Tenzin was proud of how his herd was turning out. They'd gained a fair bit of members lately and it was really pleasing to see how everyone was coming together to help the forest. He rarely had time to go out on his own without someone calling him back for something, but he didn't mind as much as he thought he might. He was a social creature, just as Damian had always told him.
Yet that afternoon, he had managed to leave. He knew that the others could handle themselves for the short time it would take him to walk through his home with his familiar at his side. Besides, if anything were to go wrong, it wouldn't take long for the news to reach his ears. Damian's offspring were all over the forest, watching out for anything of importance to tell their father about. He honestly had never thought having a wolf familiar was so handy. It was almost as though he were bonded to the whole pack, or maybe he was, considering he had a hoof in raising them.
"Pleasant day, isn't it?" He remarked to Damian at his side."Quite. We called this a border patrol, but honestly the forest is so serene that I'm not sure we really have anything to worry about." Replied Damian smoothly, his tail wagging with contentment.
"You may be right, but we may also meet another new friend." Tenzin reminded him. While threats were rarely a problem in Tenzin's neck of the woods, that didn't mean that they should be caught unawares. After all, what if there was a new Soquili to meet and get to know, just around the corner?

Fleur stumbled a bit as she tripped over an unseen root. She quickly regained her balance before letting out a sigh. That was the third time today she'd tripped over a root. It seemed that no matter how much she tried to watch her footing she still managed to find a root to trip on. She'd thought returning to the forest would give her some much needed perspective on her life. She'd been born in the forest after all so that must mean that deep down she was a forest creature. Unfortunately thus far the forest did not seem to agree. Her mane got tangled, her horn snagged on low hanging limbs and the roots...well best not to get her started on all the roots that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Maybe she'd been a fool to wander from the dunes and plains she'd spent most of her adult life wandering over with him.
No! She wouldn't think about that! She shook her head to clear the thoughts and banish them back to the farthest reaches of her mind where they belonged. She would not think about him or the ocean or any of that! That part of her life was over, she'd decided it was so when she'd realized he could never fully be a part of her life and she couldn't fully be a part of his. He needed the ocean and maybe half time relationships worked for others but honestly all she felt was empty when he had to return to the water and leave her. She'd tried to stop feeling that way. That she was just being clingy and overly needy but it didn't help that she hadn't had much to occupy her time and keep herself busy. She'd only been alive when he'd been around and that was no way to live. She sighed, so much for not thinking about it. At least the coil of emotion that lived inside of her whenever those memories came up seemed to be soothed, at least for now. Maybe now she could focus on all these roots and not fall on her face.
A faint hope it seemed as not two steps later she tripped over yet another and went head first into a tree getting her horn stuck in a burl. She squeaked as she tried to extract herself only to find that she couldn't quite get the angle right to free herself.
She squirmed for a moment before letting out another dismayed squeak. It seemed no matter how she moved she only became more stuck. Panic started to rise in the mare and she managed a few more incoherent squeaks before finally managing to call out. "Ember!" The she-wolf poked her head out of a rabbit hole she'd been sniffing around and hearing the cry bolted in that direction. "Fleur? Fleur, dear where are you?" the wolf jumped over a fallen log and continued to follow the sounds of distress. "Fleur? Fleur! Fle--Oh dear..." she trailed off seeing the condition of her companion. "Oh dear." she said shaking her head and going closer to see what could be done.
