For a certain armour-clad audio, the current silence of the surroundings was far from being an unappreciated thing. For once there were no others about to cause a commotion, nor was a certain self-proclaimed (or, not so self-proclaimed ..) 'brother' of his around to bother him.
Ah, yes ... no trouble looking afoot, and it seemed as if it'd be no problem to just set his weapon down, perhaps remove a few pieces of armour and, in general, be at ease.

How much he hated the sweaty battlefield he could never quite fully explain in words other than "bloody" and "stinking", possibly laced with other more vulgar profanities. And when Hector was bitter, he was more than eager to vocally take it out on others
Which just happened to be unfortunate timing for Hector to have spotted Sain (or rather unfortunate for Sain, not the rather pissed off, sweaty lord).
"Sain!" his voice game out as gruff as usual, "what in the bloody nine hells are you doing WITHOUT your armour or weapons?" He snorted disdainfully. "Keep in mind I am in no ways responsible for any burial costs for you, should you die."

Er, well. His timing seemed to be off, as usual, leading him to yet another (unwelcome) confrontation with a certain blue-haired lordling ... which happened to be a blue-haired lordling that seemed rather .. well .. irate seemed to be the best suitable word for it.
"Lord Hector, I - Well, I ..."
Sain paused, thinking over what he said next in hopes to prevent any possible aggravation of the other .. after all, Hector had seemed far from happy once finding out that there was no sign of his rather close friend.
".. I was just taking a short break, since it seemed as if there was nothing to worry about."
There. That seemed enough to suffice for now.
Or so he thought, even as he scrambled for discarded armour and weapon of choice. sweatdrop

Hector glared back at the other. "You're ALWAYS taking a short break. Hell, you take a short break every moment you're on the battlefield, you helpless oaf!"
He paused, wiping the sweat from his forehead. True, the last insult seemed rather uncalled for, but Sain, he swore, unless the knight was paired up with Kent NEVER worked to his full potential, which was a pity. It would have saved Hector himself a lot of unneccessary effort.
His expression, however, softened slightly. "I understand that everything may seem safe at times, but it helps to always be on your guard. Especially when no one is looking out for your own safety."

His eyes narrowed a little at that, before his head turned and he gave a slight shrug of his shoulders, feigning indifference at the other's words.
Not as if it was anything new, and what the other had said was mentally filed away in his mind .. he'd go over it later, as he normally did.
"Understood, milord."
Simple, and to the point, though to completely divert the conversation to something else entirely ..
"Any sign of Lord Eliwood?"

The other's last sentence was more painful a lance than Sain's (often blunt) weapon would ever be. Hector's tail twitched just slightly in agitation, and he struggled for a moment to get the right words out.
"I'm... sure its nothing." Yet his words seemed slightly hasty and stammered. "Lord Eliword has his own affairs to attend to, and we all know how busy everyone is these days."
And he wondered if what he had previously warned Sain about being on guard was addressed more to the lance knight or himself. His lingering thoughts were spoken out loud. "Eh, in the battlefield, everyone is lonely."

Blinking once, Sain found himself unable to think of how he was to take the sudden shift in the other's attitude, and he shifted a little on his feet.
He might not admit it aloud, but he was a bit taken aback at seeing such a side of the lordling, especially considering how Hector acted all the time in the presence of others .. another part of him didn't doubt the fact that the somewhat younger male wore a mask just as he did.
"Lord Hector .." A slight clearing of his throat, a paw reaching up and running through his hair, "... Well, I'm sure that Lord Eliwood is just fine, and ..."
He trailed off.
Blast it all, he just didn't know what to say to placate the blue-haired lord. ._.

As if sending the awkwardness his random shift in mood had brought, Hector suddenly straightened up, giving a heavy shrug that made each of his armour plates creak stiffly.
"Eli may be fine now, but when I get my paws around him..." he growled threateningly, jokingly, making random strangling gestures. "I swear that red-haired oaf of a lord just disappears to purposely drive me crazy. People these days."
Sain's lack of a proper weapon in his hands still did not escape Hector's notice. "If you're so tired and needing a break you lazy git, why dont you trade your position with someone in camp. Could give you some more time to dawdle without getting your a** impaled."

There was a lapse in conversation as Sain chose not to respond right away and instead he ambled over to where his lance was, leaning over and picking it up. Paw closing firmly about it, he gave his head a little shake, looking up at Hector once more.
"Milord, as much as I would love to do that .." Slight shrug, gesturing with his other paw at the otherwise desolate field, ".. There are no others to switch off with."

