A Reluctant Killer

The night air was chilly, unusually cold for this time of year. The moon shone brightly above, almost full. It was the only source of light, for the village that had one proudly stood in the middle of the forest was no longer there, in a sense.

A day earlier, it had been still vibrant, full of life and energy. It was a common resting site for weary travelers, halfway up the mountain. But now it was cold and lifeless, a victim of a mass murder.

Blood lay everywhere, bodies littering the area. Doors swung off their hinges, windows were smashed, and the whole village was filled with frozen screams. The only person in the village that remained alive was a teenage boy, lying in the street with the others.

Dried blood was smudged across one cheek, and his white hair hid one eye from view, also hiding the scar from his temple to his scar. There were two identical rips in the back of his shirt, and the skin underneath bore two scars exactly like the rips. He held a bloodied sword in one limp hand, his breathing steady and even. There was no apparent damage on him, apart from the scars on his back.

Bana kicked over a rock as walked through the village "ahhh everyones dead. ohwell" Bana looked over all the bodies and the buildings not fazed a bit by the site of everyone dead

Crows and other scavengers began to descend to feast on the dead. Niko stirred, then yelped as one of the fowl birds landed on him. The bird took off with a loud caw as Niko sat up, rubbing his ears from the noise. Opening his eyes, he froze when he saw around him. "Oh no... Not again..." He sheathed his sword with shaking hands.

Bana walked about the place then spotted crows then happily ran to where they were spotting a guy "huh? hellosy Mr." Bana said smiling toward him and waving

Niko scrambled into a crouching position when he saw someone approaching, his eyes wide. "...Who are you?" He asked cautiously.

Bana walked toward him but stopped before was to close so could avoid attack if he chose and leaned forward smiling "I'm Bana. who are you mister?"

She was just a young child. But even so, Niko was nervous. It was amazing how he felt so inferior to everyone, even this young one. "... I'm Niko," He said quietly, standing shakily.

bana stood up straight looking at Niko then thought for a second "hmmmm Mister Niko then" bana looked around at the crows and quickly ran after one laughing as it flys away from her

Watching her chase the crows, he couldn't help it; a shaky smile quivered upon his lips. The joys of being young. But his half-smile vanished as he looked around at the bodies. He was still very tired, so the blood didn't envoke the transformation, but if he was still here when he recovered, then he'd... And, this girl... Shaking his head slightly, he starting walking towards the outskirts of the village. He had to leave.

Bluen yawned as stretched out in the tree she was sleeping in a little ways from the village then let out a startled cry as fell out of the tree hitting the ground with a thud "ouch..." she looked up at the trees above anoyed then tilted head looking at the place she fell from "maybe I should start sleeping on the ground" bluen mummbled to herself as layed there

Walking to the edge of the village, his keen eyes picked up on another person a bit further out, falling out of a tree. He paused, wondering what to do. He decided to give her a wide berth, and started out of the village.

"huh?" Bana noticed that Niko was leaving and ran after him "where you going Mr. Niko?" Bana asked following Niko keeping up with him with tail wagging and smiling

Niko looked back at the young girl. "I have to leave here... I'm sorry..." He said quietly. He kept walking, his eyes hidden behind his hair.

Bana still followed him "why sorry? not many people like dead places" Bana looked at him then smiled and ran infront of him and looked at him "I'll come with you that way you wont be lonley!" Bana declared trying to cheer him up

Niko looked down at her, surprised. If she came with him, she'd be in danger. "Where's your family?" He asked. "Or... Were they all killed in the village?"
