Hi all. I know at least a few people in this guild are U.S. Marines. I'm thinking about joining the Corps when I get older. So I was just wondering, what's the training for marines like. I know it's extremely difficult, but what are some of the drills that you do? Be specific if you could. Thanks.

I was in Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, I graduated January 5. its 13 weeks long, and its hard... unlike other branches the drill instructers(not drill sergeants NEVER CALL THEM THAT!!) will yell loudly, and in first phase scare the s**t out of you. Drill?? well you will spend hours doing close order drill, thats mostly first phase all you do is dril, pt, drill, classroom, drill and PT. Second phase you will lear to shott the M16 from the 200, 300, and 500 yardline. during the second phase you will have something called feild week, where you will hike up to the upper shelf, spend the whole week sleeping outside, and doing battle formations ambushes and asaults-doint think too much into it the s**t you do isnt near as cool as the real infantry deal( thats me i am 0311 rilfemen) when i was campin out there it was cold i was there from november-december, i froze, and even got frostbite on my right hand... my advice go during a wamer time...like spring. after feild week you will do the crucible, 3 days long 52 miles, and abunch of obstacles you and your squad will have to do, teamwork is the key to accomplish each obstacle, at the very end you will do a 10 mile hike with a 60-70 LBs pack halkfway through you go up a hill called the reaper, its huge and steep and LONG, you will hike up the first hil for abut 10 minutes. your legs will hurt your lungs will burn and you want to die right there, but when your done you feel unbeatable. after that is the warriors breakfast... dont eat too much or else you'll puke... thenits time for 3rd phase, all it is, more drill, pt, drill, drill, pt, classroom, and drill...then graduation and your a marine. some advice, be loud... blow your voice out the second day there. get used to speaking in the thirdperson, get used to having no freedom. dont b***h about the things you gotta do, try and motivate each other. dont move when on line, and always give 110%. the drill instuctors will put their hands on you, they wont like deck you in the face but i was slapped in the face punched in the guy, kicked in the chest, thrown, and one time got choked out with a pillow case... lol i loved my company...hope for charlie company they are the toughest but they make the best marines.... hope this helped. I'm also another Marine and I went to Parris Island for boot camp (way back in 1999). Boot camp is hard work and you definitely have to work your a** off in it. The biggest thing that will probably make boot camp go smoothly for you is listening to your DI's and do what they tell you. Never ever question what they tell you to do. Becoming a Marine takes a lot of heart and determination no matter what.
Good luck.

Semper Fi (That kinda reminds me of Kyo, he'll hike around the ranch for hours going about 10 miles carring his Assualt Rifle and Side arm along with his bag wich contains medical supplies, ammunition, Rations, and other equipment he can pack into there like lighters and matches. He goes outl like he's preparing to ambush some Iraq Terrorist group... he carries around 60 Lbs, but he does it with only breaking a sweat... I can't do that none the less even walk a hundred yards. But can you join the USAF, USMC, or Navy with one eye?

I'm joining the Marine Corps, I'll be enlisted as an Officer.
Training and bootcamp is the hardest thing you're ever going to have to do in your life.
Expecially Parris Island.
Right now I'm in JROTC, I miss commanding my squads. Dx

i think i will get thru boot camp. the only problem is that i refused to go to the medic 3 times @ devilpups when the DI told me... the medic pulled me out and i was doomed. they scent me home over shin splint.
ut i think if i train myself over my three/ two years i will not have that issue.
how bad do they yell at you?

Silvrtide I heard about something they call the "gas chamber". If I may ask, what the hell is that? Its exactly what it sounds like. It's to train you with gas masks, how to cope without gas masks, what gas does to you, ect.
