This is where one would go to get a few drinks… or drunk off their bar stool. It’s frequently visited by Shinigami. This is probably because of its easy to find location and the lack of distance between it and the portal gate.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 07, 2007 1:30 am

“Sir, I think you’ve had enough.” The bartender said firmly, staring the drunkard straight in the eye. The man lifted his empty glass as he pointed at the defiant bartender, a drunkenly violent gleam in his eye.

“Dun ya be tellin’ me what I cun handle! I wanna anoth’r drink! It’s a you damn job ta git me one!”

The bartender was not phased. If anything, he was merely growing impatient.

“Sir, you’ve had enough. I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”

The man slammed his glass down with enough force that the sound made some in the bar jump. He stood from his stool, looking rather intent on causing a heavy fistful of trouble.

“Ya can’ make me leave! Now git me anoth’r drink or I’ll git it myself!”

Sanyu came up beside the man as if he wasn’t there. She set the tray of empty glasses down on the counter and smiled up at the bartender.

“Could ya take these back to the kitchen for me? If ya do, I’ll kindly see this man out the door for ya.” She said with enough energy to make the drunken man sick. The bartender smiled back and lifted the tray, heading out to kitchen.

The man spun to Sanyu, grabbing her by her fishnet collar.

“What’dya mean see me to ta door? I ain’t leavin’!”

Sanyu frowned. “You’re going to rip my shirt.” She scolded simply.

“I’m gunna do more than that ta ya.” He threatened, throwing his other hand into a punch aimed for the girl’s cheek.

Sanyu’s movement was so fluid and simple, that it seemed she did nothing more than step to the side. What she did do, however, was different. Sanyu angled her body just slightly, so that the force of the punch missed it’s target. As she had thought, the drunkard had made the mistake of throwing all of his strength into the punch. This meant that he stumbled at the miss. Perfect timing. Sanyu brought the arm closest to him up, pushing hard on his back, right in between the shoulder blades. She used her other hand to twist his wrist away from the collar of her shirt.

The man hit the ground, with his arm still trapped in Sanyu’s grasp. She stepped firmly on his back and twisted the arm until he cursed in pain. She was carefully not to break anything… yet.

“Now would be a good time for ya to leave, understand?” She said triumphantly. She pressed harder into his back with her heavy army boots… to emphasize her point.

“b***h! I’m gunna kick yar a**!”

“Don’t make me break ya arm, ya stupid drunk. Just walk with me, got it?”

She lifted her foot so she bring his arm up into the air without dislocating it. The man tried to close the distance by rising to his knees. She held the arm in place with one of hers, reaching down with the other to grab the back of his shirt. She heaved him into the air and twisted his arm again so that it pressed against his own back. She wrapped her free arm around his neck and squeezed. When he was completely uncomfortable and found it very difficult to move, Sanyu escorted the defeated man out the door. He was literally kicked out as she released him at the door frame and delivered a heavy boot to his upper back. His was easily thrown off what little balance he had left.

“Come back in, sir, and I’ll leave ya here unconscious next time.”

When she turned around, everyone who wasn’t a regular was staring. Only the regulars and the perverts knew that the sexy waitress packed such a heavy punch. She didn’t mind the eyes, merely checked the collar of her shirt.

“Damn it all, he ripped my fishnet.”

She looked up at the customers again, then back to the bartender.

“Order up, table five.” The bartender said simply and Sanyu went to retrieve said tray of food.

She delivered it with a smile. “Enjoy ya food.” She said happily, making the people at the table blink a bit nervously.

Sanyu returned to the bar, leaning over it with her eyes set on the bartender himself.

“Ya replacing my shirt.” She said simply. He smiled at her simply.

“As always, Sanyu.”

A regular in the corner of the bar simply smiled and shook his head.

As always.

((OOC: Realizes final sentences give completely unintentional good way to bring in new character...))

As the smile faded into a simple look of 'Mind your own business', the regular, one Mirohoshi Yasuke (though, oddly enough, neither the waitress nor the bartender knew it), surveyed the surrounding occupants. Most of them watched the waitress with an odd combination of shock, fear, and lust, a fact Mirohoshi found amusing. You could tell the other regulars, because not only did they not watch the waitress with this odd combination, they simply did not watch her at all, and continued eating, drinking, and chatting.

After the survey, Mirohoshi turned back to the laptop he'd been working on. It was one of the reasons he loved this bar. Close to home, a good place to observe how things were going, and a WiFi spot, all rolled into one. While he did most of his work from home, he generally came down to the bar to work at least twice a week. He liked the change of scenery.

