It's just something that has been bothering me for a while...
I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia a little over three years ago, right after my best frind killed himself. Is that some wierd coincidence? And is it odd to hear him in my head along side the others?

From what I have read, the onset of schizophrenia can be triggered by traumatic events sometimes. It doesn't mean that the event caused your schizophrenia to develop, just that it became one of the factors influencing the development of it.
Smart Alex would probably know more about this than I do, though.

It doesn't mean that the event caused your schizophrenia to develop, just that it became one of the factors influencing the development of it. Smart Alex would probably know more about this than I do, though. I think it can be triggered by stuff like that. I remember reading it somewhere. It can also be triggered by smoking cannabis. 3nodding They don't teach us that in school - though it wold probably put a few people off! I wouldn't know if it was odd to hear him. But I'm guessing it's not.

I had some problems starting early, but I had my major psychotic break and first hospitalization after a number of stressful events happened all at once in my life. My dad was diagnosed with a terminal stage of cancer, I graduated from University, and a boyfriend that I was going to move across the country to be with broke up with me. That all isn't as bad as losing a friend to suicide, but it was enough to trigger the onset of my inevitable diagnosis of Paranoid Schizophrenia.

There's actually a lot of research going on right now on the subject! It's just those kinds of differences of opinion that makes us need to examine why it triggers psychotic illnesses that much more! There has got to be a reason for it, and perhaps brain damage isn't the reason at all. Only more research will tell.

Throwing someone who is potentially schizophrenic into an altered state of conciousness, where attacks of paranoia and delusional thoughts run rampant (for some people), it seems to me, could easily tip someone over the edge. But then, dehydration, sleep or sensory deprivation, et al. may just do the trick as well. 3nodding

For me I was getting really stressed in school and reading a lot of Kafka. I stopped sleeping and it all went down hill. Then Parinoid Schizophrenia. sweatdrop
