Camelot returned to the alley where Painite and Hyperborea had their battle. There was blood all over the floor, from both combatants, and he half expected that to be the only traces of the fight that he found. Instead, he was surprised to see that Painite was still there, laying where she'd fallen.

She was not unconscious, as he thought. She was crying. She'd curled into herself, bleeding from her head, her nose, her shoulder clearly out of its socket. But it was not her injuries that brought her tears, and Camelot knew that without asking. She felt his aura, but there was no response from her as he kneeled behind her.

The Negaverse General had nearly killed one of his friends. Another one, not too long after the last vicious attack. She was relentless, and dangerous, but she was broken and, he realized as he put his hand gently on her shoulder and she trembled under his palm, scared. Sighing, he moved to wrap his cape around her, picking her up in it and carrying her toward the library. Hadaya was there, though Merlinite was out for some exercise as his recovery was going well. He took Painite down to Merlinite's room, putting her on the bed gently.

He saw she had her communication crystal in hand now, cradling it to herself. She must have called someone, perhaps for help, and bringing her here was a dangerous mistake. But his gentle, kind heart could not just abandon her, no matter how many atrocious things she had done. He could face anything that came for him, but he had an idea he knew who she called.

"We need to talk," he said to her quietly, as Hadaya walked up to him and looked up in horror. He nodded down at the guardian cat. "Please, do your best to keep our auras hidden. I know it's very difficult." He bent to pick Hadaya up, holding him close to comfort the scared, confused cat. And maybe petting his soft head was a little comforting to the knight, as well.

"You never stop talking," Painite mumbled.

Cavansite had received the plea from Painite to come and get her, and without a second thought she had made her way to the location, only to find it empty.

She felt two auras though, one of a General and one of a Royal Knight and for a heart stopping moment, she had a terrible thought that he was going to actually kill her this time.

But…no. No he wouldn’t do that. She hoped that he wouldn’t, at least.

Swiftly, the General drew in a breath and waited for a few minutes before teleporting to the library. Camelot always went to the library.

For a moment she felt the auras, near the door that Merlinite stayed behind and with just a small bit of hesitation, she made her way over, knocking softly on the door, before reaching out and twisting the knob. To her surprise it opened and she stuck her head in. “…Painite?”

Her voice was soft, and a little hesitant, her eyes searching the room and landing on the bleeding form of her fiancé.

“What the hell did you do to her, Camelot?” There was anger in her tone now and Cavansite entered the room, going over to Painite, drawing her into her arms and holding her close. She could just teleport out of there…she should just teleport out of there. She should take Painite home and take care of her where she could make sure of what was going on…but…

But answers were more important now…if she could figure out what had happened…she could better care for her.

“…Are you okay, honey?”

"I didn't do this to her. Well. Most of it. She was attacking one of my friends, who is currently in the hospital because of her," the Royal Knight said patiently, letting Cavansite enter. Hadaya brightened up when he saw her, wanting to go to her but remembering her warning about not telling anyone they'd hung out and shrinking back against Camelot.

He did not notice the movements, watching the two Generals carefully.

Painite leaned into Cavansite's touch, and tears immediately sprang to her eyes. She was an emotional mess, and though she did not want to, she began to cry as she clung to the familiar, loving warmth of her fiance. She knew she was a bloody mess, but it was the farthest thing from her mind. Anyway, their clothes would fix themselves once they powered down.

"I just want to be with you," Painite tried to explain. "Why is it so hard?"

Camelot watched them, never seeing this side of Painite before. His heart stirred, and he folded his arms over his chest. Painite was still wrapped in his cape, which she actually drew around her for comfort rather than throwing it away.

"She was fighting a knight who believes passionately in purification," Camelot explained, "they were going to kill each other, from the looks of it, the way they were arguing and brawling. But I can see that she's not herself. I thought about what you said, before, that there's good in her. That she is worth sparing. It's hard to understand, or to believe, after having to run my friend to the hospital tonight, but... Painite."

That goodness, he could see now, was her love for Cavansite herself. She grimaced, shaking her head.

"I wasn't going to kill her. I wanted to."

"But you couldn't. I saw that," he looked at Cavansite, shaking his head. He had no idea what was going on in their private lives, but it was clearly bigger than he had been giving it credit. And Painite, much like her partner, was more than just a monster of the Negaverse, even if she tried her damnedest to prove otherwise. He was not ready to forgive her, but he could offer a little moment of peace for now. "I have medical supplies, to help with the bleeding. I did hit her pretty hard when she attacked my friend."

"What's wrong with me?" Painite ignored Camelot entirely, looking up at Cavansite helplessly.

Cavansite cradled the other General close, beginning to run gentle fingers through her short rose colored hair. “I’m here, lovely, don’t worry. You are with me. I’m not going anywhere.”

