt it was distracted enough, he began to crept closer, making sure his pawed feet didn't make too much of a sound. Soon he was close enough to be noticed by the buck, who tried to flee. However, it was too late, as the fire colored Soquili had pounced, sinking his claws into the flank of the beast. " You will taste delicious in my stomach. So please, fight me a little,"he purred to the buck. On cue, the buck tried to get Conleth off with everything he could. The stallion held tightly, until he could wrestle the beast to the ground. He then sunk his fangs into the side, blood starting to gush out of the wound. A blood thirsty look filled his eyes as he worked on making sure the buck was good and dead.

Aquila had heard the commotion, whoever was in the area seemed to be making a show of the presence, rather than attempting to be any sort of stealthy. Still, she proceeded forward, though with a decent amount of caution about her.
Eventually she came upon the stallion who had his muzzle buried in a deer's gut. She observed the display with a look of boredom on her face as though she wasn't gagging on the inside. Which she was. A lot.
"Well, that was... Something." She remarked aloud in hopes of drawing the stallion's attention to her. If she could get a better look at him, at his muscles, she could determine whether he had any draft blood in him. Oh yes, she was that good.
Her eyes were traveling about him, noting the fluffy ears and tail with disdain. The traits of a Cerynei, fragile and weak, stood out plainly to here, but his feet, they were something else. There were no hooves, where hooves should be, but paws! Okay, that threw her through a loop. This stallion certainly wasn't her standards in living form, he was clearly a mixed breed, but if those paws were passed down to her foals, one of them could surely make a formidable opponent. It was decided then and there.
"So, are you interested in a business arrangement, my good sir?"

Conleth was very wrapped up in the devouring of his catch, when a voice cut through the silence. His ears flicked in annoyance, who in the world would interrupt him while he was in the middle of eating? Well, whoever it was would be very sorry for it, no one just spoke when he was busy. He stopped his consumption of the stag, turning his yellow and orange eyes dangerously in the direction he heard the voice. He crouched down, planning the pounce the offender, when he noticed the look of the other. It was a mare that seemed to capture the galaxy on her flank, it was quite beautiful, if he was going to admit it.
"It is very dangerous to just intrude on a predator's work. However, I am intrigued by this business proposition, so I will listen to you. However, be warned, if I do not like what I hear, I will make sure your insides are as beautifully displayed as this stag. So speak quickly, before I lose patience!"he growled at her. He kept his stare on her, waiting to here what she was going to suggest. Truth be told, he actually was impressed that she approached him, while seeing him tear a creature apart. He wasn't used to that, most mares would have avoided him.

Aquila was beginning to realize that perhaps she ought to have stayed away from this one, but she couldn't let doubt show anywhere on her face or body. Instead, she shifted her expression into one of cool neutrality. Her ears perked forward, but that was the only attentiveness or interest she showed in the situation.
"You're strong. You took down a buck on your own. You're graceful and quiet, unlike some lumbering stallions I've seen in the past. You seem to have good sense, even if the threat against me was not, so, my proposal: continue your lineage." She stood tall in the face of this pawed stallion and gazed upon him without shying away. "To put it in a more primal tongue, spend a night with me. I am not asking you to be any sort of father should you not want to. I only wish my own offspring will inherit your strength and my wits." She was to bold as to take a step forward, but she didn't near his kill or get within range of his claws. "Do you accept my offer?"

Conleth had his own ears pointed in her direction, trying to wait patiently for her proposal. A fanged grin crossed his lips as she began her speech with a few compliments about him. He seemed to stand a little straighter when she called him strong, graceful, quiet, and having good sense. He loved getting such praise, it had a tendency to inflate his already huge ego. The more she spoke, the more he seemed to be eating it up like he had been doing to the buck only moments before. He had to give her bonus points for looking him dead in the eye, not looking away or showing any fear, if she was feeling any. He looked thoughtful as she suggested spending a night with her, to make some offspring to continue their lines.
"I must admit, I would very much like to have some strong offspring to carry on my legacy. I will accept your deal, under one condition. I want one of them to stay with me, so that I may teach them to be the hunter that I am. Does this counter proposal suit you?"he asked.

Aquila was not blind. She could see that he glowed under her flattery. She had chosen her words for this purpose, for many males were as arrogant as he. She had spent much time learning the ways to seduce another of the opposite sex. She also took time to step to the side and line herself up in such a way that she showed off the majority of her markings and her recently-cleaned wings.
The counter-proposal was intriguing, though if he wanted to teach, why not teach all of his offspring to hunt and make them all better for it? She voiced that opinion now.
"I am intrigued by your offer to teach one. Why not teach them all to be hunters as grand as yourself? Then, when they have been efficiently taught, they come to me. They would know their father as a mighty hunter that way and you could release effective hunters into the world to further spread your heritage and greatness. If this answer does not suit you, I will accept your counter-proposal. I merely thought two or three hunters might be better than one."

