Rebirth of a Herd: Serendipity Herd's History
The cataclysm had been total. Corynth hadn't known a volcano had simmered nearby, hidden within the frozen heights of the mountain range. And when it had erupted... nearly all had been lost.
His herd had been scattered to the four winds. Those that could fly did. Those that couldn't merely ran for their lives. Many of his herd had never found him again. He hoped the new homes they had found were safe and loving.
But a few had found their way back to him. He had welcomed Windsong and Goodheart joyfully. He wasn't sure where his best friend Forsynth had been when this had happened, but he hoped that he too would return safely.
With his tiny herd, he had forged forward. They had travelled many days, seeking a hospitable area to succor them. Finally, nearly a month after that terrible day of fire and terror, he found it.
It was perfect. It did not lay against any mountains, as their last home had. It was on wide, rolling plains that were dotted with ponds and streams. The spot he chose for himself and his herd was in a forest that laid against a large lake. There were grasslands nearby, and the forest for shade and cover. Deep within the forest, there was a secluded glade, encircled by thick thorn bushes. Within it was a tiny stream that sprang from a pile of rocks that marked one end. Before the stream left this glade, it sank back into the earth and ran no more above ground.
The glade was quite large, able to accomodate a good-sized herd comfortably if the need arose. It could only be entered through a dim passage beneath the thickly drooping branches of a willow tree. On either side of the tree, the thorns prevented passage. Overhead they were masked from the air by intertwining branches. Here was their inner-sanctum.

The Herd Corynth is the leader of this small band. He is a good leader, and is concerned above all for the well-being of those under his care. He is a strong and dashing yuma, and is Forsynth's best friend. The two are more like brothers than friends. This lady is the shining light of the herd. Her gentle and sweet nature glow brightly as she holds herself with supreme dignity. Her composure and kindliness have led her inadvertantly to being the lead mare. The younger females look to her for guidance and support, knowing in her they have a trustworthy and wise confidante. Windsong is a very quiet, very reserved mare. She speaks rarely and keeps her eyes downcast. Despite this, however, she has strong opinions and feelings that she keeps to herself. Corynth's kind acceptance of her chosen silence led her to join his herd and feel safe while protected by him and Goodheart. The only yuma she seems to confide in is the gentle grandmotherly gryphon. Who knows what confidences have been shared between the two of them during their quiet morning talks! Reesa came to the herd after it settled into it's current location. She is a sullen and angry little mare, with years of hurt built up. She had been a wanderer, a lone yuma, continually rejected by other herds and forced to fend for herself. Corynth's firm but tolerant manner towards her shocked her after so often being immediately chased away. Her nature has lightened quite a bit since joining the herd, but she still remains a bit of a firecracker. Forsynth has been at Corynth's side since he began this herd some time ago. The two have become bonded like brothers. Though shyer and more timid, Forsynth has been learning from standing in Corynth's shadow and finally became bold enough to win himself a mate. His confidence now knows no bounds, and he no longer feels like a lesser stallion. He is deeply in love with his Lady. Lady is a sweet mare who thinks the worst of herself. Since meeting Forsynth, though, she is daring to believe she is worth love and caring. She and Forsynth are now mates and love each other dearly. She longs to seek out her brother, though, to try and repair her relationship with him. Perhaps someday he will come join their little serendiptuous herd? Meet Zereal, an adopted son of Corynth. He became seperated from his family and could not navigate his way home. Right now he's subdued, feeling homesick. Corynth has taken him under his wing and is treating him like a son. I'm sure soon he will come out of his shell and we shall learn more about him. Huvar's story is very similar to Zereal's. He has come to the herd tired and hungry. His sober request to remain for a time has impressed Corynth, but Goodheart is worried he is growing up too fast.

Recent Events The herd is growing, but Corynth is still watching and waiting for Forsynth' return. His heart tells him his heart-brother will find his way back to them, but he does not know of Lady's coming as well. For the time being, he nurtures his herd and does his best to provide for their various needs.
Currently all yuma are welcome to visit, and any who seek a place to belong are accepted without question into the herd. (PM any questions please. Any and all may post! Please respect any roleplay currently happening in the thread, though rps in different places with different yuma are perfectly fine. But please keep yuma to one rp/location at a time. Thanks!)