Hector scowled, a reddish tinge spreading across his face, remakably clashing with his blue-white fur. "I-I knew that!" He finally spluttered, suddenly just recalling that he had come here in the first place to check on all the available units. "And that is why you should always be vigilant!"
His attempt cover his own mistake was anything but smooth. "And.. if there are no enemies around, at least go do something, like check your surroundings and stuff!"
He growled, more to himself than anyone else. He'll be damned if he let that little slacker undermine his authority!

Oh, yes. He was getting just a tad bit worried at how ... well, it seemed as if his one companion seemed to be losing his cool; at least, even moreso than normal.
The green-armoured audio straightened up, shifting the weapon in his one paw so that the sharpened point was against the ground, the other end leaning a little against his one shoulder. His other arm rose, paw going against his forehead in a vague hint of a salute.
"Right on it, milord!" He chirped, slipping easily back into his own role of being somewhat cheerful and careful. Whistling, arm falling back down even as he shouldered the lance, he started to head off.

Something fluttered against his foot, something very light and brittle. With one low swoop, Hector grabbed the offending parchment from his foot with his paw, staring at it.
"Oi you!" He gestured wildly at Sain before giving a frustrated sigh and jogging towards the lance knight, armour jinging madly. "You forgot your damn map! How are you supposed to locate anything if you dont even know where you a-"
He eyed the map suspiciously.
"Why in the blazes is there a fabulous hole in the middle of this map?" As if to prove his point, he pulled the rather crumpled parchment fully open with both hands, revealing a very neat, charred center.

The tan audio paused at Hector's question, shouldering the lance and spinning about on one foot, eyeing the other with a slight quirk of an eyebrow.
"No offence at all intended, milord, but I have no idea as to what you're talking about." He paused, raising his other paw and tapping it against his chin, "Hmm .. I have no idea as to where that map came from at all, and that's the truth."
He ruffled his bangs up a bit, lips pursing into a faint frown, "Perhaps -"
Whatever he was going to say was cut off as he ducked abruptly down, just narrowly missing behind hit by a unexpected missle.
"What the .." The knight trailed off, blinking and squinting at the arrow now lying facedown in the ground a few mere inches from where he'd been, "The feathering of this looks a lot like one of our men, milord .."
"A-Ah!"
The sudden shout came from the male that seemingly popped out of nowhere, a faint flush visable upon white cheeks as the new audio ducked down, snatching the arrow up.
"Sorry 'bout that, I was afraid you might be the enemy at first .." He trailed off as he caught a better look at the two others and brown eyes widened a little, "L-lord Hector, Sir Sain - ack! I almost got'cha, didn't I, Sir Sain?!"
If possible, the archer looked even more sheepish than before, Good thing I missed, eh?"
Sain merely let out a small sigh, a grin spreading upon his maw.
"Just glad to see you're around, Wil."

Hector starred, flabberghasted at Wil, jaw working to make sounds, more than just a tad furious at how the idiot had mistaken HIS OWN TROOPS for the enemy.
He inhaled deeply, trying very hard not to entirely loose his temper. "Wil, what have I told you about actually LOOKING before you shoot, you blind oaf! For cripes sake, with a team like this, I'm surprised any of us are still alive."
And failing obviously. All he needed now was a pegasus knight to fall on him. Again.
However, troops were limited, and he wasn't going to endanger his own hide around the disastrous duo. Desperate times called for rather desperate measures.
"Sain," he barked, "I now put you in charge of patrolling with Wil around the parameters again, and make sure you scour EVERY corner now! If you get lost, I'm blaming it on the bloody map you seem to have FORGOTTEN even existed. Wil," he paused, putting one hand to his forehead, feeling a mild headache come on, "just... look before you shoot. Assuming that you aren't blind."
Yes, the further away they were from him, the better chances he had of actually surviving.

Wil's eyes just widened a little the moment Hector's tirade began, and near to the end of ht eit, he found himself almost inching behind Sain .. perhaps the other would prove to be a viable shield.
"A-Aye, milord." He managed to respond, choosing to wisely keep from adding on:
.. I don't even know what this map is that he speaks of. sweatdrop
".. Aye, milord ..."
His acknowledgement was a mere echo of Wil's, and absently the knight reached backa paw, patting his comrade's arm.
"C'mon, Wil, let's get started."
Exchanging looks, the two made sure their weapons were, indeed, with them and secured before bading leave of the blue-haired lordling and starting off.