Mirohoshi sat and typed even after Sanyu left. Or rather, that was his plan. His plan was abruptly interrupted when he felt the reiatsu spike, sensed the desperation within the power he felt. He was up and out the door in no time, tossing money on the bar as he ran past, shoving his laptop into his custom-designed backpack.

He wasted no time in getting to where he had felt the spike, and slid to a spot as he noticed the human on the ground. Can that be who I think it is? It seemed to strange, too coincidental, but as he grew closer, he knew it was. Sanyu? I've never sensed anything this far out of the ordinary from her.....What the hell happened?

For now, he did the best thing he could come up with - called an ambulance. When they got there, he gave them her name and his number, though he warned them he really didn't know what happened, and that was that. When he saw her next, he figured he might just have to ask what the hell was going on.....

Sanyu pushed her way through the backdoor to find herself greeted by the dim light of the bar. She finished fixing her hair back into it’s usual ponytail just as she broke out from the back and into the actual bar section of the building. The bartender looked up at her from the bar with a frown.

“You’re late. You’re never late.”

Sanyu shrugged like it was nothing. “Sorry. It took forever to fill out the paperwork at the hospital.”

“Hospital? What did you do?!”

It was a comical response, really. It wasn’t ‘are you okay?’. No. It was ‘what did you do?!’.

“Nothing!” Sanyu objected immediately. “And I’m fine, thank ya.”

“Fine? Are you sure?”

“Yeah I’m sure! I didn’t ask to be put in the hospital. I would’ve been fine. So I left. After they made me sign mountains of paperwork. Did I miss anything?”

The bartender gave her a suspicious look. “If you start feeling bad at all, you’re going home. Got that Sanyu? If you were in the hospital, it must’ve been bad.”

“Can’t afford to go home.” Sanyu said, waving her hand dismissively. “So I’ll be fine.”

However… it wasn’t but 30 minutes into her shift before something went wrong.

The tray… isn’t supposed to feel this heavy…

The tray of glasses wavered in her hand, but she managed to hide her problems very well. She couldn’t afford getting sent home. She couldn’t be sick. She just couldn’t.

But then her wrist began to twitch, the glasses actually clanking this time with the movement of the tray. Just as the people at the nearby table looked up, her whole arm began to spasm.

The tray hit the ground with blinding speed, the glasses shattering. Glass and the stench of alcohol sprayed across the ground, forcing the people at the table to lift their feet from the floor to keep from getting soaked or cut.

A terrible pain shot up Sanyu’s arm, making her cringe. The spasm ranged from her fingertips all the way up to her elbow. The pain shot even further than that, going all the way up to her neck and rolling over into her scapula. She clutched the arm to her chest as it jerked in protest. What was going on? Her arms had never done this before! It felt almost like her arm wasn’t even hers anymore. Like it was rejecting her. She clutched her teeth together against the pain, trying to wish away the spasm. She had to clean up the mess and get back to work… She had to…

“Sanyu?”

“I’m fine! Just give me a second.”

“Sanyu, you should go back to the hospital.”

“I said I’m fine!”

“Then go home, Sanyu. Get some rest. And if this happens again, see the doctor!”

“I’m fine!”

“Sanyu, go home!”

Sanyu sighed. Her arm was still twitching, but the pain was fading. Or maybe that was her body kicking in. Either way, she was getting used to it.

“At least let me clean up my own mess.” She muttered, though she was still clutching her arm to her chest like it had broken.

“Don’t worry about it, Sanyu. I’ve got it. Just go home. And don’t push yourself, okay? You’ll only make… whatever it is… worse.”

Sanyu frowned, but what could she do? If her arm was going to keep doing this… she couldn’t waitress OR be the bar’s bouncer. She just didn’t want to be out of a job. Her teeth clenched again, she headed to the back of the bar to clock out.

The regular was once again tucked into the corner, seemingly relaxed and partially asleep, leaning back in his chair, his laptop oddly out of sight. When Sanyu entered, his chin was resting on his chest, but he lifted his head and leaned forward on the table as she walked by. His head shook slightly as he heard her tell the bartender that she'd done nothing.

Now, now, Sanyu. It's really not good to lie, especially to such a nice guy as the bartender.

Mirohoshi had actually been mildly worried when Sanyu hadn't shown up for her shift on time. All the regulars knew what she was like, usually early, never missing a shift. They all figured that if she missed a shift, it was either the end of the world or somebody had died. Well, that was what most of them figured. Mirohoshi always figured she wasn't missing work unless it was the end of the world. Something as ordinary as someone dieing just wasn't keeping her away from her job.

