How do you value those OLD donation items you prolly have, in a sense if you like Gaia enough to have some emtional attachment of any to them?
+ Only things of profit. I'll happily use it when I want, but if there's a price spike, then sell, sell, sell!
or
+ I can't sell this thing! It took me forever to get it! (If you quested for it) I was smart enough to keep mine! (If you're that much an oldbie) There's much too much value to it, both in patience worth, and monetary worth.
or recently, I've come to think maybe...
+ Damn complaining n00bs. This thing is the one status symbol seperating me from the animals and n00bs
I mean, the angelic scarf is the only thing I own that's of expensive value. Somedays, I think to myself, "I'll sell it, and go on a shopping spree!" But damn, there's the nag in the back of my head of how it took me forever to quest for, and howI got it at a relatively cheap 65k.
So, what stance do you take on your valuable items, and if you want, maybe give me a general direction of how I should apredict the fate of my scarf?

I donated my own money for these donation items. I would never sell them simply to have spending money. That, and I'm glad I kept these items. I joined back in October 2003... I have an emotional attachment to ALL of my items, not just donation items. Sure I have favorites, but the fact that I paid for these items both for the letters and to help Gaia just make them that much more precious. :]

The scarf is part of your visual identity. To sell it would be to sell a part of you soul.
*cough*
The value people have put on items like the devil tail and mini wings scares me. To me, they're ... parts of me. I could live without the ones I don't wear much, the only part that would hurt is the hoarding instinct that says "collect and keep," but the ones that I do wear frequently, the ones I wouldn't ever be able to replace, those are the ones that it might break me to lose.
And if I did survive losing them, I'd be much diminished. I really don't want that to happen, I don't want to turn bitter and cynical, there's too many Gaians out there that have that attitude.
I don't know about the status symbol aspect of old items. There are items I want and won't get, but I've lived without them this long, and have done fairly well for myself, so I'm not going to angst over the things I don't have. Do I glance a bit enviously at users who have those items? Yeah, I'm only human.
But an a*****e is an a*****e, halo or no. In fact, haloed assholes are worse, because they've got that whole "Assholier than thou" thing going for them, and legions of fanatical minions who have been brainwashed by the shinyness.
...
Given my fascination with shiny things, I'm somewhat startled that I haven't joined one of those legions yet. And yes, I do deserve to be hurt for that pun. mrgreen

Yeah... forgot to mention that.
I have no monetary value on my loved donation items, especially those that I worked for or paid for. They're just a part of me. I would be extremely upset if someone was maniacal enough to scam them from me or hack them from me... T.T;
Eh... the status thingie. I don't like the oldbies of Gaia who think they are so elite from everyone else. It just really... ruins my day. neutral I mean, you can't judge a person's maturity by their age; what makes you think you can judge a Gaian by how long they've been on Gaia?
I don't think of myself as any more important than any other users from 2005. I'm just lucky that people don't question my opinions and actions and intelligence when they find out I'm a 2003er. xD

My only real item of value I have is my chain wallet, which I've kept since it came out. I've bought and sold a number of other items, I used to have an OMG.
But I figure, if it doesn't look good on me, it's got to go. If I quested for something, and it took me forever, I want to see a profit turn on it. But really, I almost prefer most store items to donations. The only one I would even quest for at this point would be a Devil Tail, just so it would go with a few of my outfits. Or maybe the Human Labcoat and 03' Jack items.
I figure if I want money, my wallet will be gone. I got it because I wear one in real life, and it goes with most of my outfits well. But in the end, it's just a few pixels here and there, and no matter what game (I consider customizing my avatar and earning gold something of a game) I play I won't be able to get EVERYTHING I want, so why fret?

My only proof that I've been on Gaia for as long as I have is the join date in my profile.
I didn't give a hang about Gaia donation items until the middle of '04, and even then I didn't care about the older donation items. The status never really seeped in for a long time. When I first joined this guild I was decked out in the same commons I bought within the first few months of joining Gaia, while everyone else seemed to have devil's tails and stufflikethat.
Only around my anniversary did I start to turn into a sentimental old coot and realised that it would be ABSOLUTELY AWESOME to have a donation item from the month that I joined. That's when I started my cycle of quests to get the OMG.
But I really like the newer donation items. They mean more to me.
I don't spend much gold on other things since I have most of the clothing I like, and it gets down to the 22nd or the 23rd and I go ahead and buy those letters at the end of the month because, honestly, the fun and anticipation over what those things could be outweighs my need for an older item or the money if I donate out of my own pocket. Even if I had an ancient item it wouldn't be much more than a status symbol, which is stupid anyway. I'd rather be respected for what I post than the quality of my items. Getting the newer items and waiting for them and talking about them makes me feel like more of a community member than having an 03 donation item.
Yay there's my happy rant about the donation items.

I hope they introduce a way to get them, because I'm awfully sick of the way they're coveted.
Mostly, not all that attached. I won't be selling half my stuff, though.

The oldest donation items I have are only my OMG and AFK. I might end up selling the OMG sometime; I don't like it. I'll never sell my AFK because a friend gave it to me months ago when they left Gaia. I miss them. :[

To me, my donation items are a collection. I'd never sell any of them even if I may dislike some and would never really wear them. I also don't consider them a status thing because, well, items don't make a person; a conversation and personality do. I could be without all my nifty items but I'd be the same ol' Sunny.
'Course, part of me still sighs when I think of the few items I missed out on because I was a newb at the time. I could have gotten DJs, Chickies, Panda, Grizzly, and maybe the Rose withough too much problem. My first donation item was the Portable Headphones, bought for 2.7k at the time, and the only item I ever really quested for was Bunny Slippers. Ah, good times. I really miss questing.

I can honestly say old donations mean s**t cuz I've given them all away lol Angelic/NM Scarves? Given away a couple dozen for that Christmas. So did Kahz. Ports? Gave those away when they were worth well over a few million. Minis? Gave so many of those up. Sash. Buhbye.
The only important items are the same ones I say every time. My g-pin, my black gloves, ali's soul, and my v-day chocolates.

My oldest/most expensive item would be the mini-nitemare wings. First item I ever actually donated money for, so they've got that mode of sentimentality going for them. Plus, I thought they looked cool with the way my avatar was dressed back then.
I'm questing for an Angelic Halo, not because it's rare, but because I think it looks cool. I could care less that it was the first donation item, and it's the BESTEST ITEM EVAR(tm).

dtail, omg, afk, nm scarf, angelic scarf, chain wallet, pneguins.
All gotten with someone else's help. So I'll never use any of them to go after bunnies or minis or whatever other older item I really want. The people who gave them to me, or gave up something to help me get them mean more than the pixels themselves, which is why I keep them.

Wish I hadn't sold my '03 items, but I don't really care all that much about the donation items. I just like to have everything. xd
