Here is a place to comment, kindly and constructively, for those who are working on their RPing skills.

Thank you very much!

Hello all you RPers! When I was new to RPing this is some advice given to me, and some things I figured out....

1.) Read the Gaia Guidelines for RPing / TOS...seriously you can break them and not even know. You would be surprised. If you have any free time ...like now, when your sitting at your computer browsing through forums... you should read them.

2.) Follow the Guild Guidelines, and any additional guidelines given by the creator of the thread. If their rules conflict with that of Gaia, or of the guild, tell a crew member. Crew members are listed at the bottom of the Guild Homepage. I myself am usually on because I have no life.

3.) NEVER EVER USE ASTERISKS! Asterisks are these things: ****. They annoy other, more-experienced RPers. Also, never use bright or large fonts.

4.)Make sure to put thoughts in italics, or mention that something in quotation marks is thought.

5.)Make sure to only put speech or thought in quotation marks. If you need to put something in quotation marks, but your character isn't saying it, it's better to use these: 'Dr.Elf rules!'. They are ussually on the same key as the quotation marks.

6.)When writing, try not to use to many abbreviations, or "l33t speak/.txt. talk". Or else your post may end up looking like this: "HEy GuYz WaZZuP?!?11?!?!??eleven!1!!111!!!!" without you even knowing it. Also, don't start sentences with "and" or "because". It is grammatically incorrect, accept in some rare cases, so...it's better just not to do it!

7.) Proofread your posts...it shouldn't be too boring to do that, because you wrote it! If it is boring, you might want to consider making it more interesting. Make sure the spelling is correct. If it doesn't look right...check it! I have a "Hand-held Spelling Checker" on my desk, and a list of commonly mis-spelled words.

7.5.)Revise your post, make them fancy. Make them want the reader to read more. Try not to use too many confusing words though.

8.) Be careful about how you use ellipses. Ellipses are these little things: "...". It gets annoying and makes the post hard to read if you use to many of them. The proper way to end a sentence with an ellipse is this: "....". In other words, an ellipse (which consists on only 3 periods, thank you) and a period, making four dots. Several times you can replace ellipses with commas.

9.)Try to make the plot move along in your posts. Make it a paragraph or two, so you don't make it hard for the plot to continue. In other words, make your part of the post like a story. (Which Margem has stresses ALOT! wink )

10.) Have fun! If you're not enjoying it, people can tell! Enjoy writing and being creative! Have fun with your characters. You should never make your characters too boring for yourself! I know that I would definitely want to meet my characters! Make your characters the same way for you!

I hope I have helped you a little! Good Luck, Much Love, and... Happy RPing!
