Hello, people! I'm on a search that more often than naught turns out almost completely fruitless. I'm looking for a good yuri anime. Sadly, yaoi tends to dominate the anime. And the yuri that I do come up with is usually hentai (porn) and includes a male lead character.

Girl on girl > Guy on girl

*ahem*

So, if any of you happen to know of a good yuri anime series, please let me know! (So far, all I've got in my collection is Loveless, which is manly yaoi, but has a girl/girl relationship in it.)

Hmn...well...if you don't mind the lack of sex and the fact that there's only heavy implications of shoujo-ai there's quite a few.

Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito - Fansubbed and free. Of course it's based off an H game, buuuut...there's no H in it. Comes pretty damned close at times and it's a short wacky series.

Read or Die TV - No longer fansubbed and free. A company picked this one up and put it in a nice boxed set if you'd like it. If you like intellectual plots, from what I hear this one definately has one.

Maria-sama ga Miteru (Haru) - Fansubbed and free, I beleive. It's got a nicely large following on the Yuricon mailing list. If you can't tell from the title it's about an all girls Catholic school (The title means "Maria is Watching" with the implication that it's Mary and the sequel simply indicates that it's spring.).

Airmaster - Free and fansubbed...I think. A bit harder to get since it's not usually seeded on Bittorent. If you like violence and a bit of comedy this one's good. I like it a lot, but I haven't managed to finish the series.

PGSM - Free and fansubbed. Hell, you don't even need to download most of the episodes as they're on YouTube. Obviously there's nothing blatant in it since it's live action Sailor Moon, but none of the females in the cast are straight, ne?

There's more, but I haven't seen a single episode of them yet. I'll direct you to the yuricon website at http://yuricon.org for that. You can order manga, shirts and anime through them and I suggest checking out SnB.

Edit: There is word of a new anime out that sounds like shoujo-ai relationships will be more blatant, buuut...the title evades me at the moment. sweatdrop

I found I have this same problem...Yaoi makes me go 'ick' but yet there's no Yuri...anyone else have any more suggestions for others like these above? Especially if the anime is Subtitled or Dubbed and primarilly girls, preferably ALL girls...I know naught of the Japanese language...

i am in the same boat as most of you. i have some of those titles *nods* but *shrugs* it's how it is at the moment. i won't watch yaoi because it makes me go ewww. i mean i have nothing against gay males. but... yaoi just isn't something i want to see. just like gay males probably don't want to see two women in that situation.

Actually, I've been to that site quite a bit. And I have Yamibou and I've seen Read or Die. Both are beautiful series, I might add.

Might I recommend Shojo-Ai.com? Their master list is amazing.
It can be found here --> [x]

And I, too, have a certain distaste for yaoi anime. And I don't like hetero relationships in anime because more often than naught, the girl is taken advantage of in non-consensual situations(rape). And even in some animes where there are yuri situations occuring, there's usually a male thrown in there to screw it up.
My policy is this- I only take an anime with all girls. It could be the best series out there, but if there's hetero sex going on, I won't buy it. (Well, I might buy it and just fast forward through those parts. ^_^)

I strongly agree with you, mrgreen but it's really hard to find good yuri anime... sweatdrop

i have the same feeling. good shojo-ai or yuri is hard to find. hetero just deals with rape, tenticle rape or some other kind of sick fantasy. i would rather see a consensual relationship, or two people meeting up and slowly falling in love. not the oh you are cute, i love you and must have you kind of deal.

Too bad for us, right?
Fortunately, I can make my own (sort of) in RP, and read or write fan-fic stories.

oh btw. Air Master has been liscenced. Thus no one will be able to find it in a torrent or anywhere else legally. Sorry to disapoint anyone, but that is the truth now.

