Hey, y'all are all military fanatics, so I have a question for ya.
How do y'all feel about the proposed Flag Amendment that's been hanging over the head of America for who knows how long? One one side are the people who say we should protect the flag against desecration by passing the amendment while others argue that such an amendment would undermine the 1st Amendment right to free speech and thus the flag itself. So, what's y'all's opinion?

There are many complicated and different reasons why people burn the flag. I dont think its ever necessary to run around with a burning flag, and you piss off a lot of people. If I ever saw a protester doing in public I'd just belt them across the face. But when I see people doing in the middle east after the military could have done something bad, I kind of sympathize with them, I mean alien forces are going in there and tearing up their cities, making chaos, but also you can see at the end of a victory the people realize they are liberated, and many of them will wave the flags instead of march over them. So it pretty much depends on the curcumstances for me.

"It's the soldier, not the reporter who has given us Freedom of the Press. It's the soldier, not the poet, who has given us Freedom of Speech. It's the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate. It's the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the Right to a Fair Trial. It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves under the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who gives the protestor the right to burn the flag." ~Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC I vote no to that amendment

As you may have guessed by my somewhat bais presentation of the topic, I am against the amendment. Now, I'm not one who would go out and burn a flag and I think people in this country who do are just major jerkwads, but I do belive that it is their right to get out there and make jeks of themselves if thats what they want to do.
Well, that's my two cents.

hmm... freedom of speech... speech=word of mouth...
flag burning is not by mouth, unless you cound flame-eating-flag-burners.
hell, if they dont like the direction our country is taking (its been the global police since the Spanish-American war, so its not really that much of a direction change), they can just get the hell out.

I think we should pass the amendment if it protects the flag from being mistreated and disrespected. If you're going to be a citizen in this country, then by all means exercise your freedoms. However, you should also be able to show proper respect for our flag as well, since it represents the very freedoms this country grants you. If you disrespect Old Glory, you are not only disrespecting your fellow Americans and the country as a whole, but you are even disrespecting yourself...

I definetly still would like to hear other peoples opinions. I did a project on this subject for my english class, and we discussed it, but when you have to see someone every day, you don't want to openy oppose their opinion, so I started this so people could give their opinions without ever having to face the people who might disagree...I sorta rambled, but I think I got my point accross