Conleth's sharp eyes watched as she moved a little, seeing more of the markings on her body and her wings. He took in everything, imagining offspring of his with wings, it caused his grin to widen. Yes, swooping down out of the sky and striking their prey, his mind just soaked in those thoughts. He was brought out of his thoughts when Aquila spoke again, suggesting that he should teach all of them to be hunters. His chest puffed out when she spoke about him being a grand hunter, she really knew how to stoke his fire, didn't she?
"You make a very valid point indeed, it might be better to teach all of them. Alright, I will make them all hunters, then I want one to travel with me..with your permission,"he spoke. He knew how to be a somewhat gentleman, when he wanted to.

Aquila gazed upon the male with appraisal in her eyes. She didn't like the idea of giving away one of her future foals, but for the chance that one of them may carry her paws, perhaps the one that even went with her on her journey, she would take the bargain.
"I accept your proposition." She said and stepped forward. "My name is Aquila, what name may I call you by?" She waited and then looked down upon his feasting, noting the blood dripping from his maw and smeared around his chest and claws. She knew that they would have to make contact in order for her to become heavy with his foals, but she didn't like the idea of that blood getting on her when she just bathed for goodness sake.
So she retreated towards the trees and to the male she said, "When you are clean, track my scent, great hunter and we shall begin." If there was something one could certainly say about the starry mare, it was that she didn't waste time.

"Good, I am glad you accept, I think it will be beneficial for both of us. My name is Conleth and that is what you can call me, while we conduct our business. As for finding you, oh trust me, I will not have any trouble doing that at all, Aquila,"Conleth grinned. He wasn't thrilled he needed a bath, but he supposed he had gotten bloody with his meal. So he headed for the lake nearby and began to clean himself off. He reminded himself he was doing something that would be very worthwhile.
Once he was done bathing, he set to work finding Aquila, remembering the scent she had given off. The thrill of the hunt pushed him forward, oh he was glad that she was making him work for it.

Aquila had literally told him to stalk her, to track her, to hunt her. She didn't know why she said that, but despite her flight instincts pushing her towards cover, she stayed out in the open. If she ran, then the male, Conleth, would hunt her. She cursed her foolish choice of words, but more so she cursed her parents, a common pass time. Her parents gave her neither strength or flight, they left her too weak to fight and too heavy to fly. It disgusted and shamed her more than anything else. It had formed her personality.
She barely heard him before he approached and she turned from him. Better to get this over with....(Cue time skip.) Her chest was heaving by the end of it, tears welling up in his eyes. The beast had torn into her flesh with those claws she initially admired. When she regained her senses, she stumbled away from him, her back and shoulders stinging. Shallow cuts, she hoped, ones that wouldn't scar. Her beauty was the only thing that compelled males to her, she couldn't let this one spark of foolish behavior mar it.
"Now that we have finished 'conducting our business' as you put," She said, raising herself to her full height, which was only slightly taller than your average wind Soquili. "We ought to decide how we should proceed from here. Do you desire my company any longer, I assure you I am not as pretty of personality that I am of face. If we wish to depart and meet up in say, three seasons time at a certain location, we ought to arrange this now." She was not especially fond of the idea of keeping him as a companion, Aquila was a very selective mare and he had proven himself too primal for her liking.

Conleth licked his lips, that had indeed been an invigorating romp, even if she had been easy to find. He also wished she had been a bit more durable, having been easily scratched during their 'business.' However, he reminded himself it was worth it, if they had achieved their goal. Who was he fooling, someone strong enough as him easily accomplished it. He turned his orange and yellow eyes in her direction as she began to speak, him cleaning her paws. Truth be told, he really did not want to travel with her either. Yes, he did like all the compliments she had given, but he was used to working alone.
"I think it would be best if we just agree to meet somewhere at a certain time. I believe this is what would make us both happiest, don't you agree? No need to force interaction if it will just make us miserable,"he responded to her. He knew how to use that brain in his head...when he wanted to and his senses too. It was obvious she did not like him, she was probably just doing it to get a baby out of it.

Aquila managed not to look relieved, despite that being exactly the feeling she was overcome by. She only gave a graceful smile, indulgent even and nodded.
"A splendid idea, Conleth." She said. "It pleases me greatly to know you have some intellect to go with your strength." She folded her wings onto her back, refusing to flinch, and looked thoughtful. "Suppose we meet at the Hot Springs in during the beginnings of next Spring?" She proposed, flicking her ears and wishing to be off her feet. She would need to get back to the Hot Springs from which she just came, she realized, if she was to heal her wounds without infection. Sigh, another trek up the mountainside...

Conleth waited to see what she would say, really hoping he had not interpreted wrong her feelings about him. As soon as he heard her say it was a good idea, he had to refrain from letting out a relieved sigh. He hoped that his eyes did not betray how happy he was to know they would not have to be companions. As she complimented him again, he stood straight, he did so love getting those. When she suggested when and where they would meet up again, he nodded his head in agreement.
"Very well, near the beginning of next spring, we will both go to the hot springs. There we will discuss if our plan worked and what to do next,"he answered.