Oh, I've just found out about another anime series. I've seen little previews here and there and screencaps, and the animation is gorgeous. Admittedly, the creator seems to have a breast fetish. Most, if not all, the females are very well endowed and there is usually a part of the (sex) scene involving breasts either pressed against a window or other breasts. Not that it bothers me, mind you, but just thought some of you would like to know that. ^_^

Anyways, the series is called Moonlight Lady, though aslo known as Kao no nai Tsuki or Faceless Moon or No Surface Moon. (Based on a PC H-game). And it involves a young girl who is training to be a priestess. She is sent to her future husband's house to find the entire residence under a curse that brings out their sexual desires. There are a few good yuri scenes (one in a shower ;D) but unfortunately, there's a male in there. But I think the series is worth it, so you can just close your eyes and fast forward the icky p***s parts.

Also, it's been dubbed by Kitty Media (the H division of Media Blasters). So you can get it in english. All the moaning, however, was left in Japanese. And I hear the plot is hard to follow. But, it's an H-series, so you can't really expect much. ^_^;

And another little (pointless note). At times, I feel almost a bit guilty when watching this (or other) yuri titles. I don't know if you know this, but in Japan, crying or whining is cute and whimpering is sexy. Yeah... in America, whimpering usually means you're hurt and probably not enjoying it. So... yeah. You can ignore this bit. Just a little something I thought... I'd bit out there. *ahem*

Edit: Unfortunately, I've just learned that hetero scenes are more dominant in this series, so it may not be worth it. I'm working on getting it now, so I'll let you all know how it is.

I'm curious. whee I don't know that much about anime, but Anna's enthusiasm for it is infectious. I'm not particularly interested in anything R or X rated (and anyway, talking about that kind of stuff on Gaia will probably get us in trouble stare (I'm trying not to sound annoyed or bitter, but if any of you know about the plight of the Pussycat thread, you can understand my mood with regards to Gaia's methodology of enforcing it's PG-13 rating)), but so far all of the romance anime I have watched has been incredible.

Of course, it's all hetero stuff, and more often than not it's one guy and a dozen or so girls that all desparately want him. rolleyes Anna and Indi tell me that in Japan, anime comes in all forms and flavours, targetted to various age groups and genders - like there's anime intended for preteen boys, for teenage girls, for young adults etc. etc.

Isn't there any shoujo-ai romantic comedy out there? xp Anna showed me Air Master, but that isn't quite what I'm looking for (plus... wow... those were some huge boobs eek ). She's told me there are tons of shows with a lesbian couple in them, but they're usually not the focus of the show. Isn't there anything that is about lesbians that's not porn, and not even particularly erotic?

That's a good question. Unfortunately, there's only one I can think of that doesn't actually have sex involved and that's YamiBou. (Though it does have a girl who's in love with her adopted sister masturbating. It was beautifully done in my opinion). Anyways, I would like to see a series out there that focuses on an actual relationship and the trials and tribulations and such.

I'll make that my new goal. 3nodding I'll find something, you watch.

Anyways, and the series Ikki Tousen (non-hentai, and available in English) features two females deeply in love with each other eventually making love to one another about seven or eight episodes in. (Unfortunately, there's a rape scene somewhere earlier within the series).

Sorry if I'm not of much help, but I'll work on finding something for ya! heart

And the only show that I can think of that isn't even remotely erotic is Cardcapter Sakura. XD It's obvious that Tomoyo is in love with Sakura. It's a series meant for the younger audience and it even raised some controversy in America (with the whole girl/girl love thing). But it is cute. =3

Here's a site that does manga translations focused on lesbian relationships. I haven't had the oppurtunity to check it out just yet, but it looks promising. If you get to it before me, let me know how it is! =3

Lililicious.

well maria-sama ga miteru is focused on girl-girl love. although some of it is plutonic and some of it is romantic. there is no sex, no nothing like that. but it is very lovely. both maria-sama ga miteru and ga miteru spring are a lovely series.

as for yami to boushi to hon no tabibito. it is about a girl in love with her adopted sister. there is no hentai but it is based off of a hentai game. there is some nudity but it's in there for flavor only. no sex, no rape at all. it is good and that is the main focus is the girl-girl love. you should watch it. beyond that... there are others out there but it is hard to find, since most anime that we want is still in japan and hasn't been translated by an official place or by fans yet either.

but i continue to look for good shoujo-ai to watch myself.