His chin slipped back to his chest after her exchange with the bartender, but his eyes stayed up, following her movements with a sort of intrigued curiosity. There was none of the lust in those eyes that appeared in the eyes of others who watched her. Mirohoshi, at least right now, was simply curious, trying to understand the enigma that was Sanyu.

He didn't have to look up at the sound of the glasses clanking against one another. He was already watching her, having followed her movements since she walked in the door. He merely watched the entire exchange with calm, bored eyes, never moving, never appearing as though he actually cared. As she disappeared into the back, he stood, dropping the money on the counter as usual, including the tip the bartender knew was for Sanyu, and walked out the front door.

He sidestepped to the right twice, then leaned against the outer wall of the bar and waited. As Sanyu stepped out of the bar and walked past him, he spoke, just loud enough for her to hear him.

"So, exactly did you do yesterday that had me calling you an ambulance?"

He was already prepared to move if necessary.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 30, 2007 11:27 am

Sanyu turned out of reflex, though not startled in the slightest. “I didn’t DO anything!” She insisted, before any of it actually sunk it. With the realization of what he said came the punch aimed at his face. A pretty straightforward punch, but a powerful one nonetheless.

“And what the Hell makes ya think ya have the right to be sending ME to a hospital!? Do ya know how much trouble ya caused me!?”

Her face had very quickly turned red as she got upset. The nerve! He was even a regular at the bar! He should KNOW BETTER! An ambulance!? Did he know how EXPENSIVE a ride in those were? As if it wasn’t bad enough, he couldn’t have just taken her there himself. No, he had to call the most expensive form of transportation possible, didn’t he?

And then for him to be out here, waiting for her? What was he, a stalker or something? Didn’t he think that maybe it wasn’t his BUSINESS what happened? That maybe he shouldn’t interfere at all? Not like he’d understand what happened if she told him. No, she learned very well that other people didn’t like her stories half as much as she’d hoped. No tales of monsters eating souls and voices in your head. Talk like that got you into a very clean soft padded room and a free jacket. Like she’d tell anyone what happened! She had those pills once already. She wasn’t prepared to start taking them again.

Except said punch never managed to reach said face. Calmly, with no wasted effort, no more movement than necessary, in a very fluid, practiced motion, Mirohoshi brought his left hand up, curling his fingers around her much smaller fist as it jarred his palm. He held her hand just like that, standing up straight, peeling himself off of the wall.

"Now, I'm sorry if I'm going to have to call you a liar on this one, but I am a little smarter than that, Sanyu. You most certainly did something."

He brought her hand down with his, not relinquishing his grip on her fist. "I do indeed have a general idea of the amount of trouble I caused you. I'm in the hospital often enough that most of the staff knows me by name. Although, admittedly, I'm more often there to fix things than I am to be treated."

The voice was calm, quiet, a deep bass, emotion kept checked before it left his mouth. "And if you're worried about the cost, I'll pay for it. It's not like I could've brought you myself. I've never bothered myself to purchase a vehicle. And I believe anyone has the right to send someone who has passed out for no apparent reason to a hospital. You should be grateful I didn't leave you for some lecherous pervert who may've dragged your unconscious body off to some back alley somewhere."

Finally, he let go of her hand, his eyes boring into hers. "Now, I'm going to ask you this one more time. What exactly did you do yesterday? And don't lie to me again. I felt that energy."
PostPosted: Tue Jan 30, 2007 3:35 pm

Sanyu jerked her hand back as soon as it was released, taking a step back as well. She seemed to get angrier with his last sentence. Or perhaps it wasn’t really anger. Her eyes focused heavily on his face for a good long moment, her lips pressed firmly into a frown.

“Energy? What the Hell is that supposed to mean?”

She slid her feet back so that they were shoulder width apart, but straight across from each other so that she stood straight up.

“Look, I don’t even understand what ya talking about.”

She pivoted around on her heels as if to leave.

“So keep ya nose out of my business, okay?”

A self-confident smirk eased it's way onto Mirohoshi's face as she turned, a slight chuckle heard coming from his throat. He'd at first wondered why she'd lie to him, when he made it quite clear something happened, but now he had an idea. It might not be an accurate idea, but he had one.

"I suppose you wouldn't know what I meant by energy, would you? Not with the desperation that was released with. That's why it spiked the way it did, wasn't it? You can't control it. It just happens, or maybe it just happened for the first time."

