This Kirin has a lot to do! They're in charge of organizing the entire feast for the Asphodel Gardens Masquerade this year. As usual, the masquerade will be held on Academy grounds, and the doors are open to everyone who wishes to attend the festivities. It makes ensuring there's enough food a rather difficult feat, but this Kirin is up for the challenge. It's up to you to come up with a plan to help this Kirin feed the masses!

Entry: In all their years of training to be an excellent caterer, they never would have thought they'd land a gig as big as this one. To cater to the Asphodel Gardens Masquerade... It was huge! A once in a lifetime event, especially if they didn't make everything turn out perfectly. But they were, they were going to make everything perfect.
They'd hired a few extra hands on for the event and started to work on their theme: Winter Wonderland. They wrote down their list for drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts. They checked it twice... and then several dozen times after that to make sure everything was running smoothly. While they oversaw a lot of the appetizers and entrees being prepared for the Masquerade, what they focused more keenly on was the dessert.
It was an idea that had come to them in a dream. While the appetizers and entrees were traditional meals one could find during the winter season, such as creamy stews and steaming soups; roasted nuts and sugar plums; velvety cocoa and spiced cider; meats both savory and sweet... They had made it to that everyone regardless of their particular diet could enjoy something. Not a Nightmare nor a Daydream would be left out of the celebration feasting at this event. It had been expensive, but the payoff would be worth it. They needed this to be worth it. They were willing to work their tail off if it meant showing their alma mater what they had accomplished with their life.
Yet, even with how delightful everything was and how they were certain that their food would be discussed for days after, they needed it to be bigger than that. They needed their work to be the talk of the season! And the dessert they were preparing for the Masquerade was going to secure that for them.
It was a gingerbread replica of the Asphodel Academy. It was a large project, one that took up the space of an entire rectangular table. They had to prepare the gingerbread house on the table a few days before the Masquerade and then carefully carry it in, because the weight would not hold against a tray.
It was their finest work. They had always been interested in dessert art, it was what got them into catering in the first place, was a chance to show off their skill, but even they could admit that they'd really outdone themselves this time. Rather than use royal icing, they used white chocolate to hold everything together; it tasted better anyway. They had used rock candy to create the 'icicles' that hung off the rooftops of the academy. Dyed white chocolate, fondant, caramel and various confectioneries helped bring the whole thing together.
By the time it was finished, they were so tired they almost didn't want to go out with it, but they had to see it presented in front of all of them. Through the help of their hired crew members and their own planning from weeks in advance, they had managed to pull off a grand feast. After the day of the Masquerade, they decided, they deserved to sleep in for the rest of the winter, as a Winter Solstice gift to themselves.

"... Oh no, I've got a soggy bottom!" Thierry cried, staring in dismay at the bottom of a decadent, meringue covered tart. He'd been baking all night, with at least a week's worth of work already accomplished, and he still wasn't sure that he'd manage to have enough for everyone who would attend the solstice feast. Things were not going entirely to plan - but that was all right! He had mapped out every hour, breaking it down minute by minute. If he pushed through, he'd get everything done just in time to put the finishing touches on the decorations!
It wasn't enough to prepare a splendid array of desserts and hors d'oeuvres. No, they must be displayed as befit such an event! But he'd made a terrible mistake in using berries for the filling, and the evidence was as plain as day. His teachers would be ashamed to be connected to his name! If he hadn't been quite so manic about this, he'd probably have felt exhausted. The kirin had been working himself to the bone, determined to make a good impression.
He was still new to the area and he had been so delighted and overjoyed to be selected! Setting the sad tart down, he rolled out his plans, eyes scanning rapidly over it. If he started this batch over, he'd... yes, he'd have enough time! All of the cakes, pastries, and assorted sandwiches had come out as expected. This was to be his last, great push. Thierry practically knocked the sugar over in his haste to reach for the eggs. He had just enough crust left to throw together a small batch, and if he filled it with lemon curd - yes, that would do the trick!
Flour on one cheek, berry juice spilled prominently down the front of his apron, the kirin feverishly began to assemble the tarts. First the filling, yes! That would just set if he finished it quickly! Then of course he'd need to create more meringue. Time willing, he'd have everything done in time. Not in enough time to attend the feast, of course, but that hardly mattered. He dashed about the kitchen, putting finishing touches here, adding a piped flower there.
When all was complete, he was absolutely wiped out - and he only had thirty minutes to arrange his display! Still, by wheeling everything in by cart, he was able to take quite a lot at once, and he'd spent some time last night decorating for the event. It was this last finishing touch that would pull it all together, and he had to work fast. The tarts, at last, were finished, and set into their place of honor. He'd baked dozens of each dainty that was to be served that day, and could only hope that he'd done enough.
He fussed over the tables until he felt sure that he'd done all that he could. Oh dear, those petite fours would look better over here! He bustled about, making small adjustments until there really was no time left. At last, exhausted, he left his labor of lover to be devoured by the masses. After all, he had... quite a bit of clean up to do. When he got back to the kitchen, he sat down. For as much time as he'd spent putting this together, he was going to have to spend just as much putting the kitchen back in order. Drat.