Corynth circled his chosen area. The evening was cool and sweet, without the sharp tang of snow that almost always had hung over their last home. Thoughts of their old valley made his heart turn towards his lost brother. Where was Forsynth? Had he given up looking for them?
Deep inside the proud gryph-yuma felt guily. In providing for the members of the herd he had with him, he had been forced to abandon his best friend and brother. It devestated him that Forsynth might not be able to find them in their new and safer home. It had occurred to him that the pegasus may not even know that they were alive, with the total destruction by lava that their home had experienced.
Somehow, though, he had to believe that they were bonded in such a way that they would know if the other had perished. And his own heart told him Forsynth was at least alive. He thought hard of his adopted brotehr, calling him to him. "Come home, Forsynth."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Far distant, Forsynth was traveling with Lady. They were almost to the valley that he had called home. Glancing over at Lady, he nickered encouragingly. It felt good to be loved by her. To know that they loved each other FOR each other. During their travel time they had grown very close, facing several dangers andsurviving them unscathed.
During this long journey via ground travel, he had begun to teach Lady the basics of flight. They would flex their wings together as they walked or trotted along. Each flex would help her wing muscles to grow stronger, he knew. He also had her hold her wings open when the winds gusted fiercely past them, hoping the feel of the wind in her feathers would raise her interest in the real thing. Perhaps someday they would be able to soar together!
At first, it had been terribly embarassing - everything had, really. Traveling with a stallion who she'd just met (and fell in love with) after spilling out every secret she'd tried her entire life to hide, exiting the shell she'd been occupying for the better part of her life... watching Forsynth take off the ground and unable to do the same.
So, here she was, covering more ground than she thought possible with her - Lady blushed despite her best wishes not to, and thanked her parents for the first time that she had been given a black coat - mate beside her.
.. And wriggling muscles she didn't know she had all over the place in her wing. But, Forsynth's logic wasn't wrong; it had become a whole lot easier. Until one or two of them clenched and unclenched in some strange twist of ballet, which no muscles should ever attempt to do, ending in a very smarting cramp.
Like that one.
Lady yowled as her right wing sent a zinging pain through her body, skidding to a halt and hopping everywhere. "OwwwWIE!" She continued in the very unlady-like behavior before it subsided, leaving her with a singing wing and a sheepish grin to Forsynth.
"... Sorry," she giggled.
He had gone exploring away from Sitara and had gone of the path, unable to find his way back he wandered aimlessely around the forest. Now, a few days later, he continued to wander around the forest when he saw a lake. He was very thirsty after not drinking for days, he ran as fast as he could to the lake. After drinking as much as he could hold, he looked up and observed his suroundings, spotting a few figures on the other side of the lake. Thinking that he may be able to stay with them until he had enough strength to walk for another few days. He aproached them slowly, but then had a thought. 'Are theese people friendly? They could be dangerous.' He decided to watch them from the shadows.
Corynth stood speaking quietly with Goodheart. Both were rather large, since they were gryphon-yuma. To a young and uncertain eye, they certainly would look imposing. They were speaking concerning Reesa's most recent encounter with a porcupine. Although the situation was laughable, the mare's volatile temper was nothing to joke about. But their voices were low, and could not be heard from a distance.
However, another young foal was pracing about nearby. He spotted the back half of Huvar sticking out from the bush where he was currently hiding. Knowing he was the only foal in the herd, he was understandably excited to see another his own age. He galloped with all his might, burst through the same bush beside the dark foal, and spun around to fcae him, legs splayed. "HI!" he practically shouted, not minding the sticks and leaves the bush had left in his mane and tail.
"Aah!" Huvar yelled as another foal apeared infront of him and fell out of the bush. "W..what was that for?" he asked and then shook his head. He dived back into the bush ande peekd out, trying to see if the other two rather large creatures had spotted or heard him. "Be quiet." he whispered. "I..i don't want them to see me." he said in a low voice. "Wait...you know them don't you?" he asked and pulled his head back into the bush.
Zereal was quite puzzled as the other colt scuttled back into the bush. "Well, yes... one of those is my new dad." He bobbed his head animatedly and then nosed the bush. "You don't need to hide from them. My dad's a great yuma, and Goodheart is just like her name." His little mind only paused for a tiny fleeting moment about the strangeness of that, and then his thoughts turned back to his new playmate.
"And I AM sorry I scared you. I'm just excited, you see. I'm happy to see another foal here!" He did a little prance in place and tossed his head. "My name is Zereal, what's yours?" Here he stuck his head INTO the bush so he could better see his friend. "There aren't many in my herd, so right now I have hardly anyone to play with!"
Huvar stuck his head out. "So they are friendly? Alright." he nodded to Zereal. "I will play with you, but first...first i would like to speak with your dad." He turned around and trotted to the two yuma. AS he neared them he slowed down abit, a little nervous. "Um...excuse me sir." he said shakily and as politely as he could. His ears twitched as he looked up at him, he was rather huge and Huvar was a little scared. "I was wondering, um may i please stay with your herd for a a few days. I was seperated from my uh 'family'." he said sadly.