Her voice was quiet, and she kept her attention focused on Painite for a few moments, though finally looked at Camelot, leveling him with a very icy expression. She wanted nothing more than to find out just who had done this…but…she figured that he wouldn’t tell her. Revenge was something that called to Cavansite more than anything else…but at the same time…

How beneficial would revenge really be? Wasn’t that how they had really gotten to this point in the first place? Just a cycle of attacks and revenge between Painite and Camelot…and at some point it had to stop…and she wouldn’t allow it to stop…with either of them dying. Not Painite, not the love of her life…and honestly…she didn’t really want to see Camelot being hurt either.

Though…if it came down to it and killing him was the only way to end things…then she would slip her spear between his ribs without too much guilt.

“There’s nothing wrong with you, Painite. You’re just fine. Everything’s fine. Everything will be fine. You and I will go home and we’ll get through this, the same way we get through everything.”

She continued watching Camelot, holding Painite a little closer, pulling the cape around her a little more tightly. “Nothing will hurt you with me beside you, Pain, I swear it.”

Painite held on to Cavansite, taking a few deep breaths. Camelot watched them, realizing that they really did love one another. Something he did not think Painite capable of any more. She had claimed to love Merlinite, after all, and did horrible things to him. Had it looked like this, though? He could never be sure.

He just had to trust his instincts.

"I know it's difficult," he said softly, moving to sit in a chair near the side of the bed. Painite watched him, looking passive for now, "to have things change when you don't want them to. When you're not ready. I can see you resisting, because you're scared and confused, but I think you understand why this is all so upsetting. You want to be able to live, to love Cavansite. You said that. You want to be left alone. But you know that, with the life you've made in the Negaverse, that's not possible. You won't be safe, from all your enemies in the White Moon, and the constant threat of being called a traitor by the Negaverse itself."

Painite stared at him, feeling cold. She did not like hearing her thoughts out loud, much less being explained to her by her worst enemy. She would not dare consider him right, her fear of it too strong to even consider. She knew where he was going, after all, and what he would suggest she do.

"But if you purify, if you allow me to help you, you would be safe. They wouldn't know you any more, and you could start a life together. However you wanted to live it. The both of you. And I would protect you."

Painite hated that he meant it. Hated that he pitied her. Hated that he was trying to understand her. She let out a strangled cry and leaped at him suddenly, summoning her spear to her hand and stabbing it into his lower neck, where it curved into his collar bone and shoulder. He recoiled, swinging his armored fist and landing a hard punch to her gut that knocked her back. She gasped, dropping to her knees.

Cavansite felt a growl rise in her own throat and wanted to snap at Camelot that now wasn’t the time for saying such things when suddenly Painite was jumping at him and he was hitting her. For a moment, the General was torn between attacking the Royal Knight as well and going to comfort Painite and calm her down before she did something unforgiveable…or before she ended up getting even more hurt.

With a look of utter disgust thrown at the older male, Cavansite slid off of the bed and once again drew Painite into her arms. “Enough, darling. Enough. He’s not worth you leaving me right now. I’m not going to let you get hurt worse because an old man can’t butt out.”

She placed a kiss against Painite’s cheek, her arms tightening around her. “We can just go home. We can forget this. You don’t have to listen to him.”

Lavender eyes rose again to meet Camelot’s and there was a new level of hatred in them. Two steps back was what this felt like.

Pressing her lips to Painite’s ear, Cavansite sighed softly, whispering, “I’ve got you. Take a deep breath my love…his words can’t harm you, you don’t ever have to purify…we don’t have to change who we are for anyone but ourselves.”

Camelot lifted his hands, indicating he had not meant to attack in return. The stab wound at his neck was bleeding, but it wasn't as deep as Painite would have liked due to the angle and her general weakness. He would still have a hard time explaining it to his wife, though.

Not great.

Painite leaned into Cavansite, watching Camelot darkly. He watched them both, frowning.

"If you find yourselves in need of a place to escape to, you're welcome here. I don't want to be your enemy, no matter what you think of me. When you need help, I will be here." He was stubborn, as they all were.

Hadaya quietly scooted closer, rubbing his round body against Cavansite's leg quickly, reassuringly, before he ran away to join Camelot again. Painite didn't see him, too angry. She turned to her fiance, though, nodding slowly.

"I just want to go home. Away from all these people." Hyperborea, Camelot. They were all the same. They thought they knew her, just because they'd been rivals for so long. How could they know someone they hated? How could they want to help her?

Why?

She took the initiative to teleport them away from the library basement, leaving Camelot stinging and stewing. Hadaya moved to sit with him as he sat on the edge of the bed. Heaving a sigh, he looked down at the guardian cat.

"I can't seem to get through."

"But you want to help," Hadaya said simply, rubbing his head against Camelot's arm, "That's enough. Sometimes helping can be hurting, and it doesn't feel right. You should just let them know you're here for them. Like I am, if you need a cuddle."

"Somehow, I don't think they want a cuddle from me." But he smiled at Hadaya's innocence, petting him on the head.