He took a step closer, readying to grab her should she try to run, quite set on finishing the conversation. He figured that maybe she'd told people what she saw when she was younger, figured problems had arisen from such.

"Is it the souls that bother you? Or the tall, dark, and uglies with giant holes in their stomachs, with plans on eating said souls, and us?"

He was no longer ready just to move. He was ready for an all-out fight. He didn't think she was going to take that last part well, whether he was right about it or wrong.
PostPosted: Tue Jan 30, 2007 9:12 pm

“Neither.” Sanyu mumbled. “It’s the people. The people bother me the most.”

She took a step back, since he just kept getting closer. At first, she seemed like she was also ready to fight…

Then she suddenly relaxed, shoving her hands into her pockets.

“So ya… see them, too?” It was obvious that she hadn’t talked about it in a while. At least, not with good results. Her voice never was so quite before. It was almost as if she was afraid of being overheard. She looked off to the side and sighed.

“Look, I don’t know what happened, okay? What does it matter to ya anyhow?”

She looked back up at him, still frowning, but not like the pissed off frown she had before.

Mirohoshi stepped back to give her room and to try and hide his surprise, dropping into a more relaxed pose. His face didn't show it, but he was very confused at the moment. Sanyu absolutely, positively HAD to be breaking a rule somewhere. Here he was, expecting to get swung at again, and she just went all human on him. He recovered from that initial shock relatively quickly.

The people....Man, wasn't expecting that for an answer....

"Yeah, you could say that I see them. I do my best to get rid of the monsters too."

He stopped for a second, thinking of how to respond to her last question. It was really a strange question to answer. Finally, he came up with something that might make at least a little sense. "Because I want to know how many others there are like me...."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 31, 2007 5:17 am

“Like you…” She shrugged her shoulder, then checked her watch. Eh, she had a few hours. She was trying to get another job at a local Martial Arts studio, teaching. So, she needed to be there for class later.

She really hoped her arm was okay. If she had torn it up, she couldn’t do anything anymore. No waitressing, bouncing, teaching… Nothing. It had stopped it’s spasms before she had left, but it was still sore. She rubbed at it without thinking much on it.

“Walk with me.” She muttered, more like an invitation than a command as she began to walk away.

Mirohoshi did the only thing that made sense. He followed, nearly reaching to massage her arm when she started rubbing it before stopping himself. It probably wouldn't look good if he tried that already, even if it was just to help. Too long steps had him walking next to her instead of behind her, and he glanced in her direction.

"So, just how long have you known they were there?"
PostPosted: Thu Feb 01, 2007 4:46 pm

Sanyu gave him a side glance, rather than moving her whole head to turn to him. For a moment, she was silent. Then her eyes went back to staring out in front of her.

“All my life.” She muttered with a shrug. She was still being rather quiet about it. “You?”

Her eyes shifted back to him momentarily, but didn’t stay there long. She didn’t need to really watch where she was going, though. Her feet were on autopilot. Well, as long as they didn’t start to spasm like her arm. It made her angry just to think about it. How? How could she just tear up her body like that and not even know what she did? It better NOT be permanent. And it better NOT spread.

Though what really sucked was… if it did stay like this… she had no one else to blame. So, she really couldn’t say that she was going to find and kill the person who did this to her. She had no one to vent on. It was her own fault. That was the worst.

Mirohoshi had to think about that for a while. As long as it had been, it almost felt like his whole life, but he knew it wasn't. Now he had to wonder....When had he first seen that little boy?

-----A Few Years Back-------

It was a bright, sunny day, the perfect day for playing outside, and Mirohoshi was no different from the other kids, frolicking about in the sprinkler system of the local park. But then he looked up, his eyes looking past the rainbow created by the water to a young boy playing by himself. As he watched, the boy's ball bounced onto the road as a car was coming. And, of course, the boy ran after it.

It was the next part that surprised Mirohoshi. The car went THROUGH the child. No signs of injury, no screams, no squealing brakes, no nothing. He immediately ran home and to his room, hiding under the covers and crying himself to sleep. But from then on, they would always be there, and he couldn't ignore them forever.

-----Back to the Present-----

Mirohoshi blinked back to the present, watching Sanyu's movements with a renewed, and no quite innocent interest. "I guess since I was 12 or 13...Couldn't do anything about it then, and the uglies didn't have an interest in me yet...But I got stronger, and eventually, I apparently started to look like a meal."
